Name: Sephiroth

Other Names: Bizzaro Sephiroth (boss fight); Safer Sephiroth (boss fight)

Game: Final Fantasy VII

Other Appearences (in FF series): Advent Children, Dirge of Cerberus, Before Crisis, Crisis Core, Last Order

Class: SOLDIER First Class

Birthplace: Nibelheim

Hometown: ?

For starters, Sephiroth is a complete whackjob. He was the product of an experiment performed by Professor Hojo (a bigger whackjob), and also the offspring of Hojo and Dr. Lucrecia Crescent. The experiment involved using the cells of an alien lifeform called Jenova. Jenova came to the planet around 2000 years ago, and was believed to be an Ancient (Cetra), which was a race of humans who had powers connected to the planet and white magic. However it was proven to be false, because Jenova was a calamity, and wiped out most of the Cetra with a disease. The survivors became immune to it and lived on, some becoming regular humans.

Anyways, both Hojo and Lucrecia were injected with the Jenova cells, and later Sephiroth was to as well during Lucrecia’s pregnancy. The cells evolved Sephiroth into a “super human”, possessing qualities that a normal human can’t. The Jenova cells slowly ate away at Lucrecria, and later died. Hojo lived on. Sephiroth was never told of the truth of his origin, and was only told that his mother was Jenova

During Sephiroth’s career he was in SOLDIER, which was an elite military force, and he rose through the ranks quickly to First Class. After the war (which is mentioned quite a few times in the game), Sephiroth and another SOLDIER Zack were sent to Nibelheim to check out a problem with the reactor. Cloud Strife was also along with them as a regular grunt. During this mission, Sephiroth found a specimen labeled “Jenova”. Sephiroth says that was his mother’s name, and suddenly realized the truth of his origin. He locked himself deep within Shinra Mansion and read the research files on the Jenova Project, along with other files about the Cetra and planet. The more he read, the more his hatred for the planet grew.

When he left the mansion, Sephiroth spazzed out on the town, killing everyone in his path and burning the town down as well. After his little temper tantrum, he went to the reactor to get his mother. Zack caught up with him there, and had a brief skirmish with Sephiroth. Sephiroth totally owned Zack. Cloud managed to get there and caught Sephiroth off guard by impaling him with the Buster Sword (which was Zack’s). Sephiroth soon got up and took Jenova’s head. Cloud tried to stop him, but Sephiroth just impaled him twice with his sword. Cloud gathered his strength and threw Sephiroth off the ledge, and he fell into the Mako energy deep below.

During the course of 5 years, Sephiroth traveled through the Lifestream and gained the knowledge of the Cetra and other dead spirits, and ended up at the Northern Crater (where Jenova crash-landed many years before). Using his enhanced mental powers, Sephiroth made projected copies of himself using Jenova cells (which explains why they can float and go through walls in the game). Cloud and the gang don’t officially meet Sephiroth until the end of the game. His appearances in the game were not him.

Sephiroth’s plan was to control the hosts of Jenova cells, which were ex-members of SOLDIER. They were given the mission to seek out the Black Materia, which can summon the most powerful black magic Meteor. His plan with Meteor was to create a scar in the planet, and he would be in the middle gaining the Lifestream to heal the scar. With all the energy in him, he will become a new god. He succeeds in gaining the Black Materia when he took control of Cloud and had him and the team to do the dirty work. Sephiroth summoned Meteor, and the only way to stop it was the white magic Holy.

When Sephiroth is met at the end of the game, his appearance is a larval form called Bizzaro Sephiroth (which is what he turned into over the 5 years). He then takes another form after this, which is basically his final form known as Safer Sephiroth. This is where he gets the title “One-Winged Angel”, since his right arm becomes a wing. He also has his own theme music during this battle, which is called One Winged Angel.

Sephiroth also has one more final appearance, which is when Cloud passes out and has to face off against Sephiroth alone in his mind. Cloud finishes him with Omnislash. Sephiroth dies, and not too long after that, Meteor is destroyed by the Lifestream.

2 years after Meteorfall (the events of Advent Children), Sephiroth makes one more appearance, of which 3 remnants of Jenova performs a Jenova Reunion to bring back Sephiroth. This time, Sephiroth’s plan was to use the planet as a vessel in the universe. Cloud defeats him once more with Omnislash.

In Dirge of Cerberus, Sephiroth is only seen in a small flashback (which is the vision of Nibilheim’s destruction), and is also mentioned by Wiess at the end.

Sephiroth's weapon is the Masamune and his Limit Break is Supernova, which he summons a huge comet that hits the sun, causing a supernova blast that hits the earth. Dunno why he didn't use that for his plans.

I was suprised he wasn't the first Final Fantasy Character of the Week.

Anyway, Sephiroth is one of the coolest characters ever, plus the theme song “One-Winged Angel” from Advent Children is one of my favorite themes ever.

I recently had my Metroid Prime Hunters name as Sephiroth... it is now Red XIII. See the pattern? :P

I was surprised as well. Especially considering he was second behind a character from one of the..."lesser known" FFs. At least as I've seen it discussed. It'll be interesting to see who's next. ;)

I figured people would expect me to do Cloud first.

Trust me, there are cooler characters than Sephiroth. ;)
