Though um, yeah, I am aware of the fact that people here are dumb when it comes to same sex pairings, so the whole defense of "Flame wars ensue and you lose faith in humanity" is an all too valid one, in my experience. Too many members of BZP think that het romance is gross, which is utterly baffling.

Well, my thought is that the admins don't want to undermine anything that parents may be teaching their kids. That way the site stays an acceptable place for kids. It doesn't have anything to do with discrimination. I think

Yeah, the whole problem with this is that there are a large variety of people (here, in the world at large, pretty much anywhere) who get quite displeased when same-sex love is so much as mentioned. And then when it's actually discussed in earnest (blog entry, love story, etc.) then things often just get nasty. Really, -really- nasty sometimes. As we unfortunately know from experience.

Which is why it's not allowed at the moment in the Library, because, as our dear LMK put it, we don't have enough faith in humanity to think that hurtful, bashing statements -wouldn't- be flung around if gay ship stories were posted. And that's just putting it mildly. It's a one of those "seriously... we don't want this to happen again, and we know it would given the opportunity" things.

However, I do encourage lobbying the admins about it if you feel strongly enough. It would be nice if it were allowed, I think; but right now the course of caution has been opted for. Which only makes sense.

Agreed. The only thing is, I think the staff should've given an adequate reason for the ban. Not listing a reason and just saying the admins don't want people to enter "that sort of story." I think the staff could've made it more clear. I do not believe the staff are prejudiced in the least, but when no clear reason is given, people might be drawn to a different conclusion about the rule.

I believe that ToM put it best, since all it caused was comments that weren't all that nice, as well as the fact that it just caused problems in general. Maybe one day it'd be allowed, but that's all up to who the Admins are at the time, or if the current Admins change their minds on the subject. At the moment, I'm not incredibly displeased with it, only because I don't have anything with the same gender relations written down anywhere, and so it doesn't really affect me as an individual so much.

In short: I don't care what happens with that rule, as long as it doesn't cause problems.
