Actually if it is used as the same body part or design it was designated, I'd consider it unimaginative. However it doesn't apply all the time though.

Pins and axles can't be used in many other ways. =P

I'm sure the designers have all kinds of ideas for new torsos or whatnot, but remember they're limited by cost and marketability.

Did you read interview three? They were ranting and raving about how wonderful the Piraka torso was.

Which is big, hilarious 'Screw you' to all the people who hate it.

And a friendly pat on the back to those who had anticipated a new torso but had nothing against it as a useful piece. If the Inika torso is so unuseable and uncreative, then I'd be glad to hear you explain how Strakk and Skrall managed such intriguing posture with such a useless piece. Or how Gadunka turned a common torso into something entirely new and different.

Honestly, the first torso to have any versatility for anyone but experts, and people expect it to just fall out of use? Sure, the set designers usually use it as a torso piece, but they've consistently used several other pieces without completely reimagining their design. And combiner models demonstrate that no, the set designers aren't uncreative; they just prefer to design stuff anyone can build as sets and save the more complex stuff for combiners or the MOCist domain.

"But why must sets be simple?" some people whine. To be blunt, because they always have. It is a fool who expects a toy company to grow up at the same rate as them. And if there really is a lack of creativity among the set designers, then it's a surprise few MOCists have even tried to propose a better mousetrap. Most MOCists tinker with their custom-built torsos in happiness, but I have scarcely seen one among them who has taken the time to draw out a marketable alternative and explain why it is superior to the current design.

Yes, we get reuses of torsos exactly as-is much of the time; several of the Glatorian Legends can be cited as examples. But in most cases they are tasteful reuses, reuses which appeal to stylistic consistency and create a new and different look without changing a thing. It is a technique most MOCists overlook, but one which I never cease to admire.

Then they like it. Doesn't mean they can't think of anything else.

And this entry was about Midaks, btw. >_>

I thought you were referencing the MOCists who used Metus's helmet on their Certavus MOC.

Well, that's because it looks good. :)

But Bfa's right, they can't make 100% new sets every time.
