I'm just thinking about the all-female village on the Island of Mata Nui back in 01. Would you say that they would be interpreted or somehow similar as the Amazons of Greek Mythology; but as villagers, chieftains, and fisherwomen instead of being warriors such as the Amazons on the Island of Themysicra (Wonder Woman's homeland) ?

Just something to share in my tin-foiled hat theory.

I heard that in the sales pitch, Gali was the only girl toa. They thought it would be easier to say only ga-bionicles are girls than to explain why she was the only girl. Not sure how much truth there is to that, but that’s at least what I heard.

No, those are in the standard release. The extra pages were the ones featuring the fight between Mata Nui and a Vorox in the desert. You can see them in the version archived on BMP: http://biomediaproject.com/bmp/files/gfx/Comics/Bara Magna Saga/Comic04/Bara Magna Saga 04.pdf

That makes much more sense! I’d heard that that link had the extra pages, but I opened it and saw the first pages were the same, and just assumed the rest was too. Thanks for your help. It turns out none of them had the special pages. Bummer.

I was confused about this for a while as well. Evidently the "normal" version of the issue still said "Special Movie Edition" on the outside. Are you certain the ones you've seen actually have the extra pages, or are they just labeled "Special Movie Edition"?

The extra pages were the ones featuring the cendox and kaxium vehicles right? Those have been present in every version I’ve seen.

  4. Does anyone have a copy of the Bionicle comic 13 promo variant that was given away at Walmart?

    Image of variant comic

Guurahk was my very first set, and I really want to add this comic to my collection. I want to buy it (name your price) or can trade it for some other exclusive comics I have.

There are two images by the way. The one I want has guurahk on it and says exclusive collectors edition in the corner.

  5. I seriously hope someone is still reading this. I've been awfully busy these past two months and only now I've finally managed to post Chapter 38. Feel free to tell me what you think. I hope to post 39 before the end of April (though that might be wishful thinking...).

You still have at least one reader! I've been thoroughly enjoying this epic (it's the only one that's kept my attention that I intend to finish). Can't wait for the next chapter!

  6. Good call. I didn't attribute the air bubbles or the mutated fish as leaking energy. I still think it can be argued that at minimum though the vahi is at least as powerful as the other legendary masks.

Good call. I didn't attribute the air bubbles or the mutated fish as the same type of leaking energy as when the vahi broke. I still think it can be argued that at minimum though the vahi is at least as powerful as the other legendary masks.

That's interesting about the mask of Creation. It must have been in an interview.

  7. If the Ignika were destroyed, all life in the MU would cease to exist. Or all inanimate objects would come to life.

Or both. That's part of the reason Teridax ejected it from the universe. He knew about the Ignika's countdown and the damage to it. In either case, he'd probably die.

I thought that too,but rereading it for the chronical, I'm not so sure. The vahi looked like it would destroy everything if destroyed, because the smallest crack made its power run wild. The ignika on the other hand did get a ton of cracks in mahri nui, but no power leaked from it (other than the usual curse). I think it would've been fine for it to be destroyed. Where I think everyone was panicking about rescuing it, was that if it was destroyed, then they couldn't use it to save mata nui (and so the universe would die). So I think the universe would indirectly die from it being destroyed, as compared to the direct death of the universe from the vahi. I think he removed the mask of life from the universe because it had the power to blow up the universe when if the MU was unbalanced. Why he didn't destroy it could have just been arrogance. He thought he was unstoppable and it didn't matter if it (or mata nui) lived (otherwise why not download if to something that could be destroyed). I could totally be wrong though, but that was my interpretation. Incidentally, if I am wrong, and all legendary masks unleash power on destruction, what would the mask of Creation do? Destroy all creativity in the universe? No inventions, no art, no dreams? It sounds weird, but that would kind of reset the MU to being the mindless drones the great beings intended them to before velika intervened wouldn't it?.

Speaking of Teridax, a major part of his Metru Nui takeover was to use the Vahi to make the 1000 years that was needed to kill Mata Nui happen quickly. Do you think he could have actually controlled the Vahi enough to do this? Tahu was hardly able to control it for more than about half a minute? Vakama messed up the instant he tried (froze himself in time as well as his target) so would Teridax be strong enough to make time flow faster for 1000 years?

Tough to say. He is definitely might stronger than any Toa, so I feel like he could control it better than tahu did. But I still feel like (in my opinion), being the most powerful mask in existence, he wouldn't be able to control it perfectly. There would be some consequences. Maybe he was arrogant, and thought he could handle it, or maybe he didn't care about consequences. I mean technically, all he is smoke in a suit of armor. If he was aged 1000 years with the rest world, would it even matter for him?

Maybe he had a better understanding of how the mask was supposed to work, and thought that with a bit of practice who could control it's power. Remember that Teridax was arrogant and in possession of immense knowledge of the rules of the Matoran Universe, both of which are caused by him being one of the Makuta. Teridax probably just assumed he could use it without much difficulty or danger.

I think teridax is definitely the most arrogant being in the MU, so I would definitely believe that he thought he could handle it (even if he couldn't). Or maybe he didn't care about consequences. All he is is smoke in a suit of armor. If he was accidentally aged 1000 years with the rest of the world, it woudnt even matter.
  8. The Ignika ate the two people that wore it. :P

But yes, I'd agree that they did have control over it. Or, Matoro did, at least. Teleporting his friends to safety and making them amphibious before becoming Universe juice.

Very true. But it might just be the law of equivalent exchange. In both instances, the user was bringing life to literally the entire universe. Maybe to give life the mask needs to siphon life, but all it's other powers could have been used cost free (both mata nui and the embodiment of the ignika had not trouble using certain powers). But even the ignika when it tried to awaken mata nui lost its body and "life" to do. So I wouldn't call it the price of using the mask in general, just the price to use one specific power of the mask.

Edit: plus it seemed to be implied that the mask of life could be destroyed (since it developed cracks without anything bad happening. The vahi would destroy the universe if destroyed. If one has enough power to take the universe with it if it breaks, and the other doesn't, I think that is some measure of power levels.

  9. I would argue that it's more powerful. MU inhabitants have weilded the powers of the other two masks successfully. No MU inhabitant has successfully used the mask of time without almost accidentally destroying the world (tahu was the most successful, but even that, he couldn't control it). As far as it's uses, we've definitely seen fewer of those, but that again may be because it's so much more powerful. We haven't seen what the mask of time can REALLY do because no one's ever used it properly. Lastly, as far as the "it was never meant to exist" argument, do the three virtues mean nothing to you? I believe vakama was destined to make it, and that it was a failsafe built into the mata nui robot, like how the Toa inika were made.

  10. Well, how do they get the red onto it?

I'm not sure. It's probably painted on, but they could have just used two colors when injecting the color into the shield. Painting over it would be noticeable, and if it was painted on, then someone would likely need acetone or nail polish remover to remove the paint. This is time-consuming, and has a high likelihood of eating through the plastic or warping it. Dying the shield is a possibility, but i think this is all too much work for a misprint that sells for 50 cents i think. Plus like I said, if we're thinking about misprints being faked, then most colored mask misprints can be made by redying (a few exceptions such as the pearl gold kraahkan and a few others). Where the 5 hole kraahkan can be made by punching a hole through a 4 hole kraahkan. These misprints would take the same difficulty to forge as the all black shield (in my opinion) and sell for a lot more. So should we consider any misprint that sells here or elsewhere to be a fake?

All black is a misprint. It was mists kingly produced and put into some skrall sets.

Is that a misprint too?  :P

And is it not possible that someone deliberately removed the red to make it look like they have some rare part?

It could be. But to remove all of the red without damaging any of the black at all would be difficult and time consuming i think. And if we question whether people can edit pieces to make them look rare, then we should also discredit many other rare misprints such as the 5 hole kraahkan (I imagine it's ridiculously easy to just make a hole in a 4 hole kraahkan).

i have a big suspicion could be spraypainted

It could be. I think a big factor is whether the entire shield is silver, or just the pattern. If the whole shield is silver, it probably is painted. If just the pattern is, I think that's too time-consuming for anyone to do and sell it for so little.

  12. Bricklink has a listing for a Skrall Shield without the red markings. I'm wondering if it actually exists or is just a regular one with the red printing removed. And I'm wondering what is with the rusty mark on the right side of it.

    https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=64271#T=S&C=11&O={"color":11,"rpp":"500","iconly":0}

One of the listings has it with a metallic silver pattern.

All black is a misprint. It was mists kingly produced and put into some skrall sets. I've never heard of a silver one. My guess would be its from a bootleg set. Or It might be a prototype. The orange spot is a glar from the camera.

  13. I very much look forward to a printable text-only complete version that I hope to have bound in one book, which will likely need to have thinner Bible-style pages. I will be in contact with my local publisher to see what they need to make this possible.

I've mentioned this before, but I believe having a Contents page would be very valuable in navigating through the printed book. It could be as simple as listing the starting page of the 10 books, or be as complex as your GoogleDoc with the chapter list and what that chapter represents in the official Bionicle book/short story that's being extracted, but that is completely up to you.

Thanks again TuragaNuva and others for the hard work!

I would be very interested in hearing what your local publisher says. Usually they're a little more flexible on price if multiple copies are ordered. I know I want one, and I'm sure there's other here that would be interested too, so maybe we can pull together and order from one publisher to lower cost. In that case, someone would need to design a cover though (personally, I think a simple black cover with the 3 virtues symbol on them would be a simple, yet stunning cover that wouldn't reveal anything about the storyline). A contents page might be a little chaotic since in the complete versions, items were moved to better transition between stories and serials. So books would be cut by other books/stories. Unless maybe someone went through the detail of naming every chapter?
  14. I never heard of these semi-cannon stories. I'd love to read them. I'd have to wait until I'm done to state my opinion on whether they should be included. They can be the best short stories in the world, but if they don't flow right with the rest of the books, I don't know. It might be worth changing some of the story if you are including them. For example, the only one I've started reading so far was the story of Nujus teacher Ihu. Perhaps a good time for this would be as a flashback when Nuju first arrives on mata nui (island) and thinks of Ihu as he's atop The mountain he later names Mt. Ihu.

  15. I found some Toa Hordika and Piraka stickers on eBay a while back as part of a Merlin's Premier Football Sticker Collection, and after a lot of research, found out that there were also these other stickers:

The 6 Toa inika stickers in the 2006-2007 kickoff premier league

The 6 barraki stickers in the 2007 league

The 6 mahri stickers in the 2007-08 kickoff

Examples of the stickers are https://goo.gl/images/DDWJT2

    https://goo.gl/images/iU5nJX

Does anyone have any of these? I'd be interested in buying or trading, especially for complete sets, or Toa Mahri Jaller and Kalmah.

  16.

Do you have a gram scale? If so, you could weigh it so we could have a guess at density - that'd be a pretty good noninvasive test, as steel has a quite different density from sterling silver (~8 g/cc vs 10.36 g/cc). Gold would have minimal impact due to being a very thin plating layer. It could also be copper (~9 g/cc), or something else entirely.

I don't have a precise jewelry scale, so I used a regular kitchen scale on mine and it seems to weigh 14 grams.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but that's very light. I have an antique gold coin that's pure gold and weighs 14 grams. Coins have a smaller radius and thickness than the Kanoka disks. I feel like it has to be gold plated plastic at that weight.
  17.

Actually, things tend to be big, bulky and blocky when first invented (like the Toa Mata, which is also a real-world example in the field of buildable action figures).

But compared to later Toa, the Mata were tiny and lean

Like, compare a mata limb to any later limbs. Their legs were always 1 unit thick, and the Inika lower leg pieces were huge compared to that.

    :kakama:

Didn't they retcon the skinny limbs as their muscle getting eaten away while they we floating in the ocean for millennia?

  18. Actually, things tend to be big, bulky and blocky when first invented (like the Toa Mata, which is also a real-world example in the field of buildable action figures).

I thought that the Mata we're bulky because of armor? I figured the skeleton was smaller and more fragile on inika, but had less armor and muscle. Plus the Mata were the only Toa not originating by the great beings weren't they? So the Toa Mata might also look that way because they were the only ones built by Artakha?

  19. But did they even really need prototypes?

    :kakama:

Logically, I think no. They didn't need protoypes. But we saw protoypes for a bit of their work. I mean since matoran were based on abori and had no extra powers, they shouldn't have needed protoypes there. But we saw the zyglak, which were a huge failure. So if they couldn't even manage to make matoran first time around, I feel like something more complicated like a Toa should have failed the first time around. At the same time, they did experiment a lot with Toa. We saw that the first Toa of psionics they were still tweaking things. I know I'm full of headcanons that are completely worthless without proof, but I like the thought of things connecting, so heres another headcanon...the Toa inika looked very different from any Toa ever. They got this way by being zapped by energy from the red star. But how did the red star have the design and framework to build them up? I always thought it would be interesting if their body type was a stored prototype in the computer. Also I like this idea because the inika we're skinny and fragile (as I imagine a prototype of a sentient robot might be).
