Bara Magna

For those of you unaware, this is Bara Magna.

Isn't it beautiful?

Yes it is.

Now, after looking around a bit you may notice the body-parts of a Great Spirit scattered through Bara Magna. There's a leg west of Tajun, a piece in Iron Canyon, and of course Skull Mountain itself. (Being the coolest tribe, the Skrall get to have the coolest body part in their territory.) Also notable are "Elbow Peak," possibly a body part south of the Hot Springs, and what may be fingers east of Tesara.

(Until an official name is given, I'll refer to this Great Spirit as "Rua Nui," which is Maori for "Great #2.")

My thoughts on the subject are that Rua Nui and Mata Nui are the "two that must make the three into one." Previously "the two" was a bit of a problem for theorists, but it all seems to be pretty clear now. I don't know why he crashed on Bara Magna, but I have a feeling it was 100,000 years ago, as that would make for a pretty cataclysmic disaster. If I were a Vorox I would totally regress.

Your guess as to why he crashed is as good as mine. Maybe his "AI" was a bit buggier than Mata Nui's, and the Makuta inside him (If he even had any) took a more direct approach in taking down their Great Spirit. By just letting him die, maybe. Maybe they weren't quite as clever as Makuta Teridax.

Speaking of Mata Nui, though, that silhouetted figure definitely appears to be wearing an Ignika. Just saying.

Anyways, some other things on the map that interest me:

  • The Sea of Liquid Sand- Could boats go on it? Could graboids live in it?
  • The prospect of abandoned domes inside Rua Nui's body- Are ruinous, sideways islands still in there?
  • Those weird spikes west of Vulcanus- Probably not too significant, but still... What are they?
  • That purty UDD compass rose
  • The fact that Roxtus is situated right on Rua Nui's chin- Do the Skrall have a nice view?
So yeah, 2009's looking up. I hope we stay on Bara Magna a long time. The whole location shown right here is bigger than all of the Matoran Universe from 2001-2008, so I imagine we'll be here a while.

I don't really think that whole area shown on the map is bigger than MN/MU....

Chances are the very desert-looking planet hides fun places inside that body.

Also possible is Mats could be looking for a dude just like him wandering around on the surface, possibly with amnesia.

There's just endless ways things could go down here.

So like... is he gonna' hook up with some other like him and then they take all their followers from 2001-2008 and Glatorians over to ANOTHER planet to snag Mr. Part Three Great Being?

Unless that's a really small Great Spirit, it's bigger.

I'd assume it's a really small one.

Or (new theory) those are just natural formations, and that's where the Great Beings got the idea for Mata Nui X3

I say we ask Greg. :P

I'm rather rusty on my story, but couldn't the matoran of Mata Nui be the only ones that call their universe-guy the "Great Spirit"? The new one could've been called "Benevolent spirit" for all we know.

Maybe by "Great Spirit" he meant the actual spirit controlling Mata Nui's body.

Maybe this other body was controlled by the people within as a form of communism? It would explain why it collapsed.

This is sort of related:

1. What exactly is a Great Spirit? I'm a little confused at this point, and I can't really find a satisfactory answer. Is the Great Spirit the being that controls the Matoran universe/exploratory device, or is it the machine itself? Can Mata Nui still be considered the Great Spirit even though he has been stripped of his powers? Since Teridax now controls the universe, does that technically make him the Great Spirit? And can Mata Nui the entity be considered the 'driver' or operator of the universe as opposed to actually inhabiting it like a soul naturally inhabits a body?

1) Great Spirit is the name given by the Matoran to the being who controls their universe. It is a "job title" if you will, and a term of honor, which is why even though Makuta controls the universe now, the Matoran would not call him that. So no, Mata Nui would not still be considered a Great Spirit, since he does not have the powers of one anymore.

So the loophole could be that the term Great Spirit is only used by the Matoran Universe. :shrugs:

Of course it's bigger than Mata Nui.

A GREAT SPIRIT SPANS ACROSS THE WHOLE MAP.

Or rather, to answer the GS fuss, what was a GS.

That's why Greg says there is only one GS. The other(s) are either inactive, currently being constructed, or dead/destroyed.

And it doesn't matter if it's bigger than MN, because the only returning character from the MU can alter his form's size.

So really, I don't know why any of the scale matters at all.
