  1. My third entry- The Hunter

    thehunter_small.jpgLarger image- http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/ENDfilms/MOCs/thehunter.png

This ruthless mercenary is a self aware robot built by an unknown inventor. His overall goal is always the current goal of his inventor for him but beyond that he chooses his own targets to capture or eliminate.

It is highly skilled at stealth but when he gets close enough to his target to pursue its bright red color scheme strikes fear into his targets, for they know it will never stop until it has stopped its target.

It has its own built in exo suit that gives its arms incredible strength, enough to bend open think metal doors. Its feet have extra traction on the back and shock absorbing mechanics on the toes. It has two knives in holsters on the back of its legs. For its primary weapons it usually caries two swords or a disk launcher with an attached blade.

And as for the number of legs, I think it's stupid that people are even complaining. Nobody ever complained about Ussal Crabs or Nui-Jaga or Nui-Rama not having the right number of legs as far as I can recall, even though none of them ever did. Every single one of us learned how many legs spiders are supposed to have in elementary school. I get that. But on a fantasy creature that simply happens to be called a spider, that rule is no more mandatory than any other bit of biological trivia.

On a certain level, it would be like nitpicking Pokémon because they aren't perfectly accurate to the creatures they're based on. Oh no, Butterfree doesn't have six legs like a real butterfly! Pikachu doesn't have whiskers like a real mouse! Meowth stands up on two legs instead of walking on four legs like a real cat! What a travesty!

The Nui Jaga weren't scorpion, Nui-Rama weren't flies and Ussal crabs... Well I guess they kind of were crabs but the point is Visorak were never called spiders so they could have as few or many legs as they wanted. Technically, I only raised this point as a petty nitpick because the number of legs these has really doesn't make me like it any less. In fact I think si legs is plenty as it most probably WOULD look crowded with more like others have said.

Also, the real defence against the 'it's not a spider' argument is that the LOSS is never actually called a spider... It's the Lord OF the Skull Spiders... Anyone read Lord of the Rings? Sauron wasn't a ring, just the lord of them... Although in this instance we now have to berate the skull spiders themselves (who definitely ARE called spiders) as they have even fewer legs than LOSS. The Fikou spider is another instance of this rule buing broken but those little guys are just so darn cute they can go by whatever name they want :D

Unfortunately the actual skull spiders have even fewer legs.  :P

Not that it looks bad but the scientist in me wants them to come up with a different name.  :D

A long time ago I remember seeing a modified version of the cutscene where Wairuha is gang-bashed by Manas, where the close-up scenes show Akamai instead of Wairuha. I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned here yet!

Really? Is it in the game files of the 2006 downloadable version or the BioMediaProject version? Is it on Youtube somewhere?

The LEGO site downloadable version, yeah.

Strange... I have the 2006 downloable version and I can only find the regular cutscene in the files. (I know I have that version of the game because I went on the Wayback Machine and went to Bionicle.Lego.com in 2006 to download it, because at the time I didn't know what BioMediaProject was.)

Can I have a link to where I can download this version?

    No.

Just kidding, here you go. :P  :P  :P

I recommend downloading the Walkthrough PDF. It has some nice trivia & fun facts about the game at the end.

    Thanks for the help.  :)

It makes sense they did a release in 2006 because it is an intro to the matoran versions and back story of some of the new toa.

I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but are we allowed to update an entry after submitting it to the competition topic so long as the update is completed prior to the submission period closing?

No, once your entry has been submitted it cannot be altered.

What about edits of the text, not the picture (or should I delete my post and post again because I fixed typos)?

Fixing a typo in your post is fine. It's your MOC that cannot be altered.

Good to know the big "edited" message beneath the post doesn't doom my entry.   :)

  7. My second entry- The Hidden One

This mysterious figure once plotted in a cave by a volcano on Okoto and was waiting till the skull spiders and villagers wear each other down so he could come out and easily conquer both. Those plans were ruined when the Toa arrived and tipped the balance of power in the fight. The Hidden One now moves on to his second plan for conquering the island- finding the mask of control. He is armed with a fire sword, two claws, and a weapon that fires super-heated balls of  lava which he will use all of, if he needs to, to complete his goals.

It was a good review :) It really helped 'getting to know the pieces'.

Thus far I adore BIONICLE G2, but thethreevirtues did a much more critical review than BZPower, which I prefer, although BZPower has only put out 1 vs thethreevirtues' 6, so odds are in BZPowers' to change my mind (about who did a better review), but that's more subjective than anything else, I'm sure that BZPower showing Kopaka being built instantly made their review better than  thethreevirtues' video in some peoples minds (which is entirely okay), so this is all very subjective.

I gotta say though, these sets are offering a really good mix of pieces (as far as this construct... constraction? goes. Different advantages and disadvantages; and currently it certainly feels like it has more potential [= better] although I'll need to look back over them all to work out how many technic pieces they have vs axle holes per larger piece etc.)

The Three Virtues, in my opinion, was in no place to offer criticism in the first place since they didn't have the actual sets, but just reproductions based on pictures. This especially afflicted their early review of Lewa, since they BUILT THE SET WRONG and then criticized it about flaws the actual set didn't have. Yes, they added a correction to the description after their error was pointed out, but that's like a band-aid over a gushing wound. They really need to learn to apply more professionalism to their reporting considering the size of their audience and the transient nature of YouTube viewers (who aren't necessarily going to revisit a review or video they've already watched for updates).

BZP's review didn't offer much criticism, but it presented the set exceptionally well, to the point where people can easily draw their own conclusions. Black Six shouldn't have to try and nitpick fine details just to try to add a semblance of "balance" to the narrative. He clearly liked the set and the review (which, like all reviews, is based on his subjective assessments) reflects that.

Not just pictures. They saw the sets in person and had help from the LEGO staff at comic con with some of them.

I know that. I was there. The point was, those still weren't the sets. They were not built from the instructions and that allowed for errors, regardless of what help they had (not all of the Lego staff there were the designers of the sets themselves, after all, and even the designers could make mistakes). As previews of the sets, they were great! They gave a good look at what the sets MIGHT be like. But they weren't REviews, and as such they should have tempered both their enthusiasm and their criticism accordingly.

They do say that they aren't exact at the very beginning but they are very close. (closest we had till this review).
