I would have slowed down. It is just the cop's front end was litereally a few inches away from mine.

Ooh yikes, let's not get too personal here.

Only times I've seen the Mass Pike empty (Or at least parts of it,) was at 1:30AM when I couldn't get to sleep in a hotel room on a family trip to Massachusets(Da** hotel beds...).

For all you know, it may not have been a cop; my cousin bought a Crown Victoria(Undercover cop car), people would slow down around him. Unfortunately he began abusing this, using the sides of the road your not supposed to enter(Don't recall what their called), speeding without worries and eventually he impersonated a police officer by doing pretty much the same thing that happened to you, only the guy he did this to was a real cop. He's now had to get the police flashers and sirens removed from it.

Well, occasionally those kinds of things can be found on police auction cars if it wasn't an undercover car, I saw a few with them on at the police auction my cousin got his at...though the law requires their removal...was their a police auction that day or recently? If so, he may have been taking it to get them removed and was enjoying it while he could.

Err, I was just stating a possibility that is increased in likelihood due to the fact that, according to you yourself, the authority had recently ordered state troopers to be more strict. It could be a cop abusing their power, yes, but from what I know firsthand, it's possible it wasn't a cop, though equally possible it was.
