  2. do yall remember those little mini catalogs that would come with sets? ok well i got one of those in a set i got for christmas 2000. and they had this pic of onua, yknow the iconic one of him diggin underground. and probs the other toa, idr tho. and i was like "oh man Oh Man these guys are just like the throwbots" and i had to get them, because i had all the throwbots

i did not get any bionicle sets until summer 2001. but then i got kopaka. i remember i had a lot of adventures with him and frost (the roborider) out in the courtyard of our apartment complex we were living in at the time. it was SO awesome. i hope to have more sweet adventures with gen 2 kopaka tbh

kopaka then became one of my Best Friends tbh, i took him everywhere. after we moved i met a friend who was also into bionicle, we would go hang out downtown and at the train tracks and i would bring kopaka and he would bring tahu and it was cool. we had cool adventures

ok that is actually multiple memories but ultimately it ends up being that my first memory is falling head over heels for kopaka and taking him absolutely everywhere

  3. tamaru is a trans girl in fact everyone is either a trans girl or nonbinary but thats the big one

also who cares if a headcanon is "invalid" or "goes against canon". who cares, who literally cares. if you dont like it then ignore it and stick to canon like youre so desperate for everyone else to do

  4. About the "assuming a character is cis is by default is hurtful and marginalizing" thing.

"Cis" people are the default. Less than 1% of the world's population is transgender.

It's just not something that occurs to most people when creating characters, and you can't blame someone for forgetting to include gender-variant characters. Statistics back it up.

you realize 1% of the worlds population is still seventy million, right

thats still a significant number and thats just the people who have had the courage to come out

Do I really need to explain why a female character should be played by a female actor?

do we really need to explain again that the point is that, in this specific animation, gali was voiced by a male actor, and based on that, trans women decided to headcanon one single character as a trans woman? which still makes her female? do we really need to explain that again?

id rather you explain to us why its such a big deal and why yall are so bent out of shape about us having a literally harmless headcanon

  5. I'm not saying we can't have headcanons. I'm just saying that Gali should have a female voice actor because, you know, she's a woman? Just like the website and video and actual owners of her say she is? Just like she was in the first generation?

I'm just saying: Gali is a female Toa and she should have a woman actor.

gali would still be a woman even if she had a deep voice and was trans. her having a deep voice doesnt take away the fact that she is a woman AT ALL.

  6. I'm not sure how you're reading my comment. I never said transgender women aren't women (though admittedly I'm especially terrible at writing anything, so maybe I did in a way). What I tried to say is that it makes no sense to say that Gali could be transgender or whatever sexuality just because a guy voiced her.

Here we all go again, arguing in an endless debate about sexuality in children's plastic toys. Yeesh.

being transgender and talking about characters being transgender has NOTHING to do with sexuality. its gender. gender. GENDER. NOT sexuality.

anyway, thats exactly pretty much what you said. also, it makes no sense to assume gali is automatically cis either. it made sense to arc and i, because we are trans, and when we hear a female character with a deeper voice, we see ourselves in that, and we give our two cents on why she is like that, because we feel like she is like us.

the op asked for our comments on gali being voiced by a guy. we gave our thoughts that she was trans. yall are the ones trying to twist it into a pointless debate and trying to tell us that were wrong for seeing a character as being similar to us based on what we notice compared to our own experiences.

  7. I feel like the insistence that Gali is canonically transgender is only confusing the issue more.

    uhhhh

how?? theres nothing confusing about it.

To suggest otherwise only eggs on the kind of people who are jeering at the new narrator and further confuses people who are genuinely unclear about the new Gali's canon gender.

theres nothing unclear about it! theres nothing unclear about it at all. whether or not she is trans or cis, shes still female. thats still her gender.

Also, I feel that if you have to headcanon a character as transgender, it'd make more sense to pick any character other than Gali.

    ?? no ??

if the new Gali is interpreted as trans, it basically erases the only confirmed female cisgender character in the new story. I don't think it's that fair to add one kind of diversity at the expense of another.

?? SHES STILL FEMALE. she is still female. even if she is still trans. she is still female. and there are MANY less trans woman characters then cis woman characters in media in general. we as a group are horribly HORRIBLY underrepresented in media, and when we are its usually with us at the butt of a joke about how were "actually men".

you have an entirely wrong concept of what it means to have a diverse cast imo. her being trans doesnt change the fact that shed still be female and it would provide a good character for younger kids to look up to, especially young trans kids, who otherwise are going to grow up feeling demonized for who they are and afraid to come out.

also, i do not think we are overthinking it. the op posted about how gali has a deeper voice. we are posting why we think that is. thats not overthinking it at all. that is literally contributing to an otherwise kinda pointless and nebulous topic.

  8. 1) I wasn't saying what Lego did with Gali's voice is stereotypically wrong, I rather meant that it was better what Lego did in contrast with what could've happened. I think it's stereotypically off to give Gali a super squeaky and "girly" voice, when really while women do have less deep voices to men, they aren't as they are often mis-portrayed in media. Squeaky voices for women seem like a stereotype to me.

2)...I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic for some reason. That's a pretty true statement that sadly many don't actually understand. If it sounds overly obvious, sorry, but to some it isn't.

    (1) if she did have a high pitched voice then who cares? some women do have high pitched voices. it literally has zero bearing on her character

    (2) i was being WAY sarcastic because what you said makes no sense to me. her being a girl is again, something that has no bearing on whether or not she has a heroic vibe at all. the idea that writers arent allowed to "have girls just to have girls" is honestly one of the worst things out there because honestly, it pretty much says that guys are The Default Hero and women have to somehow go through ten thousand hoops to be justified as Making Sense or whatever, especially when so many stories have cruddy, flat, one-dimensional male characters that people swoon over anyway.

  9. I actually hoped Gali would have a voice that would be strong and not super stereotypically wrong. I want her to have the vibe of a hero and be a character that anyone can look to and see that, and not just be a girl to be a girl.

    (1) how is this stereotypically wrong

    (2) she can still have that vibe AND be a female character?? wow

    (3) literally what does "not just be a girl to be a girl" even mean

  10. thats pretty cool, it pulls off the insectoid look really well

i also like how the white looks, as if its meant to represent pine wood or something (hence the name pine buzzer i guess?)

the only thing i dont like is the slizer legs as the back legs? another pair of toa mata arms would have looked good i think, because the serrated forearms look like theyd be good as insect legs, plus ball joints look kinda weird on insects

other than that, good stuff op

  11. I don't really want minidolls in the film TBH

    you uh

like i dont wanna be the one to rain on your parade but like. you realize girl minifigs exist right. like. there are actual minifigs that are characters that are women. i just want to be absolutely sure that you understand that minidolls are not a necessity here just because there will be ladies. i really really want to be clear on this

also why is everyone so worried that building up female characters will somehow "detract from the plot" yet nobody makes that complaint about an overabundance of male characters like. why does the ladies characterization have to be separate from the plot while the dudes are somehow integral to it

im pretty sure the same amount of time will be spent on gals as guys for characterization and it wont take away from the plot at all. it wouldnt take away from the plot if all the characters were women tbh

  12. but on the other hand i like that the community has shrunk a little bit, its reminiscient of bzpowers early days when everyone was closer-knit and everything seemed more easy-going

    shrug

Given your join date (end of 2004), which "early days" are you referring to? 2005?

actually i was around before then. i just didnt join as a member

  13. personally my opinions torn

on one hand i dont like how rtf editor is the default for posting and in general the site looks too sterile to me

but on the other hand i like that the community has shrunk a little bit, its reminiscient of bzpowers early days when everyone was closer-knit and everything seemed more easy-going
