I Can Count To 1023 On My Fingers
HAH! All you silly people who can only count to 10 with your fingers! I can count from zero to 1023 on my FINGERS!
It's a little tricky at first but it's not as hard as it looks.
0000000000 zero
1000000000 one
0100000000 two
1100000000 three
0010000000 four (watch out for this one, it'd be your left middle finger XD)
1010000000 five
0110000000 six
1110000000 seven
0001000000 eight
1001000000 nine
0101000000 ten
1101000000 eleven
0011000000 twelve
1011000000 thirteen
0111000000 fourteen
1111000000 fifteen
0000100000 sixteen
And so on and so forth. If your finger is up it's one, if your finger is down, it's zero. With this system you can count up to two to the power of however many fingers you have, minus one: for most of you I hope that's ten fingers, making 1024 - 1 which is 1023. It's still 1024 permutations, but you can only go up to 1023 because zero counts as one of them.
Goes like this:
Left thumb: 1
Left index finger: 2
Left middle finger: 4
Left ring finger: 8
Left pinky: 16
Right thumb: 32
Right index finger: 64
Right middle finger: 128
Right ring finger: 256
Right pinky: 512
So if you wanted to display, like, 342 to pick some arbitrary number, you split it up by subtracting the greatest power of two possible from it until you get down to the end.
342 - 256 = 86
86 - 64 = 22
22 - 16 = 6
6 - 4 = 2
So 342 = 256 + 64 + 16 + 4 + 2
That's:
0110101010
Meaning your left index, middle, and pinky fingers will be up, and your right index and ring fingers would be up.
Of course this is just me rambling on since any proper geek already knows how to count in binary but I only just figured it out.
It's so much fun though. I usually mess up after 64 though and lose track XD.
