I can't say I miss those years consistently. 2003 was rather disappointing (basically all the same action features for Makuta, the Matoran, and the Rahkshi, whereas the Matoran, Rahkshi, and Bohrok-Kal were all clone sets. Pewku made it liveable). In a similar way, so were 2004 and (for Americans) early 2005. Sure, these new parts and colors were great, but the canister sets were still on the verge of clonedom, the small sets not even on the verge, and not only the colors but also many of the parts were next to unMOCable until a few more years of sets had debuted and until 2005's Titan sets showed us how largely Technic-BIONICLE fusion sets could be done without the result looking like blocky robotic crud. The Visorak, still clones, nevertheless broke the mold with the concept of multiple "categories" of division (for instance, three Visorak had Toa Mata secondary colors while three had various bright colors), creative color schemes, etc. Really I can say with confidence that one of the best years we've ever had was 2007. Beautifully-designed small sets, if cloned, and they were the only clone sets in the mix. Or is this about story? If it is, then I can't really profess much to liking 2004 and 2005-- after all, it wasn't until late 2005 that I discovered that the books had any worthwhile content (until then, the only book our family had was Trial by Fire, whose content was little more than a retelling of the comics in what seemed then to be more detail than necessary). So the story remained for me the vestigial hodgepodge left over from 2001 and 2002 media, except without a fun online game as the chief means of portraying this story. 2001 was beautiful. But one could never follow the whole story in all its beauty; one had to see it again and again from different points of view. I am much more satisfied with today's more cohesive story, a dream which was not realized until 2006 at the earliest. So while today's story lacks so much of the air of mystery that arose in 2001, it has become that such mystery is not needed, and we can finally get back to answering the questions that plagued us since those chaotic early years. A matoran becomes a toa and wins a ball game and saves the world by dropping a rock on himself. 2005: Old people tell a year's long story. Bore everyone. Also it took place on an underground island. Right below you. And you didn't even know. This entire time. Lil' Matoran become toa and then old people. Also Makuta is defeated. But not really. Again. 2006: Return to Metru Nui for five seconds. Lil' Matoran become toa. Again. Travel to another island to save some thing to save some guy. Also 6 guys want to destroy you. Again. Makuta is not really dead. Again. Little matoran want to help you. Again. 2007: Toa have to travel. Again. Toa have to transform. Again. Have to face 6 bad guys. Again. Eventually have to save a mask. Again. Also Makuta is still alive. Also it's underwater. Also a toa guy dies for the first time ever. That's kinda unique. 2008: Back to the original guys, and 6 bad guys hate you again... and stuff, I stopped paying attention to. I haven't really bothered with any of the 2008 stuff. Lost interest. But also, if it did go back to 2001-2005, I would still have lost interest because it would of been the same stuff still, and I would probably have lost interest sooner actually. Again. 2007: Toa have to travel. Again. Toa have to transform. Again. Have to face 6 bad guys. Again. Eventually have to save a mask. Again. Also Makuta is still alive. Also it's underwater. Also a toa guy dies for the first time ever.
