The remaining skrall/bonehunters, velika and his killing spree, other great beings that might have survived, the barraki being unmutated by the burst of energy from the mask of life, the goldenskinned being, the few surviving elemental Lords, the literal direct threat they faced in the last serial before it got cancelled...plenty of threats

Not to mention Marendar, the Dark Hunters, the uncontrolled remaining Rahkshi and Visorak (remnants of Teridax's army) and evil Takanuvas.
True, I forgot about the shadow Takanuva and dark hunters. I need to do a quick Google check, I don't remember who Marendar was. Didn't the visorak all die when the volcano erupted though? And I think tahu in the golden armor vaporized all the rahkshi and absorbed their powers. Skakdi should still be around though I think.

Edit: oh my goodness! I don't know how I missed that in the yesterday quest...that is insane about the Marendar...it's desire to kill to so intense it smashed through 3 ft of metal...

  3. I've bought tickets to join the 17th Anniversary big raffle, and I've even gotten an email from paypal confirming my tickets, but in the raffle page I do not see my tickets added to the sum of tickets bought, nor do I see my user in the list of users registered.

So...anyone can clear this up for me? First raffle I take part in.

That freaked me out in my first raffle too. Don't worry, this is normal. The raffles are updated by hand, so one of the moderators will update it soon. I think it took about a day. As I said though, don't worry. This is normal, and you will be participating in the raffle.
  4. Am I the only one who thinks that assuming color signifies rank would be redundant, since the sets are already arranged by rank via size/bulk? I've always assumed that any Skrall of any class could be any color, and they were only depicted the way there were in visual media to match up with their set forms. So, while there does seem to be a convenient association of red with regular Skrall, dark red with elite warriors, and lime for leaders in regards to the sets, I never thought that carried over into the story. If I'm allowed to speculate a little bit as to what significance the colors can mean, it could have to do with geography or special division affiliations. For instance, maybe the Skrall's homeland on Bota Magna was divided into provinces, and each Skrall of a certain province shared a color. Or maybe it's similar to Phase II clone trooper armor from Star Wars, where all men in a certain unit (from the commander to the grunts) have the same color, like orange for Commander Cody's troops or blue for the 501st.

I always assumed the Stars Skrall was simply a reimagining of a regular Skrall, and since I never connected color with rank I just assumed LEGO wanted to add some variety and made him green.

size of set doesn't necessarily signify rank though. Tahu, Takanuva, and Gresh all got downsized in the stars sets, but I don't think anyone would argue they have low rank. Plus I've heard it said that the piraka stars set was never meant to be an in general skakdi set, but was actually meant to be a Nektann set (as a powerful skakdi leader, his rank is high).

On the other hand, Lego probably just had green pieces leftover and didn't want to spend money to print red ones..

Hey, I have a few questions. What are T1 and T2 cards? never heard of these.

T1 and T2 were given out at QFTM tournaments at Lego stores in 01 - T1 for participating, T2 for winning. There weren't many of those tournaments, so the cards are super duper rare. This old BZP reference page has some decent scans of them.

As for the rest of your post - PM sent!

Wow. I never heard of those either. This is going to keep me awake at night now. I thought I had collected all of them, was even proud of being one of the few to find 197. Turns out I'm missing T1 and T2 =(

Edit: if you do happen to find a spare of either of the tournament cards, I'd be happy to trade you the silver letter kopaka for it.

  6. Hey all! I'm excited for my third ever contest, and hope my participation turns out better than precious times. This time, my entry is for Biosector's Legends and Infamy contest for the Infamy category. As an introduction, Roodaka has always been one of my favorite villains. Especially because her species can't normally use elements, but she (through willpower or dedication) learned to use Shadow. I imagined how I think she'd look if turned good, such as if she were exposed to a light leech (that I'm sure Melding Teridax could manufacture). Anyway, here's a link to the entry! I'm still new to contests and showing others my MOCs, so I appreciate feedback.

If you like my work, please vote for me. I would love for this to be my first ever win (though there's some stiff competition). Anyway, thanks for your time!

  7. This is creative and amazing! As a proud mathematician, I'm mindblown.

Edit: Oh my God! I was looking at the amazingness that is this build again, and I just noticed...you gave him a compass! Please tell me you have plans to give him a straightedge also (or is that what's on his other hip?)

Edit 2: really though, I'm seriously nerding out right now, this is the greatest thing ever! I honestly don't know what's my favorite part of this, that it actually looks like Euclid, that you gave him tiny math tools, or that he's about to blast someone with a circle inscribed in an equilateral triangle. Forgive me if this is forward, but can you please make instructions? (after the Biocup of course, which I really hope you win!). I'd love to add Euclid to my collection, and am not worthy to try to replicate it without help. Seriously, send this to Lego right now so they can make it an official set. I need this in my life.

  8. Well it’s definitely something to be searching up inspiration on Teridax’s appearance during “The Kingdom” storyline, and coming up on this thread from 3 years ago and seeing people praise the MOCs you made when your boss needed a display!

I built these! And I still have Teridax to this day, so I can upload instructions if anyone is still interested, and Takanuva won’t be hard to redo at all.

    larger window.

The moderators don't usually like people bringing back threads this old that haven't been commented on in a while. Not sure how it would go though, seeing as how how you finally solved the mystery of who built these awesome things! Gotta say, your Takanuva and Teridax are amazing! Real shame you couldn't get an avohkii on the Takanuva, and if I were to ever try to remake it, id probably conisder getting a custom "G2 Avohkii" 3D printed (probably wasn't an option for you though since you needed to advertise actual Legos). Regardless though Im glad you revived the topic, since otherwise I wouldn't have been able to see this! It's even more impressive after hearing the backstory! And if it's even half as good as this building,is i'd love to read the story you mentioned.
  9. I suppose we'll need other people to weigh their disks to see if the weights match up. If it were solid gold, I would have thought they would have advertised that fact more, but who knows.

I don't think weight of the disk is the issue any more. We need volume now. Anyone with 14g of for sure actual gold and a disk? There's a famous story of Archimedes determining whether a crown was solid gold by dropping both the crown and gold (weighing the same amount) in water. Both piles were the same weight, but the crown (displacing more water) had a larger volume, and was determined to contain other metals mixed in. The only way to determine if it's solid gold I would think is to confirm it has the exact same volume a 14g piece of gold should have.
  10. 14 grams might still be metal, as the Kanoka disc is relatively thin (thinner still than any coin, if you examine the cross section) and therefore occupies little volume (increasing density). The average Kanoka disc (at a guess) would weigh 2 to 3 grams. Without knowing the volume, my guess is indeed on gold-plated steel - easy to cast, easy to plate, cheapest material options.

I've been trying to buy one for a while, barely missed getting one a couple months ago. The person said it had cosmetic damage and looked a bit rusted (as if what was under the gold was corroded). I think that fits with the steel theory (although silver will tarnish too). With the original $50 worth though, idk anyone know the value of gold and silver back then? I think that would narrow down whether it's steel or silver.

Note: would still love to get my hands on one still if anyone's interested in selling one...

  11. My entire book collection is more or less trashed due to me reading in the bathtub and bringing them with me on vacation as a kid. Any advice on buying like-new BIONICLE books secondhand?

Replacing the whole collection will be pretty expensive. I'd suggest checking eBay, Amazon, alibris, bookdepository, and other used book sites. You may mind things cheap every once in a while, and most book redistributors keep things in fairly good condition. Main thing is don't search Bionicle. Collectors drive those prices up. For the example of the above book, I searched only "fall of atero". Much cheaper than the other options. I have a complete collection of the books, and between used book stores, Amazon and eBay, most costed between $1-$3.

  12. I am currently trying to collect all the bionicle graphic novels. At the moment I have successfully got my hands on 8 out of 9 of them. Fall of atero goes for £25 at the minimum and I'm wondering if I should wait to find it cheaper somewhere or if it will just increase in price as time goes on. I want to see what all of you reading think I should do.

Here it is for $5.69 free shipping. You're welcome

FYI. Collectors are nuts. They always forget that items are only worth what people are willing to pay for them, and not what some insane person lists for it. Always search for the title without the Bionicle portion to find the cheaper results not made by collectors.

  13. Okay, so, I was originally going to call this an extension, but it was brought to my attention I kinda forgot to actually list an entry period closing date in the first place. Either way...The entry period now closes on May 27, at 11:59 PM Eastern!

I had a feeling ending it this week wouldn't be enough time for a lot of people, so I'm happy to give you all until the end of May to make your submissions. Thanks for being part of this grand experiment!

Thank goodness! I think my partner abandoned me...for the past month, they were very responsive and responded every day with progress, updates, or suggestions. They haven't responded in the past week though...I was starting to get very worried that this meant I was auto-disqualified since I had no partner! That artbook is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen though, so it's nice to hear I still have some hope in getting it!
  14. I personally think they COULD, but chose not to. The makuta were probably one of the politcally stongest and wealthiest groups in the matoran universe. So I feel like their members could probably choose their masks and keep the one they liked the best or the most useful. I feel like using the same mask time after time would make it second nature (a big help in battle), as opposed to trying to discover new powers new masks have (the turaga literally had to trick some of the Toa into discovering some of their mask powers). Also, many makuta have expressed that speed is pretty much the one power they DONT have. Theyce also said that the only reason they don't use the kakama, is because they don't want to be like pathetic Toa. Since pathetic Toa need to rely on the extra powerups of extra masks, and need to use suvas, I doubt any self-respecting makuta would do either. They could, but would choose not to over pride.

  15. Does anyone want to duel team with me?

Weird. I didn't get a notification that you quoted me a few days ago. Unfortunately, I have a partner that I am excited to work with. In the spirit of friendly competition, here's a link to the matchmaking thread http://www.bzpower.com/board/topic/26217-bbc-contest-75-matchmaking-topic/ I found my partner here  :)

As much as I want the artbook (I was pretty bummed I couldn't win one myself originally), I wish you good luck, and I hope you find a good partner.

  16. Anybody here happen to own one of those bohrok pens? Can anyone tell me what material are those krana beads included in the pen made of? Are they hard or soft plastic? Do they have eyes sockets on them as well? How big are they and do they fit on heads? Thanks.

Photos of these kranas are always welcomed.

I don't have any of the bohrok pens, but I'm sure they're comparable to the Toa pens. The masks from the Toa Mata pens were hard, and were very small. They wouldn't fit on a Bionicle head, but could clip onto a Lego minifigure head. They did have eye sockets, but again they were so small that it wouldn't work for much. I hope that is some help.
  17. Ive been a Bionicle fan my whole life. As far as custom stuff goes, I mainly recreate existing stuff. But I think I have a good eye (ive done some pretty good recreations of melding Makuta, Makuta miserix, a lot of the dark hunters, and plenty more). As far as MOCs go, I've built a few I'm proud of, mainly characters that I wish got set form, such as the Rahi nui (all functions working), mutated brutaka (complete with custom piece made breathing helmet), and more. I'm still working on a few I'm proud of now, but dont want to say more in case it's something usable. I also have a large selection of parts to work with.

Official BBC Contest #75: It's Time to Dual!

One member, one entry. That's how it's gone since the beginning of forever. Okay, sometimes it's one member, multiple entries. But the point is it's always been every builder for themselves.

    Until now.

For this special occasion, the 75th official BBC contest, you will team up with another member and together, you will create two MOCs that complement each other perfectly. You've got free rein of what those MOCs are, but they must go together. Agreement: the first, and perhaps greatest, challenge.

You can only enter once, so pick your partner wisely. You'll have an extended entry period, because two weeks is a tight deadline when you're waiting on someone's response. And should you succeed in not only cooperating, but winning the contest? You'll both receive The Art of Bionicle, generously provided by Nick Vas and LEGO.

Can we team up with in person building friends? They usually visit as a guest, but i'm sure they'd be happy to create an account for such an awesome chance. I guess I'm asking whether partnering with a brand new member to bzpower is allowed.

I only build MOCs with my in person friends, and don't really have any online MOC friends. So if not, then a matchmaking area would be awesome!

  19. I mean, they eventually decided that there was no real connection between the shape and the power of a mask, based on the Toa Hagah's masks being in particular shapes that did not reflect the actual mask powers. (Like how Norik's mask was the same shape as Dume's but with a different power.) I always imagined the mask shapes were usually consistent based on some decision by the mask makers to keep things organized, but it wasn't a steadfast rule. And that's why powerless Matoran masks could take on any shape, be it Great or Noble. (And it's not even like the sets stayed consistent; Toa Lhikan's 2004 Hau was a different shape than Tahu's classic Hau, but in the story they were essentially the same mask type.) :music:

Especially confusing since Lhikan’s great hau looked different than Tahu’s great Hau. Lhikan turned turaga (gold good guy) without the mask changing. That mask was then taken and given to Jaller where it suddenly looked like Tahu’s great hau. Maybe Lhikan was like Norik, and had a specially shaped Hau that wasn’t the standard shape. I think that would explain why it didn’t change shape from Toa to gold good guy (doesn’t explain why it changed in the movie, unless the movie is non-canon). This doesn’t however explain why it changed shape when given to Jaller.
