    This place is still around? Awesome.
     
    Hi, guys. What's up?
     
    Haven't been around here in awhile. So much going on, it's like real life has become my actual life, hahaha. But no, I actually thought I would just check in, drop by, say hi, and add a few words to the conversation regarding life and the grand meaning of everything.
     
    You know. That conversation.
     
    OK, well, put it this way: I started writing this in my head at 3 a.m. and decided I would actually sit down and do it. So here I am.
     
    Bionicle is dead, long live Bionicle... IN OUR HEARTS, MAN. PEACE.
     
    It was a good thing. It brought us together and inspired us to do things that, looking back, we're really glad we had the chance to do. I have no regrets, whatsoever. Thank you, thank you, thank you, to everyone who was involved. It was a wonderful opportunity to explore an imaginary world together, create cool things, and have a whole bunch of good times.
     
    And it lives on, truly, as long as any of us are alive. More than a few of us are still around, feeling it, still using what it gave us to create cool new things. Lord knows I've not been so active on that front now, but I am still here, and I do feel it. I make stuff, slowly perhaps, but the satisfaction I get from it has yet to fade away. I still hesitate to call what I do “art,” but only because of the self-importance conjoined to that term. I enjoy building. That's all.
     
    People, why are we here? Think about it. I know for a fact that you're here because you want to be here. If you wanted to be elsewhere, then why would you be here?
     
    Oh, I am that clever. Stick me with the fork that's not a spoon, 'cause there's no spoon here, just bendy thought-stuff, but don't do it yet, 'cause I'm not quite done, just getting warmed up here.
     
    Ahroooooooooo! Make me howl, dog.
     
    What the dickens is going on out there? Have you ever seen a world so crazy? Yeah, and it's crazier than you think. You know what Einstein said about the universe and human stupidity. The only two things that were infinite, and he wasn't too sure about the former. Well, I'm not here to point out the obvious. Or to push anything on you that wouldn't do you any good to begin with. Like cynicism. Because cynicism is sabotage – and why would you want to do that?
     
    They say the world's coming to an end? Let me tell you a secret: the world ends more times in a second than there are video frames in a season of, I dunno, pick a show. House MD. (cause i'm addicted to house. friggin' awesome show. also, game of thrones. my god, you have not lived until you've seen that show. heaven can wait, trust me. just watch the show.) So what are you worried about? Life is a game, where you can either win, or die. Except that you can't win. So... you make your time count for something besides winning. Because whatever prize you've got in your sights, I guarantee you it's not what you really wanted once you've got it. There is no prize. No winners. No losers. Just you and me and the whole shebang, going on and changing all the time. Actors on the stage, like the playwright said. It's just a big show.
     
    Do you get to choose your role, or is it preordained? Well, I haven't seen the script. Maybe it gets made up as we go. Maybe the whole concept of a linear plot is just our minds' desperate attempt to make sense of a higher-dimensional reality that's beyond our ability to comprehend. An illusion for the purpose of simplification. I like to think that.
     
    So what really matters? What's the secret? Well, gosh. I don't know. And how could I ever tell you if I did? Besides... it's a secret. But, I can try to give you a hint. Here. If you look at what you do with your life, you'll see what matters to you in actual, manifest terms. And if you ask yourself, deep down, what really matters... well, somewhere in there is the answer to that. If there's any kind of secret, it's to make those two match up. Best of luck; I'm nowhere near that stage – and I doubt I'll ever be.
     
    See what happens when you dig so deep? It's all in your mind, and it's all questions. Forget it. There's a simpler way.
     
    Live your life. Be who you are. I guarantee you that'll get you where you're going. And if part of who you are is to ask all those tough questions, then that's what you've gotta do. Love what you do. Do it with all you've got. Please. The world needs that.
     
    OK, that's all I got. Have a totally weird two thousand twelve. I have, so far. It's fun. (Except when it's not. But that goes without saying, so I won't say it.)

    Those who already get it, get it; those who don't, probably won't even read it. Do I care? Depends what you mean by "care." But straight up? No, I don't. A. It's kids playing with toys, and B. you can't change people and it's hopeless to try. So... accept it, care not, move on.
     
    That said, Jen's rant did spark something on this end of things. A long-neglected "feminine" MOC-in-progress was dusted off and looked over with a critical eye. The age-old issue in question is a non-issue in this case, but oh my goddess, what flaws I did espy! Am I really that clueless about basic humanoid proportions, or have I just been too lazy to try? Guh. Well, it's back to the drawing board. Just like always, I build it and take it apart, build it and take it apart, until I pronounce the work finished to the best of my ability.

    (I don't own a TV; I scavenged the box from the trash last week, for painting on. Makes a nice backdrop for Gali in the meantime. Yeah, it's Full HD, ten-eighty-P.     In other bricking news, the flying saucer pod MOC is almost done, pending a couple of parts orders I just made today. So pretty soon I might be paying your town a visit in my SHINY PURPLE SAUCER POD. Yeah. Forget wheels, anti-gravity is where it's at!

    So Happy Right Now...

    Today was my birthday. I turned 26. My day was blessed with many wonderful surprises. I feel so fortunate to have so much love and abundance in my life. Sure, I had to hold back part of my rent this month to be able to eat, but that doesn't change the fact that I am provided for materially with everything I need to sustain and enjoy life. The outpouring of good wishes for my birthday from acquaintances, friends, and loved ones has made me feel truly rich. I am amazed at how many good things have been coming into my life recently: new friends, new activities, new outlooks, new levels of insight, even solid prospects for work and education. The past year as a whole has transformed and matured me through some unexpected, intense and sometimes very challenging and humbling experiences, and for this I am also exceedingly grateful.
     
    If I may speak about our collective experience from my own perspective, I feel we could be on the verge of some very intense times emotionally. Because of this, I've been making a conscious effort to prepare myself, ground myself in steady foundations, let go of fear and malaise and unhealthy attachments, engage in new creative work, make good memories while the making is good, and reach out to others just a little bit more. Time will tell whether any of this has anything to it, but I'm operating on the assumption that it does.
     
    My advice, in general too but especially if things turn upside down? Live life to the best of your ability. See the hidden good. Keep your friends close. Be honest. Have faith in the real. And (I guess this really sums up what I want to get across), DON'T PANIC.

    I'm not going to Canada or Spain or Africa or wherever the dickens I might have wandered off to if I'd left where I was. I'm still here. Looking for an apartment and a job at the moment. Massage therapist training at the local vocational academy starts in January. I intend to be there among the 16 accepted applicants at that time. Only took me eight years to figure out for myself what I was told by a computer program back in senior year. Hooray!
     
    Life is awesome, life sucks. And that's the way it goes.

    I just hosted my going-away party. Life is hectic, mad scary, and oh so very, very sweet. The Lego collection is just about packed up and will be gone tomorrow. I hope it finds its way to some kids who will appreciate it and get something out of it. I'm suddenly faced with an unexpected choice: should I go ahead with the wild hobo adventure as planned, or opt for the wild hippie adventure instead? Decisions, decisions...

    A Death In The Family

    I am shocked and saddened to read of the passing of Nate Nielson, known by the alias "nnenn," on April 13th. The man was a legend among AFOLs and his presence will be sorely missed.
     
    As fate would have it, on that same day I was mysteriously prompted to take the photo below. It shall now serve as my tribute to the late, great master nnenn.

    Building Contest: Golden Oldies! ♪♫

    Hello, BZPower! Yes, this is a building contest! Yes, there are cool prizes! No, you do not necessarily have to be someone who owns at building like Darth Vader to win!

    Guidelines:


    The idea is to build something, anything, that is directly inspired by a song which, in your honest, heartfelt opinion, fits the definition of a "golden oldie." So not a song from the '00s, not a song from the '90s, but, I have arbitrarily decided, any song from before 1990 is fair game. All genres of music are accepted, provided the lyrics are SFBZP. (Yeah, you can bleep out mild cuss words if you really want to use a song that has them.)

    Your creation, however you should choose to present it, should use non-virtual LEGO® parts in some way. If you like, you are free to include other 2-D and/or 3-D media of a static, visual, non-virtual nature (i.e. not audio or video), provided whatever you've done with the LEGO® parts is the key focus of the creation. Creativity is the name of the game. The LEGO® parts do not necessarily have to be of the BIONICLE® variety, but some amount of BIONICLE®-derived content will probably find its way into some most entries. The tried-and-tested traditional method of building, namely connecting LEGO® parts onto LEGO® parts the way Ole Kirk Christiansen intended, will serve you well. Other methods will, however, be given consideration.

    As usual, previously published creations will not qualify for entry.

    How to enter:



    Take a photo of your entry. Resize it so it doesn't take forever to load! Also, if you want to submit more pictures, edit them into one image file (JPG etc). Host it online at Majhost.com, Brickshelf.com, Flickr, or wherever.

    Judging:



    Entries will be judged based on two criteria: 1. how well they fit the song, and 2. creativity. NPU, as we MOCist types say, counts for creativity, but so does anything else that demonstrates imaginativity on the part of the builder. Think outside the box. Well, at least think outside the dot. Please. This isn't the average, everyday hum-drum of the BBC forum, here. You're allowed, and encouraged, to be original. Take a classic song you love and see what it moves you to make, without preconceptions. Of course, you're still subject to criterion #1, so it's not just "anything goes." We will require that your entry be somehow related to your song, whether it's through a scene, a mood, an object, an idea, or whatever. Abstract symbolism is fine, as long as you make clear how it fits the song.

    Entries begin being accepted as of now, January 9th, and will continue to be accepted until March April 1st. Don't delay, start procrastinating now!

    UPDATE: See Model Gal's Miniland Elvis for one example of a MOC that would be appropriate (and a good contender!) for this contest. In the case of MOCing a singer or band member(s), you would just need to relate the MOC to a song they did before 1990, and you'd be good to go.
