Second To Last Phynal Phoughts

Got out of the house today and decided to get the three mediocre Mistika. Are they mediocre? Well, read on to hear my thoughts!

Let's start with everyone's absolute least favourite Mistika, Gali Nuva. Now, I admit, she is also my least favourite Mistika, but to be fair, it's not a bad set, despite it being completely unrecognisable from the original Toa of Water. What I don't like is the mask (although it really does depend on the picture you look at), the shoulder armour (sure, they're nice pieces, but as shoulder armour, I'm not sure...), the Metru feet as feet and the rocket boosters on the feet. And don't forget the reverse Piraka torso. But overall, it combines into a a fairly good set. Although the fins on the adapted Kaukau don't need to be there. At all. Also, gone is any real weapon individual to her, going for the Kopaka Phantoka style of weaponry. Which is still OK, but a horrible idea. But oh boy, tons and tons of silver! That is a plus, that's for sure. Despite everyone's complaints about silver, I still love silver. It's what makes BIONICLE stand from the rest. I would have preferred different limbs though than 4 Inika shins.

Well, I don't mind the shoulder armour, nor the feet, nor the jets, or the reverse torso. And the mask is OK, but ONLY on a right side profile. XD The fins don't bother me too much. I really wish there was a weapon of some sort, because that targeter leaves alot to be desired. And overall...yes, I have to admit, there is too much silver. But also two different types, the limbs are the old style while everything else is the new style seen since 06. It's not friendly when there is so much of it. And...she's not exactly very interesting, there's only so many things you can do with that Nynrah. Definetly not in the running for best set of the year.

Oh Tahu. Why oh why do you have Metru plating on your limbs? Not a cool way to go. Makes the thighs and upper arms seem to exposed. Not the same for his shins, I must say though. The three blades on the back of shins I thought would be horrible, but since the piece is designed so well, it actually makes Tahu look more armoured. Now, to bad stuff, we have that annoying reverse Piraka torso again. The only times that has ever worked is with Hahli and Lesovikk. Hahli because the hips and torso pieces were the same colour, and for Lesovikk because it was covered up by the Nuparu claws. Not like this. It didn't work for Hewkii, and it certainly doesn't work here. He also has a lovely array of silver, which works equally as well because there is more Metru red to go with it. And the Inika feet in Metru red I do like. His nasty shield is pretty cool, with the recovery of the Gahlok Kal shield and that three blade thingamabob. It doesn't work like Pohatu's Propellers, but it will be cool still. His mask...well, it's love/hate. The mask is very ninja like, which is OK, but it's certainly no Hau, which is bad. And why does it have a Rode-esque fin? No, no, no. And finally, my biggest gripe, the four jet engines, with two having fins. ATTACHED TO HIS FRONT. I'll say no more. I am perplexed as to why Tahu has black single socket pieces...

Please, please, PLEASE! No more Metru plating on long double sockets. IT DOESN'T WORK! For the last couple of weeks, the rockets haven't bothered me so much. They certainly do bother me now. Attached to his front? What were they thinking! And to top it off, they're not fixed! Suppose it's good for play, maybe, but still. Otherwise, he's not too bad. Like the feet and legs, his mask is quite impressive, the fins blend well with his overall appearance, and the weapons work surprisingly well. There is a similar silver problem, but as he red feet, it makes all the difference. But black single sockets? Still don't understand, silver or Metru red I suspect would be better.

Gorast is one ug-er-lee boord. Ie, she's not exactly easy on the eye for a female. But I don't think she's one that is particularily stuffed about her looks. Anyway. Why on earth did they use a Metru Grey Inika torso? Absolutely ruins the colour scheme, which works really well, lime green and black. She has six limbs, all 90 degree Avtoran pieces. The feet/hands on four of the limbs are really cool, with the blended colour pieces. The actual hand pieces on the other two limbs are fantastic, another great addition to the claw family established long ago by Onua Mata. The mask (???) is really wide, and consists of orange Bohrok eyes, and has a nasty looking stinger from her mouth. Icky. But finally, the most interesting pieces are the wing things. They're of that translucent style, and they're really broad and really long, and basically makes the set.

...everything about her is small. Her mask is shorter than expected. Her wings are shorter and thinner than expected. And she's really short. I haven't compared her to Vamprah yet, but I bet it is stiff competition for smallest there. The way the hands work is also quite hard to pose. But I like the colour scheme overall, and the wing pieces and mask are particularily interesting. The stinger at least is slightly longer than expected. And of course, the Nynrah works excellently with her. The torso isn't noticable enough for me to care.

Overall, I do prefer the other three to these three, but being a completionist this year, it's great to have them. It's also great that I saved 36% on the price, as the place I bought them from had a 20% off sale and they were already $4 cheaper than normal, so I got them cheaper (just) than three Toa MATA. Insanity! So, worth it in that regard. tongue.gif

Ah...and that only leaves me with two sets I want to get to get, ever! Vultraz and Takanuva. Wow...this is quite scary...

 Gali when you make her neck more normal.

Whoa, completely forgot about the neck. Which I don't really mind that much. Probably why I forgot.

The Metru armor is essential on Tahu; make it any thicker, and his arms strike his armor at a funny angle, in which the armor then comes loose and falls off. How do I know this... Kopaka Phantoka was plagued by this problem. So I was fully expecting blah on Tahu for arms... but no. If you want to change his shoulder armor, you also have to change his arm limb piece.

Otherwise, interesting reviews.

Wouldn't a piece like the Inika shoulder piece or Gali's shoulder piece be fine? That would probably look quite good on him too. But really...it makes his arms and legs look even thinner than they already are, and that's quite bad. It won't trouble me in my sleep, though.

As for the BS01 Spotlight, Tradakk...blarg, it's changing today anyway. :P
