The Truth About Bionicle's End

Sumiki

Recently, there have been many blog entries and much speculation on the end of Bionicle in 2010. There have been many "sources" cited: namely, European fansites.

I, for one, don't trust it. Here's why:

  • It's easy to misconstrue anything foreign. People who don't know English well, plus horrific translation software, is not much "proof" in my book. In many cases, no quotes are provided.
  • Bionicle's sales are at an all-time high. Why would they cancel a line that lines their pockets with millions every year, while the CEOs are sitting at their desks, twiddling their thumbs?
  • If it was to be canceled, people at LEGO would have known by 2009. Why would they sign a multi-year deal for multiple movies featuring the storylines of sequential years if there would be no 2011?
There are more, but those are my main three arguments. Feel free to argue against them. :)

This is what I mean by "translation software" in my post. Even the original text gives it away: "The Bionicle range will see major changes", not "end".

END IT. END IT ALL.

I dunno. I think BIONICLE has pretty much jumped the shark by now. Time for something new in the spirit of the original, but easier to follow. A new premise, a new continuity. I imagine they'll continue to use many of the LEGO elements introduced in BIONICLE, so the gradually retiring builder in me isn't concerned for the future in that regard.

It'll never be as fresh as it was in 2001. That's a fact of life. I'm actually happy to hear that this continuity is ending. It'll be good for fan fiction, at least until people lose interest and stop writing within the old universe.

"Speaking of 2010, indeed, the BIONICLE range will see major changes. LEGO launches in January 2010, redesignated the 6 characters favorite characters from fans since launching the range in 2001. As you know, you can find: Toa Tahu, takanuva, for Gresh Heroes Piraka but also a Rakhshi and skrall. This assortment Collector will also receive a mechanism for collection with 6 elements "golden" in each can transform into Toa Tahu Tahu Gold and give it enough power to win the final battle. And thus conclude the saga beauty Mata Nui and Bionicle story that we know since the launch of the range.

In September 2010, a new set after a new line and pulled a new story hit stores.

This range is not set LEGO Ben 10 Alien Force, which also released in January 2010.

Of course I could share more with you about this new wide release in late December / early January. "

Direct quote from French LEGO employee. Feel free to remove this if you wish, staff.

How confident are you about that translation?

I'm fluent in French and the last bit translates best as:

"And thus concludes the beauty of the Mata Nui saga and the story of BIONICLE as we've known it since the product range was launched. In September 2010, a new set line (coming from a new product range and taken from a new story) will come out in stores."

So BIONICLE isn't ending, we're just getting a total reboot of the story. Maybe along the lines of new setting, new characters, or even a new name. It could be as drastic as the transition of Throwbots to BIONICLE or it could be as benign as BIONICLE Part 2.

So before we go running around like the sky's falling, let's make sure we've got all the facts first, okay? ;)

Even with your human translation, we have mention of a new set line and a new product range. One or another could be taken just as the next wave of sets, but together it's more likely to mean new sets in a new theme.

According to the Mayan calander, Bionicle will end in 2012. We still have a few more years to go. ^_^

:music:

I was gonna post something clever like this!

It therefore stands to reason that xccj is more clever than me and nearly one day faster.

Im here for the claim it is ending

It is

Im convinced

All these sites, catalouges, ...all syaing the same thing..Im inclined to belive it

And Spirit. The Translation could mean ending or rebooting. But from the angle i read it....I leans towards a new line of lego toy. And Listen to Bonesii. Hes smart, hes stated, it could end tomorow for all we know. so enjoy it while we have it, and always be prepared for it to end

As well as 2 tidbits

1) To those who constantly say bionicle is lego's best selling line. Read this Actually,

BIONICLE is not our biggest-selling line and hasn't been in a while. It sells well, but gets outsold by Star Wars and I believe LEGO City these days

2) I would think a lego associate will know what hes talking about ;)

I miss the days when we got the sales data every year for BIONICLE

We got that?

Well, maybe not every year, but there were several years where sales data was posted on the front page of BZP as a news article. Basically it showed how well each line sold for the year. I'll try and find it.

You guys do realize that when BIONICLE ends, this site goes soon after, right?

:burnmad:

Not true. We still have COT, which will undoubtedly become much more predominant, not to mention LGD.

And really, just because the line's ending, who's gonna let that stop them from posting fanfics, drawing characters, trading pieces, and MOCing?

BZP could get on quite well for some time even without Bionicle. I think the only forums that would slow down would be Storyline and Theories and, well, Sets - and even those would still get activity to discuss the old story or sets.

And if Bionicle's just getting a total makeover, then I guess BZP would probably go along with it.
