Investing in something to this caliber without any permission is flat out stupid. If lego won't even release an old canceled game,LOMN, what makes them think that that would approve this? I was under the impression that they DID have permission.

But how do you know they have asked permission from LEGO? Do you have proof?
    No, I just assumed it.

Allow me to restate what I have said above:

PrismWind, I know you really are supportive of the Solis Magna group, but I don't think you should go by assumptions. I would suggest asking the person over the Mata Nui Collectors Edition project whether he/she has had permission from LEGO and/or Templar Studios.

Plus, I don't think this should be in BIONICLE Discussion at all. It is not an official LEGO product and it is being made by fans.

  4. Listen: I seriously doubt that they would work on and release something that they could get sued over. Assuming that they already have some form of permission from TLG and Templar, then I wouldn't really worry about the legality of this situation. Otherwise it probobly wouldn't be the smartest nice in the world...

    *move in the world

I don't know about that. LEGO once foxed a fanmade recreation of LEGO Uninverse one time and it was freeware. If they could take down something that was free to play, then they would have no qualms about ceasing a recreation of a famous BIONICLE game that you have to pay for.

I would still buy it. I realized the second I first saw it that it would be illegal. So long as we keep this "quiet" I doubt that it will end in some huge legal issue. If lego did see it then they would probobly sue. The thing is though, I doubt this hasn't crossed the minds of the people in charge of the project, and I doubt that they would even attempt this unless they had some sort of deal going on. The fact that some former Templar employees are working with them shows that they must have an agreement. Still, lego is rather "stingy" with this sort of thing, just look at LOMN. If this gets canceled then I would probobly have some sort of brake down. :3

I'm pretty sure that making a topic saying, "I can't wait for the Mata Nui Collectors Edition!" isn't keeping it secret. Plus, even if we did keep quite until the game is released, LEGO might fox it out eventually sometime after it is released.

NOT ONLY THAT, but I hope you realize, PrismWind, that BZPower is partnered with Lego so posting it here if you hope to keep it quiet probably isn't the wisest idea. :P

Also, SM stands for SolisMagna, the group that is responsible for this project as well as other interesting shenanigans.

Agreed. Now I think it's okay for them to make custom bionicle sets that you can buy, seeing as others have done the same with just standard LEGO elements. But a full-scale game? The chances are too slim for that to happen. The only way of saving it would be if it became freeware or if it was down right canceled.

  7. ^To summarize Eljay's post in rhyming terminology:

    You want to sell MNOG?

    It's a pretty nice thought,

    'Cept for the fact

MNOG never had to be bought,

    Makin' cash off the game,

    Man, that ain't cool,

    The game was always free,

So you'd be lookin' like a fool,

    I'm not even gonna mention

    All the copyright stuff,

    Overcoming all those hurdles

    Would be pretty tough,

    It's a nice gesture, SM,

But you don't want Lego to sue ya,

You should, instead, sell by itself,

    The custom Takua!

    Who's SM?

  8. This page wasn't finished--the server went down while I was working on it. EDIT: Finished now!

Thank you for the explanation. Now that it has a description, I can really see the elements of the 2007 BIONICLE Playsets in its design. Once again, great work on the mech!

  9. I really like theme you're going with for this MOC. The design is great and has a nice scrapyard feel, much like Akavakaku has stated above me. But there is one flaw, however. The trans-green piece(the gutpit I assume) looks awkward and out of place to me. Overall, you did a great job and you should be proud of your creation even if you lose the BBC contest.

  10. Your overall MOC design looks stunning, especially the legs and the launcher-which is my personal favorite because your use of Toa Inikia chest armor. Though, I would suggest giving a brief backstory on the mech's association with Kalmah. At first glance I didn't see what it had to do with the Barraki warlord before I did some thinking. Other than that, it's a really good MOC and you should be proud of yourself for building this masterpiece.

Zakarath is as a whole a vast improvement on the original, but I must say I prefer the lower legs on the original more; the gold doesn't quite match the other gold, which I'd imagine was a big factor for changing it, but it has a nicer shape than the Metru foot attached to the Piraka leg does. The lower arms are similarly distracting, but not to the same extent. I love the use of blades all over, though. The stickers are a nice touch, too. The idea of using stickers on pieces they weren't intended for has never occurred to me.

The biggest improvement on Hakeahu to me is the torso. The original almost feels rectangular, while the revamped torso has much better shaping. The lower legs are an excellent use of the HF 2010 leg cladding, a piece I thought almost unusable. The hands are good, though it appears the thumb still comes from the center of his palm, which is a minor annoyance. The shoulders are good on both the original and the revamp, but on the revamp you managed to improve upon them excellently. tbh I couldn't tell what the mustache was until you said it was a mustache, but it's an interesting touch.

Excellent work! I don't think I've ever posted in one of your MOC topics before but your MOCs have always been an inspiration to me.

Thanks for the detailed critique! First of all, I agree with you that the Sir Danju armor pieces from the old Zakarath are very nicely shaped, but the slightly different gold color just stood out too much to me after a while. That's why I stuck with the pearl light gold pieces on his lower arms, even though they bulge, and with the black Toa Metru feet on his thighs, even though they could use more gold. But I'm glad that you like my use of the cut Chima stickers to add a little more gold.

As for Hakeahu version 2, I tried to be creative for his lower legs, and I think it pretty much worked. Also, you are right about his body -- it is an immense improvement over the original. (Rubber band holders were a bad idea on the old version, I admit.)  His hands are not particularly realistic, to be sure, but I could not for the life of me get him to hold that axe with his thumb attached in a more realistic way (to the side of his palm, with the socket piece facing upward). And yes, I am glad that you approve of Hakeahu's Dali 'stache.  :P

Finally, I am flattered that you have found my MOCs to be a source of inspiration, so many thanks! ^_^ Normally I'm the one who says that line to LEGO mavens like retinence, Roa McToa, and Darth Vader.

I must say that these are some pretty epic titan MOCs you have made. I adore Zakarath overall and consider him near flawless. I love the use of the Irnakk spine and I'd also to congratulate you on even simply owning this rare gem.  Hakeahu looks great in his overall design, but I think the weapon he had back when he was in original form looked better on him. In the end, Ballom, you have outdid yourself and have made some fantastic titans.

Why thank you! I couldn't agree more: Irnakk was a lovely set with an awesome recolor on the Thok spine. But what is it that you find off-putting about Hakeahu's new axe? Is it the new pommel, or the spiked top, or the thicker head?

    ~B~

Oh, my bad. I thought you had changed out Hakeahu's axe for a broad sword. Seeing that it is now an axe, it is beautifully designed. Once again, sorry for my misconception.

  12.

I like the technique of using the limb pieces to form the sides of the torso. I can never come up with a design myself that I find satisfying, but yours is decent.

I am personally reminded much more of Whenua than of Onua, which is probably because of the Kanohi and the use of his drills in the weapon.

Oh shoot I meant Whenua not onua. Lol thanks for pointing that out, ill fix it right away. Erm, can you tell me how to change the title of a post?

I suggest you talk to an admin about that. I think they're the only ones that can rename topics from my understanding.

  13. I love your concept! As a fan of prehistoric life, I think there should be more BIONICLE MOCs of prehistoric animals and I'm glad to see another one made! The head design when he's in dinosaur is pretty good, but I don't really see how a thoranx launcher resembles a ceratopsain beak. The use of the upside down Metus torso and the placement of the ceratopsain head when he is in his humanoid form looks very awkward compared to when he's in his dinosaur form. Overall, his Dinosaur form is great, but his humanoid form needs some work.

  14. Now I love your attention to the books by giving his mech two flame swords, but I feel the Av-Matoran torso looks crooked and the gold Gahlok Kal shield appears out of place among a creation whose armor is mostly silver. Ether way, keep up the good work!

  15. I'm pretty sure the reason the Toa Mata's golden masks were the shape of their original masks by default is that when each Toa got their second mask, their original mask was the first to be transported back to their Suva (at least, judging from page 16 of the first comic). So once the final mask was brought to the Toa Suva, the golden mask would assume the shape of the first mask it was in contact with.

The transformation of the golden masks into Kanohi Nuva could have been a matter of the masks "remembering" which mask had been the first collected, or it could have just been because destiny thought that those were the masks the Toa Nuva ought to have.

As for why the mask powers got downgraded by the Toa Mata's transformation into Toa Kaita... no telling.

Could have been similar to the adaptive armor. According to BZ01, if the Toa Nuva in their Adaptive Armor formed a fusion it would not have the armor that its components wore. So the same might be the case with the Golden Kanohi.

  16.

I have an idea if anyone wishes to hear it. Since Kraata have levels to them in the BIONICLE story, how about a feature in the game wherein order to make your Rahkshi more powerful you have to rank up on experience points to progress to a higher level. I don't know if you'll consider this for the game, but this is just a suggestion to give uniqueness among the playable species.

I've considered experience points and levels in the past, but they won't be making an appearance in this game. Since it is meant as a multiplayer fighting game, every player will have every character, power, equipment item and stat point unlocked from the get-go. :)

Thank you for looking over my idea! I'm not really supportive of having all the items being unlocked, but it's nothing I strongly oppose.

I hardly ever trudge into Storyline and Theories, but there's still more than enough activity here to keep me coming back. The News Discussion, BIONICLE Discussion, Hero Factory Discussion, and LEGO Discussion subforums are where I spend most of my time here.

You make a good point about the lack of LEGO Movie discussion, though. *goes to make a LEGO Movie–related topic*

I believe that there is still hope for getting large amounts of activity on BZP. We just aren't advertising enough and don't have something to reel in crowds of people.

But do we really want or need "large amounts of activity"? All BZPower really needs in order to remain sustainable is for more users arriving or becoming active than leaving or becoming inactive. Of course, promoting the site better and drawing in new members will help with that as well. But treating BZPower's old levels of activity as the threshold for success might not be ideal.

Fair enough. So should we advertise just a little bit to gain a few, new, active users to the site? Ether way, I'm fine with whatever keeps the site running the way it is. I really have liked it here.
