    Strakk

In my last entry, I said a local Fred Meyer store has the Glatorian. Today I was back and picked up Strakk. Here's a quick little review.

I'll skip the presentation aspect of the review.

    Building:

Building Strakk is about as quick as the standard canister set. In terms of new pieces, Strakk has 2 ice armor pieces, his head, his mask/helmet, thornax/launcher, life counter, hands, and his axe. The set uses an L shaped Mistiksa and Phantoka to Matoran connection piece to conect an inika torso to a Toa metru waist., making Strakk a bit different from what we have seen in the past.

    Set Design:

I like the new parts. The Thornax launcher works on the same premise as the Kanoka Launcher, squeeze the two sides together, and the thornax pops right out. I was able to get mine to fire about six feet before it hit the ground, then bounced another 3 feet. The ammo is fine, being made of rubber with a plastic band, but it would be nice if it could be shot from a zamour launcher, although the original launcher hasn't been released for a while so I guess it really doesnt matter.

The ice armor on the arms are probably my favorite new piece in the set. The white is hard plastic while the light blue is rubber. This effect is only on the armor, the mask/helmet and the axe are 100% plastic. The only thing I'm not too sure about on this armor is that it attaches to the front of the arms. I think it would have looked a little better had they been made to attach like the Inika arm armor.

The axe look great with the mix of white and blue. The Axe is a bit thin, so it would be a good idea not to be too rough with it.

The life counter does stick out a bit, but it can either easily be removed, or you can stand Strakk up with his back to a wall so you don't have to look at it.

The head and the mask/helmet. The head looks like Iron Man's head with + rod inserts on the top and sides. While you can use it to put on a Kanohi, I'd reccomend, using an older head because the new one does not fill up the mask. The helmet is not compatable with older heads. The head is smaller than the last ones. Those three + inserts do give the piece a bit of MoCing potential.

I don't really play with sets anymore, so I'll skip the playability portion.

    Final Thoughts:

I really like this set. It was fun to build.

    Pros:
    Hands
    2-toned pieces
uses Inika torso in a new way
    Head looks like iron man

    Cons:
    Costs $12.99
Mask/Helmet not compatable with Zamour launchers
    Flimsy Axe
Head does not fill up Kanohi
    Uses an Inika Torso
Life Counter sticks out a bit.
    No extra ammo

Until January, when Winter quarter starts. So I'll probably see more time at work, which is fine by me.

I'm hoping to take advantage to get back to drawing some of my personal projects which have been neglected for a while. Hopefully I'll have something new to show you guys.

A while back I posted the original version of Toa Attei. I recently started to make some minor modifications. I've altered the legs so that it no longer uses Nuparu Inika claws for armor. When I was working on it I realized that although I had already reinforced the torso after I posted the Moc, it is in need of a complete rebuild. I took off a single piece off the back of the torso and it lost it's stability. So I'll probably try to rebuild it, however I will need to decide if I should build a completely new torso, or make more modifications. At this point I'm leaning towards an entirely new torso.

... From my new Imac. I'm really glad I got this thing. I can finally play games that were made recently, and not 5 years ago like my last one.

I'm still looking for some good games. So far all i have is spore.* If anyone knows of any good fps, rts, or rpgs for the mac, or anything else thats good, please let e know.

*Kind of. It's actually my sister's game, so I can't create my own account or use the online features. I'll have to consider one day getting my own disk. After I get Microsoft Office. And some Adobe programs. And.....

Not much to report this week. Lots of cleaning at work to prepare the store for a visit from the company VP, so things are getting a bit chaotic. School this week was kinda slow. For english I had to watch Remember the Titans, talk about it throughout the week, then write a paper on it. Finally a good movie to watch for a school project. One of my art classes was cancelled this week because the instructor wasn't there. Hope everythings alright. In my other art class we're making shadow puppets. The assignment comes in three parts. The puppet itself, a performance, and then they go to the school art gallery. I've been having some fun with it.

I went bowling last night with my dad, brother, and some people they work with. I'd tell you how I did, but that would be way too embarrasing...

I've been doing some work on the Blog. I'd like to be able to add to the Links of Interest content block, so if there's anything you'd like to see there (Links to specific topics in the Reference Desk, your favorite official topic, your lates MoC or art topics), just PM me and I'll be happy to add it in.

A rather normal week this week. Had to write a paper for English, draw some stuff for my art classes, and go to work. I don't think I've said just what it is I do, so here it is. I work in a local retail store, where the store director usually gives me a to-do list. The list usually consists of things I need to clean, like trash cans, pillars, mirrors, freezer doors, and vending machines. No I do not clean bathrooms. Believe it or not, thats actually a management position (You have to be Haz-Mat trained for that job). Sometimes I pull carts out of the parking lot or move broken ones to a certain part of the store. Its a fun job.

In the gaming side of things, I bought the Wii Zapper today. Link's crossbow training is a lot more fun than it looks. For some reason I can't help but think of the old game Duck Hunt, one of my favorite games thats probably older than I am which I still have on my working NES. A small video game store opened up not far from where I live. I went in the other day, and saw something I'd never seen, at least not recently. Games for every single system since the NES lined the walls. I've finally found a place where I can get some "new" games for my NES, without downloading them from the Wii's virtual console.

I know, I'm a Nintendo fanboy at heart.

On the flipside, i've been playing Halo a lot. I've been trying to get some people together to go after the Vidmaster Annual achievement. I've found the people, now its just a time issue. I was excited to find out about Halo 3: Recon. Looks like now we all can haz Recon.

I may be posting a MoC in the BBC forum eventually. It will be my first Rahi MoC in years, I really like the way it came out. It looks a bit like a Bahrag head mixed with Graalok's body. Sorta. It's not the most custom MoC in the world, as I used at least 7 torso pieces, using three different kinds in 2 different colors. It should get an interesting reaction, if it even gets one at all

Thats about it for this week, see you next time. /report

Crazy week this week. My grandparents came over saturday, bringing my uncle back from Montana. I happened to catch a cold last weekend which caused me to have to leave work early on monday. Luckily I was able to work on thursday to make up for it. Unfortuneatly, I had to be at work by 6 AM. Way to early in my book. Schools going well, not much to report on there. Today happens to be my 19th birthday. My birthday started with work this morning at 8 o'clock. When I got off work, my dad and I got some pizza. Then we went to the local video store to use the last of a years free rentals that came with the Wii we got there a year ago.

As I was waiting to check out Guitar Hero Aerosmith, another guy there who was having trouble with his account pointed out a display of something called Hot n' Spicy Pickle in a Bag. It was literally one pickle sealed in a plastic bag. The guy wanted so badly for someone to buy one of the bagged pickles that he offered the employee there $20 to eat it. It didn't happen. When it was my turn to be helped, when opening my account to check out the game, the worker noticed it was my birthday, and I got two more rentals. So I picked out Iron Man, and let my dad check out Speed Racer.

Later, after rocking out on Guitar Hero for a couple of hours, the family took me to a local burger joint for dinner. Best burgers ever. After that we went shopping. I bought Mario Kart Wii with some Birthday money and my employee discount. On the way home we stopped at Dairy Queen to pick up my birthday cake. If you've never had a cake from Dairy Queen, you're missing out. We ate cake and watched Iron Man, then I played Mario Kart. Since I rented the game earlier this year, most of the stuff was already unlocked, so I just dove into the online game.

That's it for this week. /report

Welcome to the At-Sign Report. I am going to be posting blog updates on either a weekly basis, or whenever I can remember to post an entry.

This week, I posted in the What PM Title Do You Want? topic:

I actually got this PM earlier today. I just bought the Universe... with 55555's money.

On monday I started college. I'm taking a Graphic Design class, learning how to use Adobe Indesign. I'm in an art class, where we're talking about lines. Fun Stuff. My last class that I'm enrolled in is an online English class. So far its a bit more interesting than a standard class, although there is a bit more work involved.

On top of school, I also have work. I've spent a lot of time cleaning up the entrances of the store, picking up trash, moving carts from the parking lot into the store, cleaning fitting rooms, yadda, yadda, yadda.

BZPower has now been around for 7 years, And I have been a member for just over five of them. In this blog entry I'll be reflecting on my early days here, talk about now.

When I joined: When I first joined BZPower, I was rather new to the whole internet thing, and the only website I was a member of was the Lego Club (Man, has that sure changed). I had been a guest for a few months, spending time reading the news posts every day. Once I finally discovered the forums (23-December 03) , I joined the website, blissfully unaware that rules were rules on the internet. Yes I had been a part of the Lego Club for a while, but I only joined for the games ). So naturally, once I finally figured out how to reply to a topic, (Which was posted by someone who had sent in for a replacement orange Vahi, to discover that he recieved the last such kanohi in stock.) I posted a spammy response... Twice. That was when I discovered the proto-meter. I spent many years missing one proto point until recently, but more on that later.

A month later, Hapori Dume took over BZPower for a day. Not realizing that it was April Fools day, I actually thought that the site had changed, then logged off for a while, simply because I wasn't as active as I am now.

I was never a very active member until after I discovered Rayg's Halo kit. I spent a lot of time messing around with spritesheets learning how to use them. I even went as far as to make a very bad flash animation using them. Once Rayg stopped making sprites, I joined Voho in the Innerrayg Halo Kit Continuation Project. I spent a considerable time recoloring spritesheets for people to use.

When the project finally died out, I tried my hand at a few BBC contests, losing all of them in the first round. I always seemed to be put up against some of the best MoCist in BZPower every time.

I eventually started to move out of CoT and started making the bulk of my posts in General Discussion, which I still do.

I posted an epic about my Bionicle alter ego: Toa Attei, which I have built two MoCs of.

The Present: Well, I now have my proto meter back where it was when I first joined, thanks to an offer from Toys R Us and Black Six. I'm not involved with any big projects, and am just your average member of BZPower.

I'll end this entry with a sample of my artistic talents that aren't seen enough here on BZPower, something that may or may not change.
