Short Film Festival

Chunky!

A few days ago I went to the Canadian Film Centre Worldwide Short Film Festival with a friend. Most of the shorts we watched were 3-D animation, with like one in 2-D.

2 films stuck out in my mind: The Great Escape and this other one that I forgot the name.

The Great Escape was about a little weather icon that was stuck in a news channel and wanted to get to the viewer's living room. He ends up breaking into the TV and is chased by diodes, resistors, capacitors, etc. It was a very cute story and the surprise ending was very funny.

That other movie was about an old man trying to invent moving pictures with sound. His younger wife suggested adding more layers to give it colour. She ended up being the first person recorded on film. When her husband is finished, he calls her up to take a look. When she doesn't reply, the man runs downstairs to find her dead. At the end, the camera pans out of the city, and you see a paper boy yelling about some brothers that had invented moving pictures and sound first. The old man didn't get the patent quick enough because his wife died. Yep, this was a depressing film, but a good one.

What I find amazing about these films was that apparently, university students had created them.
