Very Important: New Sig Poll Rule!

Yes, I realize I am making two entries in one day (so make sure you read the one below :P ), but it is for an important reason.

I have made into drafts all the entries containing sig polls, because I recently found out they count as advertising. Two of my friends have already lost their signatures ("Click here to see why I shouldn't advertise!") for having sig polls. The reason is the commenting area (1) has no word filter, and (2) is being used as a forum.

I thought I would warn you all that, if you have a sig poll, to take it out as soon as possible. Here is the topic which says they are not allowed.

I'm hoping this entry will warn many members beforehand and, maybe, help prevent anyone else from losing their signatures because of this.

I think its kind of unfair, I mean, if some guys want to have fun and random polls, then they should. As long as its ain't bad or anything.

*Sigh* But oh well, rules are rules.

The problem is, these sig polls feature a sort of mini-forum within them (the previous form of sig polls that had popped up had linked to forums), which can and was abused. I can recall one instance in particular where nothing but cruelness, foul language, and personal insults to the person whose sig the poll was in were posted to the poll. Since it seems that people can't even restrain themselves when presented with anonymity and a location outside BZP rules, then that wrecks it for the others with the more innocent polls, forum rules or not.

There is an option that disables the comment feature so if that's used, I assume that the polls would be harmless. I might use them for useful means and I can't ask for a poll in the Voting Booth or pop up a blog entry. Besides, considering the amount of comments my sigpoll got when it was up, I'm assuming more people look at my sig then the entire Voting booth and the majority of blogs =P

Tufi's right on the anonymosity of the commeters though. I got at least a couple of people with anonymous names instead of their BZ alias with comments like 'this poll is stupid'. It's might be mainly out of jealousy I would asume because nobody knows them or maybe they felt like mocking the poll because they get bullied in real life and need to get their frustrations out, or maybe they lack the brainpower to realise a joke, but I'm over thinking this.

It's no suprise that there's the spam. Most commenters put their BZ name and a non-flamy comment, though there would be a few to wreck it Just like real life! =£

I'd think disabling the comments though should be okay, as I could use the sig polls for other things with a meaningful point instead of 'Which option did you choose, This one, This one or Mr Plibbles?' =P

It was a good joke though, and many members liked it more then the 'this is dumb' people.

They are banner-sized (or bigger) mini polls for your signature. I'm sure you've seen them. They're a fad, and although they're illegal now, I'm sure you'll see a few sometime. They ask questions like, "which name do you think I should have next" or "do you like cheese?"
