My last shift at the coffee shop ended just an hour ago. The owners sold it, and the new owners decided they didn't need as many staff, so I was terminated.

It was really bittersweet saying goodbye. The place feels like home after working there for almost a year. I knew the menu backwards and forwards, could make every drink with one hand tied behind my back, and got to know dozens of regulars and their beverages of choice.

I met a lot of great people and learned some valuable skills. Overall, it was a really amazing experience, and I'm sad to leave. But, as always, the best is yet to come.

Good news: tomorrow marks one month as a vegetarian!

Bad news: I got in my first car accident today.

It wasn't my fault: I was driving up the street and a guy parked on the side didn't see me and pulled out ...right into my car.

There're a bunch of scratches and dents now, and of course it happened after a really long day when I really didn't feel up to handling it, but in the end it's just a car and while I am fond of it, it's still just a car.

In any case, I'm glad to go to bed now.

    Yay!

Unfortunately, with all the stress of the world ending, I had no time to think about new years' resolutions. Did anyone else, or do you just think there's no point?

Personally, I like new years' resolutions, just because of the whole idea that people are actually trying to better themselves. Granted, the stereotype is that we fail... but it's the thought that counts, right?

With that said, my resolution is... I dunno. Somebody give me one, or tell me what yours is so I can copy it!

I'm lost for words when confronted with the tragedy that occurred in Connecticut this morning. My thoughts and prayers go out to the grieving families and friends of the dead; may they be given peace that passes understanding.

The picture to the left of this post is actually a picture of me.

I keep bumping my wireless mouse into the garbage can next to my desk.

I listened to the same song for an hour and a half on repeat and didn't realize it.

Sometimes I think of old members who have left and I miss them, because I'm an old geezer who joined these forums before most of you were born.

When Lady K made a blog post it made me feel fuzzy inside.

I am Angela, and Angela is all of us.

If I were ever made staff I would choose to moderate the Short Stories forum because nothing ever happens there and I could be staff without ever actually doing anything (HINT HINT GO TAKE A PEEK IN THE SS FORUM BRING LIFE BACK TO THE LIBRARY)

If you are reading this, I love you.

If you are not reading this, there is a special place in my heart for you, too, don't worry.

It is now bedtime. Good night.

Tune in next week for more random Eyru facts (and that, ladies and gentlemen, is a fact).

As was related in my previous entry, I am now an employee of an adorable little coffee shop. I have worked four shifts so far, and learned a little more with each shift.

My first shift, as you know, I started out washing dishes. My second shift saw me working the till and learning how to pull a shot of espresso.

My third and fourth shifts were interesting.

Saturday was my third day. I learned how to steam milk (which turned out to be way easier than I had thought it would be), and then began to make some simple drinks. Make some espresso, steam some milk, and suddenly you've got a latte! It's amazing! And it's only a short step from making lattes to making mochas, cappuccinos, and macchiatos.

I also learned how to make iced drinks (it was a big day). It's basically the same as making a hot drink, except you add ice and use cold milk instead of steamed milk. I made myself the best iced caramel macchiato I've ever had, which wasn't hard to do, because the majority of my coffee experience has seen me at Starbucks.

Yeah, I don't really care for Starbucks. But that's a story for another day!

Yesterday was my fourth shift, and it was so busy I didn't make a single coffee! We pretty much had a constant flow of customers, so I stayed on the till while my coworker (who just so happens to be a friend of mine) made the hot drinks. I poured ice for the cold drinks and made smoothies (which are delicious), and sold sandwiches, bottled drinks, and soup. My four hours went by like a rocket, and seemed as though I'd hardly started when my shift was over and I could go.

Now for a word about some of our customers.

I've gotten to know some of our regulars, and one of them is named Bill*. Bill comes in every morning and buys a medium coffee to go. He chats a bit, then leaves. Sounds pretty normal right?

Well, Bill actually comes back to the cafe every few hours to buy a refill. I'd estimate he comes in four or five times a day. My supervisor (who just so happens to be one of the coolest people I know) isn't really sure if she's supposed to sell refills to people who have left the building, but she sells them to him anyway. Bill has been frequenting the place for years, and he knows exactly how much everything costs. He pays for everything he buys with exact change, right down to the last penny. When he buys a coffee, he sets down two dollars and twenty-four cents on the counter. Every time he comes in for a refill, he places seventy-three cents down on the counter. He's amazing.

There are plenty of other customers with just as much personality as him, but they'll have to wait for another day. That's all for now folks.

    *not his real name.

Two friends of mine are getting married today.

Weddings are a good time. Everyone's happy and celebrating and just having a party. It's like we save up our everyday joy and then blow it all in one extravagant occasion.

On another note, it's really weird that my friends are starting to get married. It makes me wonder if I missed a memo...

If you guessed my car keys, you're right.

Yeah, so last night's Canucks game was so disappointing I guess I accidentally locked my keys in my car. I've got my keys back now, but I'm $40 poorer. Hopefully it's a lesson learned and won't do that again.

And if the Canucks win tomorrow, maybe that'll make up for it.

    I have an idea!

I'll write a serial, and post it on my blog. People can comment on it and request for things to happen next, and then they will! It'll be like Bioniclestory meets BZPStuck.

Or I could just post photos on my blog. Of ordinary things. And write commentary for them until thay become EXTRAordinary.

What else could I do to spice my blog up? Suggestions, comrades!

A rather ferocious storm came up last night: rain, snow, 100km/h winds, the works.

Half of town lost power, so school was cancelled. I was fortunate enough to have power all day, because I live close enough to the hospital to share its grid.

Needless to say, it was a nice day.

To be perfectly honest, I like storms, regardless of whether or not I lose power. At least, I like them when I'm inside and not out in them. That's one thing I miss about living on the prairies: the powerful storms, with hail, lashing rain, and lightning.

Ah, yes. I miss lightning very much. For those of you who have never personally beheld a lightning storm, it is an amazing sight. My old house had a large bay window, perfect for breathlessly scanning the dark skies for that flash of electricity.

STATUS UPDATE: Eyru is waxing nostalgic. Everybody stay calm.

Today is Leap Day: that is, February 29th, a day that only comes around every four years. Yay!

However, in my little corner of the world (aka Canada), today is also Anti-Bullying Day! Everyone wears a pink shirt as a small way of saying that bullying is not okay. Now only at school, but everywhere.

Being me, though, and not being inclined to take the easy route, I went all out. Pink pants, pink dress shirt, pink tie, pink scarf... it was a lot of fun, and a great way to remind people that bullying is definitely not cool.

I may upload a pic later, just because it was so great (but I'll be sure to scrub out my face because this is the internetz).

In other news, continue suggesting names, and the voting will begin tomorrow!

Biology 12 exam today. Wish me luck. I'm kind of dreading this exam because Bio 12 is one of those information-heavy courses that pretty much requires you to memorize everything, and I've always preferred performance-based tests to those based solely on the ability to regurgitate information. Yup, give me an essay any day of the week.

On the other hand, it'll be nice to just get it over with so I don't have to think about it anymore.

Also, if you happen to understand the difference between DNA and RNA, or the difference between dendrites and axoms, or how much ATP is produced by the electron transport chain versus glycolysis or the citric acid cycle, then try hard to develop telepathy and send that info to me, because I know it now, but, knowing me, I'll probably forget it when I've actually got the exam in front of me.

Now to study for the few hours I have left...

Anyone else have exams coming up? Are you nervous or excited to get it over with?

    Happy New Year!

In other news, I beat Skyward Sword a week ago in case you are interested. I'm working on completing all the sidequests and obtaining all the heart pieces now.

More other news: I miss the BZPRPG. I'm going to get involved again in the new year (although probably not to the extent I was involved last year; graduation and all that). Maybe just a character or two, but it's going to happen. Probably.

Even more other news: LoTR LEGO has me crying for joy.

Last piece of other news: I love you. Bye now.

    My word.

It has been a while, hasn't it?

I'd comment on the dust, but with everything looking so brand-spankin' new, I don't think there's any to be found. I'll probably be spending the next few weeks breaking seven-year-old habits and figuring out how everything on this new site works.

That includes getting back into the BZPRPG- having done no RPing for how long now? Five months? Wow. I'm feeling quite rusty, and even a nice browse through the archives wasn't really enough to remind me of all the stuff I need to know. But I'm sure we'll figure it out as we go.

I was debating whether to do a quick run-through of the last five months of my life, but of course y'all wouldn't be much interested in that, eh? I'm seventeen, whoop-de-do, let's move on.

When last we left, I was changing my name using a unique and (if I say so myself) pretty darn cool method. I'll be postponing that for now, as I kinda want to keep my regular name kickin' around until we all get settled in.

Finally, a huge round of applause to Six, Bink, Dimensioneer, and the rest of our staff for an incredible new forum! It's really looking fantastic, and I can hardly wait to start posting!

Oh, one more thing- seeing as I haven't talked with anyone here for five months, how's everybody doing? How was life without BZP? Leave a comment telling me what you did while the forums were down!

    That's me, all right.

I just wrote my first short story since December 31, 2009, and would love for anyone to check it out, or maybe even review it?

I'm not deperate,[/lies] but I would sure appreciate any comments and criticism.

In other news, BZPRPG is fun, as usual.

    Return

    Read this.

It's not my work. I'm not advertising something I wrote. This is a beautiful, poignant short story; one of the best I've ever read. Do yourself a favour and read it, because it's honestly brilliant.

    Man In The Mirror
    Michael Jackson

Ooh ooh ooh aah Gotta make a change
    For once in my life
    It's gonna feel real good
    Gonna make a difference
    Gonna make it right

As I turned up the collar on
    A favorite winter coat
This wind is blowin' my mind
I see the kids in the street
    With not enough to eat
Who am I to be blind
Pretending not to see their needs

    A summer's disregard
    A broken bottle top
    And a one man's soul
    They follow each other
    On the wind ya' know
'Cause they got nowhere to go
That's why I want you to know

I'm starting with the man in the mirror
I'm asking him to change his ways
And no message could have been any clearer
If you wanna make the world a better place
Take a look at yourself and then make a change, yey
Na na na, na na na, na na na na oh ho

    I've been a victim of
    A selfish kinda love
    It's time that I realize
There are some with no home
    Not a nickel to loan
Could it be really pretending that they're not alone

    A willow deeply scarred
    Somebody's broken heart
    And a washed out dream
    (Washed out dream)
They follow the pattern of the wind ya' see
'Cause they got no place to be
That's why I'm starting with me

I'm starting with the man in the mirror
I'm asking him to change his ways
And no message could have been any clearer
If you wanna make the world a better place
Take a look at yourself and then make a change

I'm starting with the man in the mirror
I'm asking him to change his ways
And no message could have been any clearer
If you wanna make the world a better place
Take a look at yourself and then make that change

I'm starting with the man in the mirror
(Man in the mirror, oh yeah)
I'm asking him to change his ways, yeah
    (Change)
No message could have been any clearer
If you wanna make the world a better place
Take a look at yourself and then make the change
You gotta get it right, while you got the time
'Cause when you close your heart
(You can't close your, your mind)
    Then you close your mind

(That man, that man, that man)
(That man, that man, that man)
(With the man in the mirror, oh yeah)
(That man you know, that man you know)
(That man you know, that man you know)
I'm asking him to change his ways
    (Change)
No message could have been any clearer
If you wanna make the world a better place
Take a look at yourself then make that change

(Na na na, na na na, na na na na)
    Ooh, oh yeah
Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
(Na na na, na na na, na na na na)

    Oh no
Oh no, I'm gonna make a change
    It's gonna feel real good
    Sure mon
    (Change)
    Just lift yourself
You know, you got to stop it yourself
    (Yeah)
    Oh, make that change
(I gotta make that change today, oh)
    (Man in the mirror)
You got to, you got to not let yourself, brother oh
    Yeah, you know that
    (Make that change)
(I gotta make that make me then make)
You got, you got to move
    Sure mon, sure mon
    You got to
(Stand up, stand up, stand up)
    Make that change
Stand up and lift yourself, now
    (Man in the mirror)
    Make that change
(Gonna make that change, sure mon)
    (Man in the mirror)
You know it, you know it, you know it, you know
    (Change)
    Make that change

It's a new year, with new opportunities to change the man (or woman) that you see in the mirror. Opportunities to make our world a better place.

    Happy New Year 2011!
