You are looking into too much on that last point. It was living when it was introduced, but it's fate wasn't given in the end. So, considering what happened down in Mahri Nui, you can assume that some things may have died in the end of 07, my guess included... but we didn't see it happen.

I think you're confusing the two. Most Rahi are probably sentient, but the majority aren't sapient. Krahka, for example, is a sapient Rahi.
