I guess I pay to little attention to the actual forums because I didn't even know people were this incompetent.

I really should fix those...

Fix what now?

Why, who's been saying this?

Not to name names, but I keep seeing people call the Glatorian heads "yellow."

Well, LEGO has used them to depict yellow in the past... not saying that such describes the color itself, but if LEGO wants a yellow-eyed Glatorian for whatever reason I have no doubt this will be their pick. Which IMO is tolerable, as this color is a lot more vibrant under any lighting due to its fluorescent nature (put a blacklight up to the two and you'll see what I mean). Not the most necessary color substitution, but it sure beats LEGO using such horrendously dark colors as Onua's original trans-green.

If you're referring to the way they make their eyes yellow in advertisements, I deeply frown upon that. False advertising FTL.

I'm not, although I don't think that's much of a problem: trans yellow-green represents yellow in some sets, namely Av-Matoran. In other words, it is not meant to be yellow, but rather a preferable alternative. I was a fan, anyway, just as I am still a fan of using trans. neon orange rather than the glassier trans. red to represent red eyes on BIONICLE beings.

The greenness of it cannot be denied, but neither (in my opinion, anyway) can the yellowness. In my childhood we didn't use silly names like "light green" (as the BS01 wiki used until it was decided that eye colors were irrelevant to story); the term I used was "yellow-green". Although this did not even make note of its fluorescence (perhaps the best aspect of this color), it did at least accurately describe it in contrast with normal trans-green and trans-yellow.

Wait, Aanchir, you're confusing me. Aren't we talking about the names of colors? Then clearly there is a difference between the two pix Bunda has shown. Gali had yellow eyes, and Lewa had green, as did Onua, so Lewa has neon-green eyes. There are plenty of other trans neon green pieces out there too next to trans green.

Or are they being called yellow-green out there somewhere? I guess I could accept that too, but I think we need a unified color code, and Peeron is probably the one to follow. (In which case they list Lewa's as Trans Neon Green, as is the head Bunda showed, and Onua's as Trans Green.)

No, sorry for the confusion. I'm saying I called Lewa's color eyes yellow-green in my youth, before I even had much of an inkling that there was an online LEGO community (although I was very into LEGO). Yeah, I typically use Peeron's color names and/or popular MOCist names for colors too (or LEGO's when it makes sense-- where'd they get Dark Nougat for Metru Brown?) Ya know, Peeron has a list of the color names LEGO themselves use, if you're interested in a unified color code.

I think I just lost Peeron's validity when I saw them calling Gali's eyes "TransPeach." I guess I can accept Tahu's "TransSalmon" even though TransPink would be better, though it's not quite the System trans pink. Hmm... And Kopaka's is called "TransMediumBlue" instead of our favorite Trans Ice Blue. (Toa Nuju's eye color is, however, Trans Light Blue. Though I would assume medium would be darker than light, and Kopaka's trans Ice blue color is lighter than Nuju's.

There must be some way to make everyone conform to some order color, because I bet a whole lot of BZPers would rather stick with what I'm talking about above than what Peeron calls them....LOL.

Edit: Another site calls them trans yellow and trans pink though. Grah, so many variations. I think I just got inspired for a blog entry on colors.

The trans-yellow (trans-peach?) in Gali's eye piece is, in fact, fluorescent, as is Tahu's trans-salmon / trans-pink / whatamacallit. B)

I'd love to see those colours make a comeback. Also, we need Metru eye pieces in the fluorescent ice blue. And the short eye piece in a wider palette.

I'm wondering when they'll get the idea to use the shorter eyepiece as a headlight piece on a System or Technic car. I've had that idea since the part came out and still haven't seen anyone else consider it.

Also, I did a test recently and (to my perception, anyway) the yellow-green and red-orange pieces tended to be more vibrant, at least to my perception (yellow was still fairly bright, but not quite as much). Not sure if I included Tahu's pink in that test, so perhaps I should redo it, and to anyone interested an easy way to test is to find a blue light (or blacklight, if you have one) and lay out an assortment of transparent-colored pieces beside it. Lo and behold, it becomes immediately apparent how much "glassier" colors like trans-red and trans-green seem than fluorescent colors like trans-red-orange and trans-yellow-green.

Since UV light and other light on the bluer end of the spectrum permeates most spaces, even dark ones, to some extent, it is clear why fluorescent colors might appeal to buyers in general, including those without the best lighting available to them on their display shelves/wherever they keep or play with their sets.
