Some Perspective
Well, I got my Brickmaster today, and it included a Hero Factory little pamphlet thing, which gave me some inside info on the story. But I didn't think like I'd seen enough, so I took a little visit over to the theme's site on LEGO.com for more. Some of it intrigued me, I guess.
And sure, the feeling of newness, of beginning, it was cool; Mostly because it was nostalgic. I really badly wanted to get sucked up in that. I wanted to feel like I felt as a 6-year-old, back in 2001. And there was a glimmer of that, a little part of me who thought, "wow, this stuff is awesome!"
But I suppose I'm too grown up now. The storyline seemed so hackneyed, so lame. I wished so much that we could just get another BIONICLE world, one with nothing to it in the beginning but a name, if that. I didn't want a universe that connected back to our own planet. Hero robots fighting Bad-Guy robots, that was almost BIONICLE again, and that made me happy. But bring that to Planet Earth, and it all changed.
I loved the simplicity of the new beginning. I hated the initial story placement. I loved the feeling of nostalgia from something fresh. I hated the shallow cliches of the characters. I loved how it looked like BIONICLE revamped. I hated how it wasn't that. I loved some of the sets, hated others.
I guess we don't know what we've got 'till it's gone.
