As shown above, a black hole is passing over a background galaxy. As it passes infront of the galaxy, the gravitational force of the black hole bends the light from the galaxy around itself. Thus causing the circular light around the hole.

 

 

AWESOME. I definately want to learn more about gravitational lenses and hyperbolic geometry.
