An Unusual Snakes Post

A brief one, too, since the longer I go on, the more likely it is I'll spoil something.

So I saw 'Snakes on a Plane' yesterday. It's a fantastic movie, provided that you're old enough (no encouragement to fly in the face of the ratings system here... sorry, folks). Don't go in expecting high cinema, and you're gold.

Anyhow. So I'd heard some things about how it was filmed here in Vancouver. Okie. Lots of things are filmed here. Lots of funky things. Wouldn't be too surprising. Thing is, though, I hadn't heard a thing from anyone around here about working on or knowing anybody who worked on it. That's a bit weirder. You'd think someone I/my mother knows would be willing to mention their experiences on 'this new movie with Samuel L. Jackson'.

Then we saw the movie. I'll tell you right now, in a lot of the non-plane scenes, it's pretty darn obvious this was filmed in Vancouver. Sure, there aren't any of the immediately-betraying skyline shots, but the scenery... And I swear I've been in that neighborhood before. Or, if not that exact place, then a few others like it.

Yep. Totally filmed here. No wonder it's such a pure grade of awesome. :D

So I guess the point of this entry is 'yay Vancouver'. So... yay Vancouver.

Because I could, changed enouigh to enough.

The only part of Canada I've seen is Quebec, which impressed me a lot. I'll have to visit Vancouver someday; heck, why not tour the whole country?

Oh sure, almost everything films in Vancouver... because "On Location" wouldn't be believable. I mean, if they filmed in Pisa, no one would believe that the tower's really leaning: they'd think it was special effects.

Nope, not at all believable. :P

Canada is awesome. We have cake.

I had the same experience (but change the names of the films to the ones to be mentioned, and Vancouver to Calgary) with Training Day, Brokeback Mountain and some movie with Brad Pitt in it. I can't be bothered to remember it. But it was mediocre. And the popcorn was too salty.

Also: Must see Snakes on a Plane. If only out of spite. And they know who they are.

Because Toronto is to be avoided at all costs.

I bet they just have to pay less taxes to film in Vancouver. :P

*had to look up Vancouver on Google Maps*

Actually, that's one of the reasons so many projects come up to Vancouver... a kickin' tax credit. And the (not as much anymore, though) lower dollar. ;)

We do. We've got some fine cake. Sometimes our MPs will guard the cake on Canada Day, however, and they will attempt to deter any cake-hunters with loud jazz music. They're crafty that way.

Brad Pitt. Bah. Other movies, okie. But Brad Pitt, nah. I'd peg the extra saltiness on the pure no radiating from the film itself.

See it. See it while you're still alive. Don't think I haven't seen that edit of yours. Oh yes. You're messing with the wrong powers here. I warned you.

It is on, bloggie. It is on.

You see distinctive shots of Vancouver in a lot of films. The harbour, for one, is popular.

Now you made me miss the place. I may end up spending the bulk of my student loan (which, in this enlightened republic, goes under "disposable income") on a plane ticket next summer.

Such a beautiful city. *Sigh*

But Jyväskylä is beautiful, too. And it's only an hour's train ride away. You stirred up my buried sentiments for Vancouver; for that, I'm going to rave about Jyväskylä until you beg for mercy. But that will be for another time and another place.

Ciao, empress.
