You and me both. I don't care much for social media either. I am somewhat familiar with the Bionicle subreddit and it seems to mostly be for MOCs and meme images. Also of note is that most of the memes do not concern any Bionicle media from the time so much as fan created media after G1s cancellation. When selling these things the impression I've gotten from many of the buyers is that they're people who wanted the toys as children but were likely too poor to afford any. So the community nowadays mostly just consists of mocists/artists and people trying to live out a childhood that they never had. It is not me and my cousin discussing how Kalmah was meant to be the least intelligent of the barraki or freaking out when Mata Nui got awakened anymore. In that respect it feels like the Bionicle community has kind of spun off from its' origins to become less about the actual toyline and more about the fanbase itself and what it creates. Because of this you could argue that the IP is now unofficially property of the fans willing to stick around to try and keep the fire going. I will also acknowledge that it has undoubtedly inspired many creatives who I am sure owe their talent in part to this now old property. I personally in part believe in may have helped develop some of my academic skills, particularly in the language and history department given how young I was when I got into it. Either way I can say I am very happy that I was into it as a kid.

I've been involved with Bionicle in some way or another since 2003 at the latest. And after all these years my pay off is a little cameo in this guy's video. Not that I'm complaining, I just thought it was kind of funny. Either way the only reason I am still here is out of habit more than anything. And even then I think it is very likely that I will soon be gone for good. What I type here may well be my last post. Bionicle was a means for me to connect with other kids (namely my cousin). But things have been rapidly changing for me, especially since my conversion. Simply put the more I find real world community again the less Bionicle really matters to me. My nostalgia had nothing to do with the toys themselves so much as the relationships surrounding them. I was intensely nostalgic when I joined because I hit a bit of a snag in my teens. Since then though, life has gotten better and I simply have no need for the Nostalgia anymore. Either way I will say thank you the users here for making this website fun.

I would personally recommend keeping it sealed and selling it. Admittedly this is depending on your economic situation. If you feel you're fairly comfortable money wise then by all means open it and enjoy. However otherwise I would highly recommend selling it as we need all the money we can get.

My recollection on his origin is that it was supposed to be something along these lines. I remember the backstory was that he was "the first hero to fail a mission and so turned against the Hero Factory". But as was so often the case with Hero Factory it wasn't properly explained. With the Makuta he/they were just kind of jealous and thus evil in the context of the story and just got into a grand power struggle to assert their own greatness. Von ness/nebula on the other hand just seemed to have been hard done by HF and was perhaps even a sympathetic character. From what I recall he just got kind of scared in the middle of some battle and decided to break protocol and run away. Stormer I think was perhaps overly harsh on him. At the same time though surely Nebula should have just taken the reprimand and kept at it. Come to think of it what little story telling there was to HF was perhaps kind of... for lack of a better term, toxic. What was that meant to teach young boys? "If you're in a life threatening situation don't run because that's weak and you deserve to be completely shamed and isolated if you do"? Honestly thinking back on it I'm surprised it got away with this kind of messaging. My guess is that it wasn't given that much attention at the time and so nobody bothered to critique it back in 2010. Honestly I think it would have been far better if they had just made it that he was a plain old corrupt hero who just engages in crime for his own ends. A simple crime lord would have been a lot better.

Huh. I remember back in 2008 Bionicle was listed in Japan with the phantoka so I believe they may have been misremembering. However I don't know if the 2009 sets and story made it there.

Are you Japanese or do you just know the language? Either way I am not surprised that this is the case. I remember exploring the Japanese version of the Lego website back in 2008 and there were only a small number of themes listed as available. Compared to the west it didn't seem like Lego invested much into the Japanese market (and this was during the time Exo-Force was around might I add). However I do remember that Bionicle was listed as available. I don't know if Lego didn't invest because of lack of interest or some other factor. My guess is that it may have been to do with the cost of Lego products. For example I remember Lego was a lot more expensive in Australia compared to America and Europe. I assume this was due to shipping costs. If this was the case I imagine this also applies to Japan which in turn results in a lower number of sales compared to the west. Honestly kind of sad as I could imagine Bionicle may have been quite popular in Japan under different circumstances.

What I am about to say is based on information I got from a source that cannot be named for their own safety nor can I give any information on how they know this information. Within various Lego fan community projects there are unsavoury people who have been involved in various, not ok activities. Who these people are and what exactly they did cannot be mentioned under any circumstances. Because of this it is possible that Lego is increasingly guarded with regard to their properties and who can make what and may have perhaps encouraged an internal scorched Earth policy where they will not allow their online fan community to do much of anything. Lego is very protective of its' reputation and they want absolutely no association with any kind of nefarious activity or people. If my theory here proves true (as based on information that you're just gonna have to take my word on) then this is not surprising and may well prove a massive problem for fan projects going forward. I will for example point to the game Club Penguin. A staple for children in the 2000s is nowadays seemingly running out of private servers due to precisely this issue. A previous private server for that particular game was shut down and many of its' operators arrested for crimes I do not believe I can mention here due to the rules. I am going to stress that what I have said regarding certain unsavoury activities in no way applies to the team behind masks of power and that my source has no contact with them or anyone connected to them whatsoever and has not divulged any information regarding them. Do not assume anyone in the masks of power team to be bad actors. Anyway due to this fact I think it's very likely that Lego knowing about these issues is now likely to be very cagey regarding Bionicle. I do also worry that this may escalate to other projects such as the Lego island decompilation efforts. I personally think this may be a side effect of a more serious problem of old fan communities being increasingly filled by people who are generally very unwell and who Lego might be on edge about.

I personally think the OP really should focus their attention on other activities. It would likely benefit them in the long run.

Their condition and prices are listed below (prices are negotiable): 8578: Gahlok-Kal Condition: Comes with all pieces but has fairly bad fractures on the feet. They are still connected well though. Price: £5 8605: Toa Matau Condition: Very good. Only a fracture on a piece I am sure I have a spare of and so should be shipped with fractures that I am aware of. Price: £9 8606: Toa Nuju Condition: Very good. No fractures that I am aware of. Price £9 8604: Toa Onewa Condition: Very good. No fractures as far as the eye can see. Also comes with original instruction manual in scuffed but usable condition. Price £9 8619: Keerahk Condition: Fairly good. Set itself comes with no fractures as far as I am aware although the konaka disk is somewhat discoloured. Light up effect (that's the chingy for those familiar with chronicles of a certain Toa) no longer works on his sword though. Also features instruction manual in I believe torn but usable condition. Price: £15 8732: Toa Matoro Condition: Quite good with only some light fracturing on one hand piece. Light up effect/chingy still works. Condition of canister is not so good with the top left corner having essentially crumbled. Not sure how that happened but there you go. Instruction manual I believe is also available in torn but usable condition. Price: £15 8900: Reidak Condition: Pretty good. Possibly some very light stains on the teeth (who knows maybe I tried to feed this thing when I was 7) but other than that no fractures. Canister is discoloured and I believe one of the zamor sphere may be the wrong shade of green. Price: £13 8918: Carapar Condition: Overall good with a fracture on his foot piece. Slightly looser connection but still usable. Canister is discoloured. Price: £16 8929: Defilak Condition: Very good. No fractures or other issues. Price: £6.50 8930: Dekar: CURRENTLY ON RESERVE Condition: Very good. No fractures or other issues. Price: £6.50 8698: Vultraz Condition: Decent. As is unfortunately common with sets from this year it has a fracture it both one arm and one hand piece. Everything seems good though. Comes with instruction manual in quite decent condition. From what I've seen Lego is a very different company from what it was 20 years ago. It is true that Lego nowadays makes many sets priced in the 100s with many thousands of pieces. 20 years ago such sets were a rarity and were not designed for their target demographic (kids). You can talk about economics but it is true that the sets themselves are much larger than they used to be in terms of piece count. Chances are that this model is currently working for Lego or they simply wouldn't do it. The reason this has happened is likely because of a massive shift in Lego's core audience. As of now adults buying toys has been normalised and adults make up an increasing amount of their target audience. Gone are the days of kids begging their parents for expensive toys. Now we have a situation of professional 30 somethings buying toys with the disposable income they aren't spending on housing or children. And I should note that if they have children they often times actually buy these sets for both themselves and their kids and I believe even build them together. A very stark contrast to the boomer and earlier Gen X parents who raised the average Bionicle kid. Those parents were expected to give up their toys in their teens and as such had very little patience or interest in stuff like Bionicle. My parents found it an annoying money sink and if I ever watched the Bionicle movies you could rest assured they would never ever pay attention to them. This seems to speak less to thinking too large and more the demographic crisis the world is in due to the shrinking birthrate.

You know it's funny. I completely forgot the whole Kulta name was even a thing. That sums up any sense of nostalgia I have towards G2. That is to say none. I barely even think about it these days. The whole thing just felt soulless as said before. I would definitely say it was done way too soon. If Lego wanted to have another shot at Bionicle they should have done it around now I would say. The sets themselves were easily the best thing to come out of CCBS and that says a lot about the inherent problems with CCBS. I personally think Lego should have never created CCBS and instead focused on improving the mould quality of the already existing pieces. The story was very basic with some interesting elements that never got expanded upon. My recollection is that it was way more mask based. The whole universe centred around Ekimu and Makuta and the various masks they made. Mata Nui and the whole religion of the matoran was removed. They made the world much more like ninjago and thus much more hollow. In fact I don't recall the matoran ever being explored that much. They were just kind of a backdrop. I personally think the entire thing was a last ditch effort to save constraction and CCBS. What also adds to this indifference is that I was 15-16 at the time it released. Too old to have that nostalgic feeling. To me I mostly associate nostalgia with something that I experienced as a child. When you are a child you have much greater emotional reactions and thus things leave a greater impression. Bionicle in 2003 is something I can still remember to this day in spite of how young I was because it left such a massive impact. Of course as you grow older and see and experience more that feeling fades. In fact if I'm perfectly honest I don't even have much nostalgia for the legend reborn. I have plentiful nostalgia for the original three films I had on VHS but none for the legend reborn. I think in part because it was easily the worse entry in the original films and also because nostalgia really starts to dwindle for me after 2008. The world was slowly starting to change after that and Bionicle by then was no longer as impactful because I had already been following it for so long. It simply wasn't interesting enough to make much of a dent in my memory and I doubt ever could have been.

I still remember hearing Lewa for the first time all the way back in 2003. At the time his voice felt... strange to me. Although I can see why that voice was chosen as it had a sort of jungle tribe feel to it. Turns out he also did some work on other animations I used to watch. Kinda makes me feel old. It shows how much time is flying since then. Either way, thanks for the memories.

Hello On the back of my door there has been a Bionicle lunchbag that I believed I obtained circa 2007-2008. It's a Mahri themed one. Below are some pictures They show the front, the front when the bag is open, the overall shape of the bag, the back with the straps, and the interior. It's in pretty bad condition nowadays. That aside the reason I am making this topic is because I have searched for this bag online in the hopes of finding some info on who manufactured it. There's just one problem. I can't find any information related to it and have no idea who manufactured it. There is no label on the bag to indicate such a thing and I was wondering if anyone knew any information on where exactly this thing came from.

I recall receiving Bionicle related items during Christmas of 2005, 2007, and 2008. Typically I got Bionicle stuff a few times a month. In 2005 I received my only system based Bionicle set in the form of the visorak battle ram. An ok playset but nothing to write home about. In 2007 I received Kharzani for Christmas of that year. And in 2008 I got axalara T9. Kharzani was easily my favourite of these. I remember wanting bionicles in 2003 and 2004 respectively. In 2003 I wanted Makuta Teridax (then just called Makuta) and in 2004 I believe I wanted Nidhiki or possibly Toa Lhikan. In those early years I think my parents were kind of clueless as to how much I loved Bionicle and so never got me what I wanted. I don't actually remember what I even got in Christmas of 2004. Good times either way. Wish I had gotten a few more titans but in the end I am more than happy with what I got.

Off the bat this sounds like a bad idea. They already had a go at this back in 2017 with the animated Ninjago theatrical film and that flopped. I don't know why universal studios thinks it will be any different this time around. Ninjago has a limited audience. Its' oldest fans (on average) are in their early 20s. This gives a rough audience of 4/5-23 year old males. It's not exactly an iconic franchise given that it has no broader appeal beyond this demographic. It also doesn't help that we've had a decline in birthrates over the last decade or so and thus this leaves a very small audience. The Bionicle movies were direct to video/DVD because it couldn't appeal to the general cinema audience. Lego should really just stick to netflix for this sort of thing as they'll be wasting a lot of money trying this again.

I'm not familiar with this so called right to Bionicle. Was there ever a piece of legislation that proclaimed such a right? In fact most (by which I mean all) legislation would deny you such a right as Bionicle is considered property of the Lego group and as such you have absolutely no right to it at all as Lego has a monopoly on it. Actually bringing it back again is also no longer economical. The moulds are now long out of production and with a declining economy it's unlikely Lego will be willing to invest in new moulding machines any time soon. If you do see anything more based on Bionicle it will in all likelihood be brick based similar to the promotional set from last year. Of course if you're ok with brick based Bionicles designed to resemble past sets then I personally think you can reasonably expect this to happen at some point in the future (can't say when). However an actual official continuation will never happen at this point. It is possible that Greg Farshtey could unofficially wrap up the story but even that seems unlikely as he doesn't seem all that interested. Bionicle isn't 100% dead but it is mostly dead. References will be made here and there but that's the best you'll get. It's also questionable how much Lego would want to make brick built sets as the size of the Bionicle audience is limited compared to other IPs. Most people who know anything about Bionicle are people born at various points in the 1990s and a few years after the turn of the century. This is a very limited audience compared to Lego's current strategy of using licences with much broader appeal. This is why Lego may not make many of them and even then they will just be brick built replicas and not designed as a continuation or new sets in the true sense. So if you want an actual continuation it is not heartless to say that you're wasting your time because you will just be sorely disappointed.

Yeah it didn't develop his character at all and was promptly forgotten. I could also talk about the problems with Lloyd. His actions indicating he was somewhere around the age of 5 or 6 and not 14 like the story claimed. There was also a bunch of plot holes related to how exactly Lloyd even existed to begin with. The story indicated that Lord Garmadon had been in the underworld for decades and yet Lloyd was only 14? The timeline didn't really make any sense. But back to the topic of Zane it kind of shows the problem I pointed out with character development on children's TV. That is to say there rarely is any because the creators need to ensure that the character can be used indefinitely. Zane is a very good example of this. Bionicle was actually something of an exception to this as due to it having year long arcs told mostly via online comics and stories it was possible to develop the characters. Although that being said the characters in Bionicle weren't exactly it's strongsuit so much as the wider world they lived in, in my opinion.

I remember the first time I started to not like the series. It was either episode six or seven when Zane's backstory was revealed. I remember looking forward because some of the materials from the 2011 books was saying he showed up in a village one day having lost all memory. Kind of like the Toa or even Shadow the hedgehog. I thought there would be some sort of orphan backstory or something similar, but no. Instead he was just a robot. And from what I recall the creator just kind of forgot about him. I remember absolutely hating that as there was so much kids media that did a better job of this. It just became more apparent for me as time went on that it wasn't very good. I'll never forget the line "Evil runs through my veins" from lord Garmadon. It was such a dumb line. So on the nose it felt insulting. Like something out of a pre school show.

There are other people on twitter saying the same thing which seems to heavily suggest that this is indeed the case. Sad but not unexpected. I believe Johnny Thunder used to feature at Legoland but I think I heard somewhere it's now gone (I'm not sure if this is true so feel free to correct me). Lego simply do not care about bionicle anymore.

I'm not too familiar with this user but depending on how long this person has been gone they're either A, an infrequent poster/user, B, the person is just busy and doesn't have the time, or C, moved on with their life. The primary user base here is nostalgic zillennials so this is bound to happen. I would like to take this opportunity to remind people that an increasing number of people born in the 90s are now in their 30s. Yeah....

The most interesting part to me was the very early plans for 2006. Originally they were proposing going back to Mata Nui island and to return to the original toa team with "beefed up Toa Nuva". The idea was originally to have two stories. The first concerned a storm created by Trem Krom that would damage Mata Nui and the Toa had to stop it (kind of reminiscent of the morbuzak story). The second was where the real story began with a team of sort of anti-Toa called the Toa Rana, brought to the island by three titans called "Torays". They intended to steal these masks from the Toa for their own benefit. I honestly like this idea. The Toray were described as "manta-ray/amphibian in appearance". 2008 was also proposed to take place in "the city of the brotherhood of Makuta" which sounded like a real cool idea. A sort of evil Metru Nui which would likely have been called Makuta-Nui (that name wasn't in the documents but it's kind of obvious). 2009 wasn't as interesting because the story didn't change all that much in development. 2006 is by far the most interesting.

So kind of like how Nintendo handles Pokemon. It seems like this idea was dreamt up by the Bionicle team who wanted more independence. From the production stand point it sounded like a bad idea as Lego needed full access to the technic elements. And even then the whole idea sounds like it was just too far ahead of its' time. Aiming the figures at a teen to adult audience would not have gone down well as that was still a very niche audience. It's a grown a lot since then but in the 2000s AFOLs were still seen as weird. I highly doubt there would have been a large enough audience to make it work. It's possible that such a company could have done a Heroica type theme at some point but it just sounded like too risky an idea. I think Lego made the right call.

Yeah if you look at Lego's current minifigure lineup they've got a real thing for characters with multicoloured hair and having this twitch style. The Dreamzzz line also features this. My guess is that Lego wants to keep kids' attention and so copies fortnite. I personally can't say I like the designs much but I guess that's how things are going. Kids seem to like neon colours way more nowadays. And yeah that'll happen with these programmes they're not really bad but they cannot keep your attention as you grow older. The themes in them are just too simplistic. Certainly good if you're a child but the older you get it all just becomes kinda meh. The themes just cannot be that complex.
