I Won Na No Wri Mo!
As of 1:15am PST on the 30th of November A.D. 2009, I am a NaNoWriMo winner, and I might be really giddy right now if I wasn't so tired. I'll settle for a fatigued, detached sort of contentment. It is now time for me to reenter into normal life and rediscover what it feels like to actually care about things like grades, socializing, and applying to colleges (oops, one day left to finish that essay ._.).
There were plenty of good things that came out of this, though. For instance, the 50,118 (or 51,245, depending on which word counter you use >.<) words' worth of material which I hope to one day revise and fashion into a cool superhero novel. Sure, it's mostly junk, but there are some nice gems of ideas and dialogue waiting to be dug out and polished. Plus, I have this habit of chronically underestimating my own work.
One of the many weird and interesting things I discovered just happened as I was writing the final paragraphs. I had one of my main characters give the other one a flower, which I realized several minutes later could actually be used to tie into one of the metaphors implicit in the title. My subconscious is just all over the place sometimes, it seems.
I also discovered some cool new bands and songs and whatnot, which totally helped and probably snuck into my novel in places. I'll need to reread it, of course. I seem to recall that writing this also taught me some other things about writing, myself, and life in general, but I can't really remember them because I'm a WEE BIT TIRED. But it was worth it. 8D
In a spontaneous burst of goodwill I have just donated some money to the NaNoWriMo people. Perhaps not the wisest thing to be doing this at whatever time it is now, but there you are.
