I picked up one of those things you use to keep windows super shut and crushed it. Then I washed it down the sink. It was a triumph.

If they're in the bathroom, soap works really well on spiders, and it's possibly more humane than squashing, in the cases where squashing isn't successful the first time. Plus, they're guaranteed to be dead when you wash them away, so there's no need to put the plug on the sink afterwards.
