  1. Thanks for the inspiration! I had had an older design that I liked but I couldn't really get to look right, mainly due to the Metru shoulder plates and lack of properly colored pieces. But I took your advice and played a bit with it. And of course, what's more Matoran than a Kolhii stick (which I always love to design)? Check him out in the link above.
  2. Easier to show then tell. I added two pics of their varying back structure. It really depends on what pieces were available. The only exception is the one with the flamethrower. His took a special structure. What I was really going for when I made these (like, years and years back, mind you) was to make a simplistic Matoran model that you could customize as you saw fit. If CCSB is what I think it is (Hero factory parts, right?), I made the basic model years before those even came out. These aren't "new" creations. They're something I found while I was cleaning out. (I could be wrong, but I think my very first prototype was trying to recreate a mahri-toran, but twelve year old me couldn't remember how, so I made my own.)
  3. Been a while since I've even looked at this forum, but I found some old Mocs while cleaning out that I thought I might as well post. I discovered an easy and fun way to make a (slightly taller) version of Matorans a while back and had some fun with variations on the design. Pretty sure they all use to have stories, but I hardly remember them now. Anyways, here's my, relatively simplistic, Matoran design. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/2j18l9fu7y3cbqg/AACBxSJ7ftmPjB-nNl6yIZ1ka?dl=0# Please excuse the poor camera angles.
  4. It was just for flash fiction, just a side writing, so no. And I'm sorry, it would probably be better if every time I submitted it it wouldn't mess up. I keep coming back and seeing that some punctuation or other thing got left out and have to go back and fix it.
  5. This is something I was planning on entering into the flash fiction contest, but I didn't get it done it time. Oh well, always next time. But I thought that I might as well post it to see what people think. Now, without further explanation... Broken Mask, Broken Mind Sand... for kios and kios... just sand Bright sunlight streams down on the Mata-Nui forsaken desert causing the sand to reply back with its own harsh light as if the sun and desert were in a continual struggle for who could shine brightest. In the middle of the bright desert, the only discernible figure was that of a Fe-Matoran. His armor shined nearly as bright as the desert itself in the harsh light of the sun, and his footprints in the sand went on for kios until they were no longer visible. He trudged on in the sand, ebbing his way forward slowly. "So tired," he mumbled to himself, "So.. so tired." How long had he been walking? It felt like forever. All he could remember was walking in this harsh, burning desert. Images swirled in his mind, images of what could be his past, but when he reached out to them, the effort just made him more tired. "So tired... must rest," he mumbled again, but his feet kept moving. Maybe this was all he had done. Maybe he had been made to wonder this desert forever, and even if he tried to stop, his feet would just keep moving. Finally he got his feet to slow enough to nearly stop. No! No, you cant give up! Keep fighting! A voice somewhere in the back of his head. How long had that been there? He thought he had heard it there before. Maybe it had been there for a while, urging him on, and he tuned it out. But it didnt much matter anymore. He was tired, and he wanted to rest. No! You have to keep pushing! Remember! Try to Remember! The Matoran was tired, but he obliged. He pushed against the boundaries around what was left of his mind. He reached out and clutched one of the images in his mind. The effort burned like fire, but he pushed anyways. He saw a village, crumbling, corrupted. Tall, hunched creatures with spines protruding from their deformed backs attacked. Each one was a different color and carrying a staff. Matoran ran screaming and tried to protect themselves. The strange intruders knocked them down one by one. Remembering hurt. The stress burned in his mind. Tiredness washed over him like a flood, drawing into a deep state of listlessness, but he had to keep trying. He had to push against it. He had to remember. He summoned what little strength remained of him to remember. The images were fuzzier this time. He was running towards a smaller figure... a Tur... Tur-something The strain pushing against his mind was enormous. Some part of him told him that he wouldnt last much longer, and that he needed to retain his strength for for something. That didnt matter though. He wanted to remember more than anything he had ever wanted in his life. He was running towards the figure... a flash of brown appeared before him... a bright flash and strong force... he was on his back in the sand, staring upwards... His face burned... He felt weak... an absence... He reached for his face... His mask had been shattered. The Matoran reached for his face. His mask was gone just as in his memory. But there was something more. One vital peace of information he was missing. What was he doing here? He delved once more into his memory. The pain was unbearable. He sat up... Village was... broken... He had to find... had to find... find His vision began to fade. His mind was blurred. That last word though. He needed to know it. What did he have to find? He pushed through the pain, through the unimaginable pain. "Help," He muttered. "Help." He felt his legs give out and a soft impact against the sand, dulled by his senselessness. He made one final move against his weariness and the burning in his skull just to move his head upwards. With all his might he mustered one final cry. "Help!"
  6. Man! Missed it. I had a good one too... Oh well. I'll just have to wait until the next one.
  7. "Trust you? That's like a Visorak saying 'Pet me.'"-Hakann"You don't know Matoran very well.""Sure I do. Whining little creeps always running to a Toa or Turaga when anything goes wrong — that's what Matoran are."-Garan and Vezok"You Toa are all alike - all mewling morons."-Zaktan"That was a long fall down the mountain. Long climb back up, too. It's an experience you shouldn't miss. How about I throw you over the side, Thok, and see how many times you bounce? Won't that be fun?"-Reidak to ThokMost of the best insults come from the Pirika
  8. Ooh, close competition. I think I'll vote for 1. I really like the the dark red and black color scheme. I've used it myself a lot.
  9. It is unclear when Krakua really became a Toa. All Biosector says on the subject is that 5 years ago he had a run in with Mazeka and Vultraz and then was inducted into the order of Mata Nui and he "recently" became a Toa. The vision actually seems to transcend time as it has yet to happen. His Biosector page, if you don't believe me, is right here. So it is really debatable who became a Toa first.
  10. a couple questions just popped into minds, though I don't know if they all fit into this topic, about Toa of psionicsCan they read the minds of things like rahi and animals?don't they in some ways control electromagnetic waves since that's what brains emit and use to function? And since they can read both Spherus Magnian's and Matoran's, does that mean Matoran have organic minds?
  11. Life or Death. Why could it never be just life or death anymore? No, now every move the Toa made had to be an issue of morality. It was not like the Toa were strangers to fighting, just to war, and it was war that the Makuta were waging all across the universe. To Toa Tikan, the answer seemed clear enough: kill any and all Makuta you could, they deserved it for betraying the universe. But for some reason, that answer wasn’t as clear to Tikan’s team leader, Kholtane, who saw everything philosophically. And what to do with a Makuta was just the problem facing the Northern Continent Toa team. In a recent battle against one of the Makuta’s legions of Rakshi, Toa Jubar had somehow weaved through the army of Rakshi and incapacitated the leading Makuta and captured him. Now the only issue was what to do with him now that they had him. Tikan wanted to execute him for his crimes, but Kholtane wanted to give him a fair trial.“To Karzahni with him,” argued Tikan, banging his fist on the stone table, “He’s a traitor to Mata Nui himself and deserves death.”“Calm yourself Tikan,” Kholtane said, attempting to sooth Tikan, “He is an inhabitant of the Matoran Universe, and his species was created especially by Mata Nui which entitles him to a fair trial.”“But that only makes his crimes even worse,” Tikan combated, “They were created to protect, as we were, and if one of us had committed the same acts he had-““They would be given a fair trial,” Cahni butted in. She was a seasoned Toa of water who had been on the team as long as anyone else. She was like Kholtane, never accepting a black and white answer, always having to think everything out meticulously. “We should hear his reasons, and we may be able to learn more about the Brotherhood’s plans.”“You honestly think that he will give us any information?” Tikan asked. “He’s a master of deception. He won’t tell us anything.”“We have to at least give him a chance,” Cahni said.“Like the chance he gave to all the villages he’s destroyed?”“I agree,” called Hyut. He was a Toa of magnetism who had just recently joined the team after his Koro had been destroyed. “They’ve decimated almost half of the island and shown no remorse, why should we extend to them any more courtesy?”“Hyut, aren’t you a little biased in this matter?” Cahni asked.Kholtane raised his hand to quiet her. “Hyut, with your past with the Makuta, do you believe that you are truly fit to have a valid argument in this debate?”“You mean how they destroyed my Koro?” Hyut answered. “Then are we not all biased? They’ve attacked our villages, our continent, and our blasted universe! How can you even think about letting them get away with that?”“We are not talking about giving all members of the Brotherhood of Makuta instant forgiveness for their deeds when caught; we are talking about what to do with this Makuta.”“Let him rot!”“Calm down, Hyut,” Kholtane said, “there is one aspect that we have not considered in our discussion, the Toa Code.”Tikan let out a sigh. It always came to the Toa Code, that old fashioned set of laws place to govern Toa’s conduct back when the universe was at peace.“A sigh, Tikan?” Cahni raised her eye line. “Surely our governing law doesn’t mean so little to you.”“Excuse me sister for not celebrating when that old fashioned guideline for conduct is brought up.”“Old fashioned?” it was Kholtane’s turn to raise an eye line. “I assure you that the Toa Code is no more old fashioned than when the first Toa used it, or the Toa after them, or the Toa after them.”“But the Code has no instructions on how a Toa is to act when a he or she is at war, nor does it pertain to how a Toa is to treat their prisoners.”“But it’s very first point is not to murder any species of any kind,” Cahni added.“But the Toa Code also has no laws on what to do with someone who has committed as many atrocities as the Makuta have.”“The point of the Toa Code,” Kholtane pointed out, “is not to nitpick over everything it does and doesn’t cover, but to tell us how we are to act.” There was a long, intense silence between the two factions that had formed in the once unified group of Toa. “Now,” Kholtane said quietly, “we still have to put this to a vote. Cahni what is your opinion?”“We should give him a fair trial, but it may I make a suggestion?”“Go ahead.”“We should let the Turaga preform it, as we are apparently too biased to preform it ourselves,” she said, giving a glance toward Tikan and Hyut.“Considered. Now Tikan, your suggestion?"“Execute him! He has willfully preformed treachery against the entire universe!”“Please keep any opinions of the subject to yourself. Hyut?”“I agree with Tikan, execute the traitor!”“Understood. And of course my answer is to give him a fair trial. Now Jubar, you’ve been unusually quiet, and you were the one who captured him, what is your vote?”Jubar leaned forward on the stone table, resting his head on top of his folded hands. “Both the arguments do have fair points,” he started, “but I believe the final and most important point is the Toa code which states that we are not to kill, so my vote must be to give him a fair trial.”“What?” Hyut blurted out, “You of all people should know-““Hyut,” Kholtane interrupted him, “He has made his vote, and that’s three to two. Fair trial.”“Fine,” Hyut said, jumping out of his seat. “Have all the trials you want! I will have no part of it!” With that he stormed out of the room.“Hyut, Hyut!” Kholtane called after him. “Meeting dismissed,” he said, and then went after Hyut.Unfortunately, the trial was never performed, for that night another legion of Rakshi lead by Makuta Gorast raided the city, destroying everything, not sparing anyone, Matoran or Toa. It’s a shame too, because that could have changed the outcome of the war, for the captured Makuta’s name was Krika.
  12. started watching... then they started talking, doing stuff, and other junk and I just left
  13. But I enjoyed this story very much overall, good job! Thanks, fixed it. That's what I get for writing at 11 at night. but seriously , how did I miss that?
  14. A small story about a Matoran's reaction to becoming a ToaLapaka looked down at his new form. His mask was different, his kolhii stick had become something of a kolhii staff, and he had grown about two feet. He was no longer a Matoran, he was a full-fledged Toa! Excitement almost overwhelmed him when a small groan shook him out of his energy driven frenzy. He looked down at a the once great form of the Toa of Stone, Toa Pekhan, now shrunken into the form of a Turaga."Greetings new Toa,” He said in an older, and seemingly wiser, voice.”New Toa?” Lapaka looked down again. Suddenly all the new responsibility he would have now donned on him with a sudden realization that he was now a protector. “No,” He shook his head softly, “No, no, no!” He shook his head more vigorously. “No! I can’t be a Toa! I’m not cut out for it!” ”But you are, Toa Lapaka,” Pekhan said, trying to reassure him, “The Great Spirit divined you to be one.” ”No, I’m not! I don’t like responsibility! Take it back!” Lapaka yelled. ”I cannot take back what I gave you,” Pekhan chuckled, “It was a gift.” ”More like a curse,” Lapaka grumbled. “Did you get tired of protecting us or something? Did you just decide to pick the most unsuited Matoran and pass your responsibility to him?” ”No,” Pekhan said softly, not apparently angry at the accusations. ”Not at all. I loved being a Toa, and so will you, but my time has past as Mata Nui chose and your time has come.” ”But why me? Why not one of the responsible Matoran? Why not Lojel or Kareh, they’ve always been reliable.” ”Because Mata Nui chose you,” he said calmly. ”But how do you know it was me? How do you know he chose me?” Pekhan motioned toward the dark night sky. “Look at the stars,” He said. “You see that one directly above me?” Lapaka nodded. “It’s dimming, meaning it was my time to step down as Toa, but you see that one?” He motioned towards the brightest star in the sky above them. ”It’s right above me,” Lapaka said, realizing that Pekhan was right, and he had been destined. “Well Mata Nui made a mistake,” He said, refusing to believe it. ”Mata Nui doesn’t make mistakes.” ”But I have no idea how to be a Toa.” ”I’ll teach you all you need to know.” ”But, but…” ”You’ve run out of excuses.” ”It can’t be right.” Lapaka sat down and put his head in his hands. ”It was right,” Pekhan put an arm over Lapaka’s shoulder. “Your argument just proved it. You were afraid of responsibility and ill-preparedness, most Matoran are over taken with the new power and pay no attention to their responsibility. That shows that you are ready to be a Toa. I will teach you myself what you need to know. Now come, lets introduce the Matoran to their new protector." Pehkan stood up and reached a hand down to Lapaka. Lapaka took it timidly and followed Turaga Pehkan back to the Koro and a new destiny he had never considered.
  15. Yes they do. Though mostly in unconventionally ways, they need the nutrition for their organic components.
  16. Which is pretty much the same thing as what I said. You have to consider that the Unity Duty Destiny wasn't originally a set of morals, more like how Matoran were to operate. Unity referred to the fact they could do more work together than alone, Duty meant that they had to do their work. And Destiny was what their final job that they had to work to. And they've worked to their final purpose, reuniting Spherus Magna
  17. But the thing is Matoran isn't simply another language, its a programming language, so is there a reason for two versions, or did it happen after the Matoran gain sentience? And if it happened after sentience, do the variations still have programmable value?
  18. There were two versions? Toa Inika communicated with Voyatoran just fine.True, but they had two different styles of writing the language, which was the point I'm making. If it's a programming language, then why were there two distinct versions of it?
  19. Wow, two topics in the same night?I was just wondering, since the MU is destroyed and Mata Nui no longer has soveriegn control over the former inhabitants, do Toa have set Destinies any more? It's appearent that Mata Nui had manipulated the destinies of Toa in the same way he had control over how they were created. The last documented case of Toa becoming Turaga were the Toa Metru, who Mata Nui had planned for them to save the Matoran. All the other Toa have remained Toa even after achieving their appearent destinies like the Mahri and Nuva. They should be Turaga by now.The Nuva were made specifically to be emergency back up Toa if Mata Nui were to have something catastrophic happen, but now Mata Nui's body is gone and everything is at peace, so they should be Turaga by now.The Mahri were created by the red star to save the Mata Nui from dying, but they saved him, and he's gone, meaning they should also be Turaga. In fact, since the entire MU is shut down, haven't all Toa achieved their ultimate destinies? To see Mata Nui achieve his mission, so shouldn't all Toa be Turaga's?I think it's rather obvious that Mata Nui set the destinies into the Toa when they are created, but as he fell deeper into sleep, he lost control of setting destinies which means he could make the Toa Metru become Turaga because he had it set into them, but had no control over the Mahri to make them Turaga once their destiny was complete.my final question is, if my theory is correct, and since the MU is shut down, does destiny apply any longer?
  20. It has been long known that Matoran is a programming language, but my question is why are there two variations of it? The Metru Nui version and the Voya Nui version. Were they always that way, or did they slowly drift in form after the Matoran gain of Sentiency?
  21. I think he's refering to the reprogramming of MU species to speak agori. It probably would only apply to Matoran speaking species.
  22. I say the Nuva should've already turned into Turaga, but hey thats just me. They have obviously already fufilled their destiny, maybe they just need to sacrifice their Toa energy.Edit: Actually, if you think about it, Mata Nui creates Toa and decided their destinies (e.g. Toa Metru to protect the Matoran), so it could be possible that any Toa still existant will never have to become Turaga unless they choose to.
  23. If you ask me, it would seem like Mata Nui tried to emulate a planets eco system, possibly to help him understand more about Spherus Mangian society. That would explain why he made more species than that which he was originally provided with. It would also explain why he charged the Makuta with making animalistic rahi. Possibly a pinocchio complex...It would also explain why the GBs would play with the blade burrowers to make the Unity Duty Destiny symbole. Baisically to tell him to stop making random species and get back to work.Edit: Oh, and one more thing problem it could solve, why the Matoran gained sentiency, Mata Nui wanted a more realistic society.
  24. I think Skakdi have this ability, but choose to eat with their mouths. Correct me if I'm wrong, however.Yes, the Skakdi choose to eat with their mouths because it is seen as repulsive and frightening. Source. Species of Spherus Magna all eat and drink using their mouths, as was mentioned multiple times in the books set on Bara Magna.Further, absorbing energy directly from food is not actually necessary for most Matoran, as there were "feeding points" for Matoran to recharge (like batteries) yearly. Source. There is another interesting question that arises when we do not allow for eating and replace it instead with "energy absorption": How do the inhabitants of the Matoran Universe obtain nutrients for their biological components? I've posited that many of the necessary elements for compounds of nutrients come from the air, and there are simply many processes that make these basic molecules into the more complex organic compounds necessary. This may not allow for very much in the way of nutrients, but MU inhabitants are only about 15% organic, so they don't really need too much.~ BioGioMore than likely from the food. They would use the food to give nutrients to their organic parts, but get a yearly recharge to charge the rest.
  25. So wait, your giving him a key for baisically explaining everything I've said on this topic? gees, does anyone read my posts...Baisically the only thing he said different from what I said is that he added the word Virus which would only effect the armor if it was, like I've said, ORGANIC. That is literally the only explanation left other than the nano bots which, let's face it, is a huge longshot, especially since their are several species made with Protodermis that do grow and do mate in the MU.
