If they made the character actually look like something it would deduct from the amount of creativity one could pour into it. If the model was similar to the Barraki nine entries out of ten would have something to do with underwater creatures. If the model was similar to the Phantoka, the entries would probably all be about flying characters. Even basic color schemes like red or green would influence what the people entering would choose. Think about the recent combos. They all suggest a theme for the character. Because the Stars Combiner is so wild it allows for the character to be almost anything, with few limits on the creativity.
