I get that sometimes, not sure what causes it. Luckily the topics usually die or are closed later, so I'm not pestered too much.

I'm pretty sure its because you set up for notifications for that topic number in the past, before the crash(es), and so now those topics are "back" and you get notifications for them again.

This is it. A lot of topics got deleted, so their topic numbers are being re-used. The board thinks they're the same topic but they aren't.

Ah. That makes sense; the numbers are simply being re-used. I know that I never subscribed to any of these random topics!
