2 Set Reviews

Last weekend, on fall break, I just had to stop by the Lego Store. (Actually, I had to, because I wanted to fill out an interest form for working there during the Christmas Season.) I was planning on picking up the Imperial Dropship (Storm Trooper Battle Pack), and also realized I should pick up the orc impulse set.

Orc Impulse Set

First off, it's still in the bag. Built. If I had a camera I'd show you all. It's nice. Small, just a tad expensive with the $3.50 price tag, but not bad considering what you get:

-Wheels

-Silver spears

-Orc

-Rat

-helmet in gunmetal (and that cool sword)

After building it, I sort of regretted not getting that helmet for probably 50 cents at BrickFair. But I didn't have a mouse and the orc himself is cool. I could probably live without the rest, considering I already had 12 swords from the Exo-Force Jungle Cutter.

I think the only reason to get this would be the Orc. I'm not regretting the buy, but at this price I know where orcs are cheaper. (And when you go searching for such minifig online, it's really called a troll. Weird, huh? Perhaps gremlin, or goblin.)

Ultimately, it depends on if you want it or how badly you want the fig and rat. While I said I "sort of" regretted getting it, I don't quite. It's cool. It has a flick-fire catapult missile. Plus you get to build it in the bag.

Imperial Dropship

A small set, it's brother would seem a likely choice over this. But, while those hats will come in handy if I ever get it, I really didn't have any Storm Trooper minifigs, and this kind of deal probably was not going to come again. Three figs, a shadow trooper, and various pieces for $10 is a deal in my book.

On top of that, you get another cockpit visor/windshield thing, always helpful for spacers like myself. I don't have any of these (it comes with two), and I'm going to enjoy putting these stickers on a few flat, 2x2 circle tiles.

What the set lacks in large amounts of pieces, it makes up in functionality. The swooshy ship drops down, you get to lift up the back, and drop off the back cargo load of stormtroopers. Or pick them up, close the hatch, and they don't fall out. This set is fun to play with, and that's coming from someone who almost immediately cannibalizes sets. If you're interested in this set, I recommend it.

That concludes any Lego buying for myself I'll be doing for a while. I'm putting Takanuva on my Christmas list (and probably a few other sets), and my birthday is a month after. I can only hope my family (esp. brother) and friends get my hints.

If it actually was gunmetal, I'd be interested. It's really black glitter, the most useless color in existence.

*checks* Good point. Not quite like the Bionicle pieces. I guess it's "rust."

They fire, with some effort on your part. I think they're designed to not need much force, so that they have a springy action, but not quite.

But that should be the least of your worries when buying a set, IMO.

I prefer it's cousin, the Clone Trooper Assault set from 07

Yeah, I immediately got that one when it came out for the Clones. But I didn't have any Storm Troopers, so I got this.
