I dunno, you could do something like this to make any story seem simple. Take Lord of the Rings, an extremely complex and expansive mythos, for example:

Village full of little people

Little person goes with twelve dwarves and a wizard on an adventchur

Little people get gold from dragon and little person finds magic ring

Ring is evil

Little people meet some moar dwarves and elves and try to break ring

Gollum

Orcs fight people

Ring burns up

So... yeah <.<

Just because it can be summed up so easily doesn't make it so simple in the long run. That's not to say it's terribly deep or complex in the first place.
