I Accidentally A Gelu

Also my mom is currently singing "Getting to Know You" in the kitchen.

Oh yeah, and Stronius to.

Quick facts!

Gelu: Blah. The only reason I got him was 'cause there was a fluke at Wal Mart and all the Legends were 11.50 instead of 14.90 something, like they usually are, and like the other Glatorian were.

Mask is nice. Snowflakes are k. Recolored chest is pretty. I finally have some white toed-Inika feet. The blades are larger and cooler than expected. But overall? Pretty blah. He's a basic Inika build, but doesn't do it so elegantly as Ackar. Oh, his mask is really cool too. The main draw of this set is the beautiful new pieces, but the overwhelming ehhhhh of the rest of the set kind of cancels the coolness out. Get Ackar if you want a nice Inika, and Strakk if you want a cool ice dude.

Stronius: Similar to Strakk, actually. Whereas Strakk is a lithe ice troll, Stonius is a hulking stone troll. With a club. B)

There isn't anything stupendously wrong with Stronius (assuming you moved his armor up one stud), so I'll nitpick. Feet could be better. I think Mantax's would have been nice, though they might not have had that spikey look, so maybe these are the best after all. Upper arms need -something-. A Metru leg armor piece would do the job nicely. Unlike Strakk, Stronius doesn't look good with his neck extended, but that's a matter of posing, nothing wrong with the set there.

So yeah. Stronius is cool. Gelu is a bit blah.

And before you ask, no, I am not getting Vastus. I refuse.

Oh yeah update on the MOC front (no, I am not MOCing Front). Bink is moving along, got the body done, and the legs need just a bit of tweaking. I foresee a painful build on the arms and head, though. I still need to find the Puffin Chunks™.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that Stronius has a hideous gap in his torso. From the front, it's invisible, but from the side... it's pretty huge. Much worse than Mata Nui's tiny one that everyone complains about. Maybe the same as Gresh, but I don't have him so I can't compare. It doesn't ruin the set by any means, but it doesn't help, either.

I Accidentally A Gelu

So I was just walking out of the store an-Ohmygosh there's a Gelu in my hand! :fear:

I should get him, but I'm low on my budget after nabbing a Yellow Jetrax + postage.

You should totally MOC Front, heavily basing him of the dragonflies he loves. Unfortunately, not many people would get you. :/

Nooooo you shouldn't. Get Ackar or Kiina, or even Stronius, instead.

lol, can you imagine what would happen if Front came to BZP? :fear:

I'm going to get them all eventually for collecting/3D Modeling purposes, but any additional I get for MOCing parts, I'll give priority to the other sets.

I'm guessing he would be swarmed about which parts he helped design, and what kind of parts will be in 2010. Probably why he hasn't come here.

Vastus is awesome provided you edit his armour and make his staff a one-handed weapon and giving him the launcher in his other hand.

Either that, or Matau Hordika's blade would suffice as a thornax-replacement. :P

it's like saying Tarix looks better with a sheild instead of his other axe with thornax launcher. :P

I can't comment on the Great Stronius Gap, since my little brother got Stronius and didn't keep him together for long enough for me to really figure out his flaws and advantages. Maybe if I call it the Great Stronius Gap for long enough, someone from the National Parks Service will look into it for me.

Or, ya know, you could write a picture review. :P

I'll admit also that Gelu isn't anything too impressive. I mean, he looks cool (i can has?), but besides the blended (read:2009) parts, he's no shining beacon of part choice. His parts don't look bad together, but they don't look unusually good together either.

And now, an only marginally related quote:

"Think of it this way, Bubs! At least you're not on fire!"

Wait, Strakk looks good with his neck extended? You can't mean extended vertically? Because while I don't think there's anything wrong with the Strakk neck style in the right sets, it'd be a stretch for me to justify putting it vertically on Strakk or any other set yet released.

And before you ask, no, I am not getting Vastus. I refuse.

B-But... *snif* snakes!

Nah, you don't have to get him. But I wish you would, if only to make a revamp. And to get some of those awesome green parts, like the unblended feet and new upper-arm joints in dark green.

He doesn't look bad with it extended vertically, but I think diagonal looks better. Some people like it horizontal, but I don't, really.

Problem is, the snake parts are different colors. The mask is dark green, and the shoulders are lime. Thus, it would be pretty much impossible to use them in any sort of color layering.

The only part I'm somewhat interested in for MOCing is the scythe, and I'm not about to drop $15 just for that.

I tend to use diagonal, too (although it's pretty neat how well it fits horizontally). With it diagonal and level with his upper body, it makes his height about the same as Tarix's (possibly one of the coolest things about him IMO is how his armor is like Tarix's on a figure with a totally different physique). In the same vein, it's awesome how well his torso works, since the distance from his hips to his shoulders is the same as on a standard Glatorian-era Inika build.

Vastus's snakes are a bit odd for color layering, but it still works effectively in regard to overall aesthetic snakiness. Still, it would have been a lot smarter to layer the armor the same way as on the legs, with dark green snakes and lime Y-joints. Nevertheless, I can't help but love the snake parts because the stylistic consistency between the snake-parts and Mahritoran blades is too good to be true.

Unfortunately, of course, the problem with stylistic elements that are so distinctive is that it'll be hard for LEGO to use those parts in anything without them standing out as "Vastus parts". Which is a pity, because the shoulder armor is really useful and even works on 90-degree Agori arms! ^-^

So yeah, as I said, I understand you not wanting to get him. But I'm still gonna be disappointed any time I think about what awesomeness you could have come up with using those snaaaaaaaaaaakes.

So I'm not the only one that says "snakes" that way, every single time?

Or I guess I am.

I recently started saying squirrellsssss with a hiss, too.

Wait, what were we talking about?
