How Can This Be

At the same time, we are also expanding the category to appeal to a younger audience through an established third-party property, starting in January.

*ages 7-16*

So wait, 7 is not young enough?

Am I missing something?

Regarding the line actually ending, I will reserve my tears until I see how awful/how not entirely awful the new line is at Toyfair in... three months, is it?

Edit: many are theorizing that the 3rd party thing for younger kids is ben 10

i suppose that makes perfect sense

Edit2: i think it's kind of funny how some people are surprised about this

then again, most of them probably only visit BZP for bionicle news etc

I'm not entirely sure what this third party thing means.

It was established somewhere that Ben 10 is not the series replacing Bionicle. Ben 10 starts in January, and new Bionicle thing starts in summer. So yeh.

I am disappointed, but at the same time I'm not.

Wtk am I blind or something? I know they said something sometime that Ben 10 isn't replacing Bionicle, but I don't know anymore.

Ben 10 ISN'T replacing Bionicle. But it IS the thing they were referencing when they said something about 3rd parties and younger target audiences. Bionicle's true replacement is coming out next summer, and we don't know anything about it.

At least, that's how I understand the shenanigans.

Simple.

Bionicle has stars next winter. Also starting in January is Ben 10, aimed at a younger age-group than 7 - look at the sets, they're the Duplo of Bionicle aimed at 5+.

In summer, the 7-16 of Bionicle is replaced with a new, very similar line only with fresh ideas and modeled to have easier jumping on and off points.

What I do hope though, is that if Ben 10 continues past this wave, it doesn't influence the 7-16 sets. I'm not convinced that there only being Agori-sized sets for winter was because Bionicle was ending, but rather because Ben 10 was there as well. I don't want the new 7-16 sets to be just Agori builds. :(

...and considering how they said that they'll have a successor of sorts, and that theres plans for a separate theme aimed at kids (presumably ben 10). I can only hope that the successor will be more geared to older audiences

meaning better set design, smaller pieces, etc

this has the potential to be awesome

but they could end up releasing bionicle sets with a different name and story :/

Beginning in summer 2010, The LEGO Group will debut a new, more flexible buildable figure property created by the same people who brought you BIONICLE. At the same time, we are also expanding the category to appeal to a younger audience through an established third-party property, starting in January.

Flexible = versatile = less inika torso #####?

or stretch armstrong with pinholes
