The Frazzled Puffball And The Recycled Plant
The Thursday before Easter, Leigh Ann and I found a few of those odd little fuzzy chicken-things around the school and were quite fascinated by them (I think a yellow, pink, and blue one turned up). Then this week, I discovered another one, somewhere between yellow and green, sitting all by itself on a shelf in the Latin room, all battered and frizzy...
Isn't it like a blend of terrifyingly freaky and one of the most adorable things ever? Both its wings are on one side, I think it's supposed to have a real beak, and all the fuzz is sticking straight up... it looks sort of like an owl, actually.
And then today, after 5th period, one of the custodian-people came by and dumped a bunch of large plant clippings into the trash can by the Junior lockers. Being the plant fan I am, I went over to investigate and pulled out this wonderfully green and leafy plant and walked around with it for a while (I loved the looks people gave me), until I eventually pulled a large Snapple bottle out of the recycling bin, filled it with water, and put the thing in it.
Then I spent the rest of the day carrying that around. It was remarkably fun, even if it's lopsided because it's technically a branch. Eventually I took it home, since the Biology teacher said it might be able to grow again if I potted it. Plants can do surprising things sometimes.
It was decided that the whole image of me walking around with a plant in my hand was very typical of me and my personality. That made me happy.
