Zahn - The Sci-fi Master

I read three of Timothy Zahn's short stories today:

The President's Doll (From the collection Time Bomb and Zahndry Others) Very interesting story. I didn't like the fact that they singled out Haita amongst other countries, though. Didn't do wonders for the crazy rumors about Hatians being evil that have spread through the US recently. Other than that, it was rather interesting overall. For those of you who haven't read it, in a nutshell it's a short story about the president being controlled by voodoo. I suggest you go buy it. It hasn't been in print for 20-30 years so check the Used books section of Amazon.

Guardian Angel (From the collection Distant Friends and Other Stories) Another well written story. It kinda lacked his usual twist at the end in my opinion, but it was good nonetheless. Mrs. Leiberman sounds just like my grandmother. :P Personally, I wish more organizations worked like that. To give you a taste on what this one is about, there's a business that has started creating invisible bodyguards for people. They've started distributing them to test subjects, primarily the elderly and the poor. However, a news reporter wants to expose the secret behind them and how they become invisible. A very good read.

Expanded Charter (From the collection Distant Friends and Other Stories) With just six pages, this would have to be my favorite story today. I had to reread once to figure out exactly what had happened. This story tells of a presidential assassination. I can't say much else without spoiling it. Like The President's Doll this has been out of print for a long time.

For people who are already familiar with Timothy Zahn's works, I need advice on what would be the best to read next:

  • Angelmass
  • Odd Girl Out
  • Cascade Point
  • Triplet
  • Deadman Switch
  • A Coming of Age

I just can't decide. :P

I've only read his Star Wars novels, which are superb.

I've already read all of his Star Wars ones. They were good, though Allegiance didn't seem to be in the same style he usually used for some reason.
