How on earth am I going to get this done I don't even know. I've had a lot of bad homework nights but the sheer slowness of understanding and summarizing history makes tonight take the cake.

    AP/IB testing season is rough.

We're taking the AP tests at my church, though, so I think that entails some sort of home team advantage?

Put a marshmallow on chocolate chips on a Ritz cracker. Microwave until the marshmallow engulfs everything else. Consume.

    (Also semi-nostalgic MOC topic)

So it actually snowed last night, so we get a second day of postponement of exams. Instead of extra studying I decided to try out this Metroid thing everyone's talking about. And... It's really good. The controls aren't as satisfying platforming-wise as they could be, but otherwise it's a really fun game. I haven't made much progress, and I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be accomplishing, but who needs goals? I just got some Super Missiles and that's enough for me.

I have a couple hours before senior quotes are due. I'm thinking one of the following:

    "Tingle Tingle, Kooloo-Limpah!" -Tingle

"Whenever there is a meeting, a parting is sure to follow. However, that parting need not last forever... Whether a parting be forever or merely for a short time... That is up to you." -Happy Mask Salesman

Thoughts? Suggestions? Better Zelda or Bionicle quotes?

This is probably a dangerous thing to ask for, but here goes.

Summer break is coming, which bodes well for by gaming career. I'm trying to keep track of games I'm playing or want to play so as to better allocate time and funds. I've added a nifty content block to the right to keep tabs on these things.

Obviously it's a little Nintendo-centric, and even within Nintendo there are a few franchises which I've never tried. I need suggestions as to what games would best introduce me to franchises and even systems which I've never played. What's the quintessential Fire Emblem or Final Fantasy? What's the short list of must-play Playstation or Xbox games? What(cheap/old) non-Nintendo system will be me access to the most impactful Playstation/Xbox games? PC games?

Only caveats is that I'm not looking for competitive or mostly-multiplayer games, and I'm relatively conservative as far as violent/suggestive content goes.

I told myself I wouldn't buy any Amiibos.

But I bought Link. Just for when I got Hyrule Warriors, you know? And Zelda, because he looks lonely. And I'll have to get Toon Link, Sheik and Ganondorf, just to complete the Zelda collection.

    But that's it. No more.

    Although PAC-Man is my main.

And there's not a lot of affordable Earthbound things on the market.

And... NO. NINTENDO WHAT HAVE YOU DONE.

Recommend me some. Anything--modern, 'classic,' ancient, whatever genre.

I tend gravitate towards fantasy/sci-fi, but I'm eager to expand that as well. but I've added a threadbare books sidebar that mostly just reflects my plans to reread some of my favorite fantasy/sci-fi series this summer, but I also want some new things.

Real talk, though. I feel guilty about how little I read nowadays. Up until a couple years ago I read in every spare moment. How much I read was a problem sometimes. Books are a brilliant and astonishingly immersive and thought-provoking and I love them. And then:
It stopped being convenient to peruse a library every day
I started talking with people during times I would usually read during
I got a portable gaming device
I discovered Zelda and the the world of really good, impactful video games
    Dungeons & Dragons
    Academics got time-intensive
I got a smartphone and can now waste time very easily

Most of these are good things, except that not hanging out in the library is a pity, and much of the time I spend on my phone I really do think is wasted and would be better spent reading (or, you know, doing homework).

Yet, I don't think books are inherently more meritorious than other types of media. I don't regret any of the time I've spent playing or re-playing games, or planning/playing D&D. Videogames and tabletop RPGs have certain unique merits and unique ways of making me think and experience. The problem is, after discovering those things, I miss the reading experience and its unique merits. I am, in fact, nostalgic for the days when I read exclusively, without any real devotion to videogames or D&D.

Also games tend to not expand my vocabulary and impact my syntax as much books, which makes me feel like a less intelligent individual. Which is silly.

Also there's the balance of experiencing new books/games and participating in communities. I love being part of communities, but when every minute spent on a forum is a minute I'm not broadening my reading/playing experience, I feel conflicted.

Also there's this thing where entertainment stops becoming entertainment and starts being an obligation. Which is weird.

    Also.

    Also also.

Ultimately, the biggest factor is not my distribution of free time between different activities, but rather a decrease in available free time. Which is unavoidable.

tl;dr I don't read as much as I used to, I don't have the backlog of books I want to read that I usually do, recommend some books.

So I commented on this great post by Aanchir and realized, first, I wrote a lot, probably more text than my last couple months of BZP activity combined. Second, it would make a decent post here.

    So.

I'm all nostalgic now. The Rahksi and Vahki were just so cool.

It's hard enough to stop distracting myself and get down to work on actual assignments, but studying? That's so vague and with such indeterminate benefits it's nigh impossible focus on.

In related news, this week is AP Psych and IB Physics test, next week is the symposium that's my one big extracurricular thing, and the week after are the (late) APUSH and AP Calc AB exams.

Then there's one week of regular school, in which I hope to complete Super Metroid, and on the 30th I'll get myself that Mario Kart 8 bundle and no-life Wind Waker HD.

All things told, I'm much less stressed than others I know and have some awesome games to look forward to. Life is pretty OK.

    Stab wound.

It's by no means the most dangerous. It's not the most OP. But even if other cards completely destroy you, turning that one creature you got out into a time bomb with no way of getting rid of it is probably as infuriating as it gets. You can't even voluntarily sacrifice the creature or anything, you just hope you opponents takes out the creature it's on.

    GEAR FUNCTIONS!

    Onya looks good with purple!

    Onya's giant shoulder/hammer parts!

What if Onua had actually been changed to Onya, a female Master to even out the genders?

    GEAR FUNCTIONS!

I'm going to buy one, the question is, when?

I don't feel any urgency at all. The big driving reason to get one would be Zelda U, and that's presumably significantly in the future. I have other really great games to play in the meanwhile- I still have to finish Super Metroid, I want to play Super Mario World, I want to get Ocarina of Time 3D at some point (I don't care if that's before or after Wii U). I don't have ton of time for games right now, nor will I have as much time for games this summer as I would like. So there's no rush, I'll take the Wii U games whenever's most convenient.

I'm definitely getting Mario 3D World and Wind Waker HD; Mario Kart 8 looks great; DK Tropical Freeze and New Super Mario Bros U are appealing but not as tempting as the others.

So my issue is: what bundle will be the most worth it? The Wind Waker HD bundle nets me the game I most want to play, and a sweet Zelda Wii U (a very tempting perk).

The upcoming Mario Kart bundle, for thirty extra dollars, nets me a Wii plus controller and basically a free Wind Waker HD, but the system isn't the sweet Zelda one and the controller is a goofy Mario one.

Or I could hold out for the probable Zelda U bundle and place my lot with it for better or worse.

    So... Suggestions?
