Potter Back-to-back

Warning: There are spoilers for the new movie in this post. If you have not read Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows and/or watched the new movie, and do not wished to be spoiled, I suggest you go read something other than this blog entry.

So I went to the Harry Potter Exhibit on Tuesday, and last night my family and I went and saw Deathly Hallows Part 1. While I'm a little annoyed (peeved, you might say :P) that we have to wait until July for Part 2, I liked the adaptation, and considering the fact I've been falling out of love with the movies since the OotP one, that's a good thing. =D

Probably my favorite part was the 'Tale of Three Brothers' segment, which was completely computer-generated and in a shadow-play style -- very cool. It actually reminded me of The Nightmare Before Christmas, and I'd probably buy the DVD version just for that part.

Bellatrix is still awesome (and freaky), and while the deaths of Hedwig (*sob*) and Dobby were pretty sad, the latter had what I'd saw was the best line in the whole movie, after he drops the chandailer on Bellatrix in Malfoy Manor:

Bellatrix: You could've killed me!

Dobby: Dobby did not mean to kill ... only to maim, or seriously injure.

*everyone in the movie theater cracks up*

My brother complained about the scene when the locket Horcrux was destroyed, mainly about the appearences of the dark manifestations of Harry and Hermione (more specifically, what they were wearing ... or lack thereof ...), but I thought it was alright, with the giant black tower of power, and the spiders coming out of nowhere. >=D

My verdict? See the movie. Then prepare for July -- with the Battle of Hogwarts looming, all epicness should break loose. =D

I think this was the best Harry Potter movie so far, if only because of the fact that just about all of the scenes were too vital to the overall plot to be cut out. Which is why the fifth movie sucked; most of the memorably awesome scenes were not vital to the overall plot and were cut.

I noticed that the climax of the motorcycle ride and the escape from Godric's Hollow were not as intense as the book made them. In the first, the sidecar did not fall off, they didn't crash land into the Tonks' backyard, and Hagrid was completely conscious. In the second, Voldemort didn't even show up; it was like OH NO SNAKE O= and they blasted it and left after like ten seconds of silence.

I am SO GLAD they actually put Dobby in this movie. I was half expecting them to replace him with Neville like they persist in doing, including killing him off instead too. I think Dobby's my favorite character. Especially after his line. :P

I noticed that neither the Taboo nor the Diadem of Ravenclaw were mentioned, so I wonder how that's going to work out.

Oh, yes. This movie was actually really nice. I saw it opening night!

Anyway, I absolutely love the three brothers animation. It was portrayed exactly like it should have been, in my opinion. It was the perfect way to set the mood sort of grim, but not so grim that it would set the story off. I also liked where they cut it off, Voldemort taking the Elder Wand. It's the perfect thing to get you to want to see the next movie. And, yes, the scene with the locket was pretty awkward...
