Truth

Okay. So I'm reading this book called East of Eden by John Steinbeck. I'm not prepared by any means to talk about the book, but I do want to talk about this one quote that I adore.

An unbelieved truth can hurt a man much more than a lie.

Read it a few times, and think about it.

Alright, so now I got you thinking. Or at least I hope I did.

I can think back to so many situations in my own life where somebody didn't believe me when I was telling the truth. Some of those times, it hurt. A lot. It stung deep down. When someone totally rejects your truth and believes that it's truly a lie... Wow, it hurts. It's got to be one of the most devastating emotions I've ever experienced. You just don't know what to say, or what to do, or how to get them to believe you... The fact that this person doesn't believe what you're saying is true...

Man.

It drives me crazy.

I'm with Smeag.

(Also, I promise, I believe you!)

In my experience (which has been a short one) I've found that that happens to people mainly because they hardly do tell the truth. When the person in question actually does tell the truth, then, of course no one will believe them because they think it's just another lie.

I am in no way trying to say you're a lier, Kex. :P

So true. ZSZ is right about the reason for this usually being because the person in question rarely does tell the truth, but I'm pretty sure this happens to even the best of us. Sad thing really that's happened to this world.

Fortunately, a rare experience for me. But it did happen recently. And boy, was it an unpleasant feeling. Especially because the person who didn't believe my truth was so dear to me.

What do you say to a person who you had the full intention of marrying up until recently, when the relationship broke off for a reason that was no reason at all except other people said it was for the best, and now you meet her and she accuses you of being cold because of the reason that never even was, when the real reason you're not acting like yourself is the simple fact that the love of your life has left you and there's nothing you can do about it and you're only shielding yourself emotionally in the most natural, human way??? AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!

BCii losing his composure? Yes, you saw that. This is real. No, there is no cause for concern. I have my wounds, too, like anyone else. These things take time to heal. Thank you, Kex, for being the catalyst for my cathartic outburst. I think I needed it.
