The thing is that you need to trick your brain. Make it THINK that it's learning something useless so that it will remember it.

Like, say, instead of highlighting the "key points" of something, highlight everything BUT the key points!!

Or you could re-read all the boring factoids three times, yet just skim over the main idea.
