In the world of entertainment, something is better if the percentage of people who like it is greater than the percentage that doesn't like it. In other words, it comes down to the opinion of the majority.
That's an appeal to false authority. Just because the general public believes something doesn't mean it's correct.

I could say it's my opinion that staring at manure is a form of entertainment.
-
Yeah, I feel that way sometimes.
People do have common tastes. We hate the smell of manure for example (well, everyone except my neighbor....). That can't be proven with logic though. I think science of how our brains work could probably prove that we have common tastes, but since I'm not a neurologist I can't prove it.

Actually, I just thought of a good example. Mathematical proofs. A correct and elegant proof is always beautiful to people who understand it.
And if you say that that's not entertainment, I could always say that it's my opinion that mathematics is entertaining.

I'd say things in entertainment are not all equal. People do have common tastes, though they can be VERY different. There are philosophies about this sort of thing, like aesthetics. Using only logic, I don't think it's possible to prove this though. Scientifically you might be able to.

I seem to be having some problems with Blender 2.49b (32-bit version) on my Windows 7 64-bit machine . I can't seem to add materials properly . Other than that, everything is coming along nicely.

That's what I just said.
Back to common tastes, wouldn't everybody agreeing on something no longer make it an opinion but rather a fact?
