Generally, I'm more likely to read and reply to shorter entries. Humor also attracts me, and when the entry's author spends more time talking about thoughts than himself or his life, it gives me more to comment on. (There's just not much to say when someone blogs, "Today I ate breakfeast and went for a bike ride.")

But, as for ratings, uness I find something inappropriate or disgusting (in which case I will report the entry), I'm definitely rating a blog five stars. There are some members, however, who will, for no explainable reason, rate every blog one star, or just rate without even thinking about it. So I don't think ratings are much to go by.
