  1. To the contrary, someone over on Eurobricks seems to have gotten a passage that identifies Korgot (the protector of earth) as a woman. No confirmation yet, but if it's true this is actually a pretty big step for BIONICLE to take.

    did they really? :o

of course, there still needs to be more female characters, but this is pretty exciting for me to hear!

  2. personally i dont care about names, what stands out to me is that they made them all male characters. it seems like any time lego has tried to break away from having monogender elements, it always comes only at the expense of the female characters, writing them to be male instead, rather than trying to make any attempt to keep any sort of real balance. its bara magna all over again, and i dont know about anyone else, but im a bit disappointed. i at least hope that future waves of sets wont make the same mistake of having one explicitly stated female character in a cast of twenty.

  3. i saw the news and i couldnt believe it, even after i saw multiple sources reporting it. hes had a profound personal effect on my life, not just because of the games hes worked on, but also because of the friends ive made over the years through those games. may he rest well.

  4. my god when did we get this handy dandy new form submission thingy

heres the topic for my entry, but since according to the form the topic is optional and isnt required, are we allowed to like, put something else there? for future reference, would i be allowed to use a tumblr post or something for that url? or does it at least have to be a bzp topic

    BZPower topics only, please.

i take it that also excludes bzp blog posts then too?

i find pohatus okoto mask being dark orange to be a blessing. however i also have taken its design to be a blessing as well, because ive noticed a faint resemblance to photoks mask.

ergo, i decided to build a quick photok for this contest, because i also happen to like photok.

  7. some assorted g1 headcanons

    • tamaru is trans - before you sit here and hit me with "theyre robots and gender doesnt work the same way as humans" or whatever, tamaru is also trans in the context of how gender would work in matoran society as well, specifically she would be the matoran equivalent of a trans girl
    • during the rebuilding ceremony, she decided to rebuild her body specifically using the design for ga-matoran, instead of the one for le-matoran as she was supposed to. she still kept her teal/lime colour scheme, though, which is the only thing that really sets her apart from the residents of ga-koro, which is where she spends a good amount of her time, due to her fear of heights yet passion for swimming, which she is now especially adept at due to her new aquatically specialized ga-matoran frame
    • after seeing the workers during the miners strike affix candles to their masks and seeing the potential safety hazard, nuparu designed specialized armour additions that workers could affix candles or lightstones to, to eliminate the risk of hot candle wax dripping behind a workers mask vents and burning their face
    • nuparu and a small team of engineers also were the ones to design the rebuilt torsos. given to them by the turaga were designs for the rebuild (the engineers didnt know these were how the matoran originally looked on metru nui), however they decided to deviate from these designs, both because of the limited resources on mata nui and to give the populace more varied bodies that were more suited to their respective environments, such as burlier bodies for onu-matoran, smaller more aquatic forms for ga-matoran, more athletic forms for po-matoran, etc. after initial blueprints were made, they made further alterations to the designs by rebuilding each other as they went along, sometimes completely de-building themselves back to their original small forms if a design seemed like a lost cause. they would often test the actual capabilities of their designs at night when the sun was down and the rest of the island was asleep. these two things combined resulted in many injuries. they would occasionally, but not often, show the turaga their progress, or perhaps vaguely ask villagers of other koro what the ideal build for their environment would be, for advice on how to design the armour.
    • kapura has issues with dissociation
    • lewa suffers from ptsd
    • pohatu still has eye problems after the nui-jaga attack during mnog

uhh thats actually all i have right now? i thought i had more and i thought i had some that werent so pre-metru nui specific but oh well. maybe ill get some more later

  8. I think the story team is actively trying to avoid the over-world-building that toppled G1.

i kinda gotta disagree here. yeah there was way too much world-building and canonization for things that ultimately didnt matter, but i really dont think individualizing the matoran in g1 was complicit in that

i feel that by giving the matoran some individuality and showing their daily lives behind the scenes of the main plot, it really added a lot of depth to the story, even if it was minor stuff that wasnt necessarily crucial to the plot. it still showed that Life Goes On even when youve got a bunch of bad guys wreaking havoc and it showed just how hardy the matoran populace was, even without toa (see: mnog and the bohrok animations, voya nui)

there was just as much put into the environment and its inhabitants as there was the toa themselves and it helped feel like the little guys were just as important to the goings-on of the plot as the main protagonists rather than just being nameless npcs

it also helped show that you didnt need to be some big powerful being with a lot of powers to be able to make a difference (again, the entirety of mnog)

not to mention, it gave the toa themselves a little bit more to their character by showing them helping their own people in a more direct, personal way (such as pohatu helping the po-matoran during the tahnok invasion, tahu rescuing takua from lava in mol, etc).

so yeah i definitely think we should pay more attention to the okoto villagers and give them some more individuality

  9. The skyblaster was a marble shooter, shame it got replaced with a fruit chucker.

why do you think the thornax launchers were so great? theres no concept funnier than lobbing explosive fruit at your enemies :V

i actually did pick thornax. like, as launchers, theyre just sooo simple? theyre a simple concept, simple builds, simple execution, lots of room for customization, the individual launcher parts could be used for other things, they could also fire zamor spheres which a lot of people likely already had a lot of at that point
