Day Run needs your help! It's tied with two other entries for third place and chances are that it's going to be knocked back into fourth by tomorrow! But YOU can help!

Just go to the RPG Contest #23 Final Poll and vote for entry #2 (and also #5, Beat and Rhythm)! Quickly! Without your vote Day Run may never see a full conclusion--and that would be bad!

    Also now with COOKIES! 8D

Oh, and don't forget the awesome song that just happens to fit this situation!

    I
    have wondered about you
    Where will you be
    when this is through?
    If all
    If all goes as planned
    Will you redeem
    my life again?
    My life again?

Fire the fields the weed is sown
    Water down your empty soul
Wake the sea of silent hope
    Water down your empty soul

Fight your foes you're not alone
Holy war is on the phone
Asking to please stay on hold
The bleeding loss of blood runs cold

And I need you to recover
Because I can't make it on my own

And I need you to recover
Because I can't make it on my own

    I
    have wondered about you
    Where will you be
    when this is through?
    If all
    If all goes as planned
    Will you redeem
    my life again?

    Yo.

So as of now, Day Run is in third with a two vote lead--and that's fantastic! With the final poll closing tomorrow, we only need a few more votes to absolutely secure a victory. So I would like to encourage everyone who hasn't to keep on voting, and to spread the word if they so wish!

As part of this encouragement, I'm writing up a really long, almost short story-like opening post for Day Run as we speak! With luck, I'll have it ready by tomorrow--and a part of it posted here before the finals end!

So yeah. Vote Day Run! 8D
  3. Parugi
So there are only ten hours left of voting, and Day Run is barely holding its place in third. Perhaps this will have convinced some of you guys to give it a few more votes--and given everyone an idea of just what might be in store for the future... >=)

Final poll, entry #2. Vote Day Run!
  4. Parugi
So I finally beat Mass Effect 1 yesterday. That music during the credits is like, my favorite song ever now.

Also, I'm pleased to notice that Day Run has reached 30 votes and has been leading its poll since yesterday. This is quite fantastic and I love everyone who has voted for it very much.

Now let's keep pushing it into and through the finals!
  5. Parugi
Hey guys. So the final poll for the RPG contest has begun. I'd just like to remind everyone to consider voting for Day Run in the finals if you aren't already planning on doing so--there's a lot of stuff in Day Run that you won't find anywhere else, and it's just going to be a fun time if we get a final season. So you should totally consider it.

For those wondering, the poll can be found here. Day Run is entry #2.

I also want to thank everyone for voting for Day Run in the preliminary polls--Day Run ended up with a six point lead in its poll, and I can only attribute that to every else who has voted for it. So thanks a ton, and let's work to keep that kind of lead in the finals!

    Also, some fitting some lyrics:

    I
    have wondered about you
    Where will you be

    If all
    If all goes as planned
    Will you redeem

It has begun, and Day Run has four votes!

I would like to encourage everyone to vote for Day Run for the next week of voting. To vote for it is to show your support for the continuation and completion of a fantastic story that is unlikely to get a full conclusion after this next season. So please give it some serious consideration as you cast your votes!

Reasons to vote for it include, in addition to the above:
    Mecha/vehicles of all types
    An awesome story
    Zombies
    Giant robots
    NGE-inspired enemies
    Gang wars
    Disembodied hearts, eyes and souls
    Ancient artifacts
    Heavily foreshadowed apocalypses
    Dark Hunters
    Mystery
    Conspiracies
    Awesome villains
    Awesome heroes
    Awesome players
    And much, much more!

    Hey. How's it going?

    Going good? That's good.

Say, you know what's going on right now? RPG Contest #23. That's what's going on.

Did you know that you get three votes per poll in RPG Contests? Yeah, who knew, right?

I bet you also didn't know that voting for this contest begins on Saturday. Yeah, that's right: Saturday. And you have three votes.

Some of you probably already have your top choices picked out. That's cool. But for those of you who don't, here's something to consider:

    Day Run.

    Yes. Day Run.

It'd be awesome if you voted for it. You know why? Because this. That is why.

As you can see by clicking on that link, Day Run is awesome. And fantastic--which is always good. So you should vote for it.

Especially since, you know, you have three votes. And Day Run would only use one.

    also we have cookies.

Hello again, BZPower! I'm back with another two or so weeks of "Support Day Run!!" messages.

I'm not going to say much--the end result of the RPG Contest will largely fall into the hands of the people who frequent that forum, anyway--but I would like to make a case for why Day Run is a good choice. So please, if you would...

    Consider the Following

What is Day Run: The Garden?
Day Run: The Garden is an RPG that was put together by Parugi, moderated by Parugi, and played by Parugi and a boatload of other people -- including familiar faces such as Kal the Guardian, Toa of Dancing, iBrow, and The Dreadful Flying Glove, just to name a few. The sequel to the widely popular Night Ride (2009,) Day Run focused on the continued existence of -- you guessed it -- the Day Run! Caught in the middle of a conflict between a gang called the Ring and the local Kai-Nam Police Department -- obviously on the island of Kai-Nam -- the players in Day Run participated in all sorts of things, ranging from attempts to stop the war, perpetuate it, discover the secrets of the island, and playing in the in-game tournament.

But that's not all! Above all of that, the players in Day Run were key in revealing the truth about what the Ring-KNPD conflict was really about. In their adventures, it was discovered that the Ring was responsible for almost every terrible thing that had come to occur on the island, including the war and the creation of the KNPD itself. They found that not only did Lyxek, the leader of the Ring, have some sort of greater hand in creating the primary conflict, he was also working to resurrect a strange being named Rhashahk, through the use of the war, the KNPD, the Day Run, and a number of extremely versatile, resilient and dangerous mechanical creations that he dubbed "Constructs." In his attempts at power, he had begun to gather a number of ancient artifacts, culminating in his sending a team of Dark Hunters to the island of Gynel -- the center of Night Ride -- to complete his search -- and at the same time, unleashing a massive Construct known as the Searcher upon Kai-Nam.

    What happened after that?
The game froze. We ran out of time. Some would argue that this is a reason not to vote for Day Run -- that it had multiple seasons with which to finish up -- but I disagree. For one, a number of things occurred that slowed down Day Run before our final three months ran out -- for example, the massive downtime last year, which caused a number of players to disappear and delayed an equally large number of events because it was assumed that they would return, and they never did.

I digress. What I'm trying to say is that despite its multiple seasons, Day Run was unable to finish what it started, and that's bad. No one likes an unfinished story, especially when it gets canceled right in the middle of being completed.

Specifically, a number of plots were left unfinished. We never found out who Rhashahk was. We don't know who or what the Director truly is, or who built him. We don't know how the Feranaki survived. We don't know how the Dark Hunters' mission ends. Why is the Searcher lying dormant in the Barrens? What will become of those affected by its powers? Who is Lyccir? What is in the Garden? Will the rebellion of the Day Run and the Guild of Tyis actually work against the combined Ring and KNPD influence? What is Dalmia planning? Heck, what is Lyxek really planning, and how did the Director intend to use Illuxio against him?

So why vote for it, exactly?
    Multiple reasons. Consider this.
It's a popular game. In almost every contest it has been in, it's received one of the top spots -- and, in fact, almost won the last contest before a number of people siphoned their votes off to different entries at the last minute (which, thankfully, is fixed this contest.) Consider the number of people who wanted it to be made, and how many people were saddened by the fact that it couldn't continue.
It's a guaranteed solid game-play experience -- it kind of has to be considering the amount of time that it got to stick around for. It has a well-built story, its mechanics are tried and true, it's not that difficult to jump in to, and it's just a fun game in general, full of mystery and action. Ask any of the people who played in it -- they'll say something similar.
There is a lot for the players to do, both in and out of the main story -- places to explore, mysteries to unravel, a racing and fighting tournament that they can participate in, for Pete's sake! And starting with its next season? Even more! Random events, more civilian interaction, things to get involved in!
There is so much customization that you can do! I'm not picky about weapons, masks, elements, or even vehicles, as long as you don't intentionally try to go overboard!
Your actions influence the main story -- just ask Kal the Guardian or iBrow (currently Kermit the Pyro)! I can think of three or four player choices and actions that drastically changed what I had originally planned, in most cases for the betterment of the story. Day Run isn't a GM-Totalitarian game -- there is a very large amount of freedom for the players in terms of term influence.
Not to mention, you'd be making a lot of people happy by voting for it, as it would give them the chance to finish what they helped to start -- and then you could get in on the fun, too! It's a win-win situation!

I hope this at least makes you consider voting for Day Run when the time comes -- and believe me, I mean it when I say that I really hope you at least consider it. Getting a chance to finish up Day Run alongside the players who brought it to where it is would be, in my opinion, a fantastic opportunity for me, especially as I don't know if I'm going to have time to run it after this upcoming season.

But anyway, if you want to look at it yourself, see it here. If you want to offer a public opinion, post it here or in this very blog entry! And if you have any questions, comments, or concerns, feel free to post them or PM me -- I'm happy to answer anything!

I'd also like to direct you to Dreamland: Awakening. A currently-running RPG by Kal the Guardian, Dreamland is a great game that I, sadly, have not had much time to play. Regardless, Kal, too, hopes to finish it, and so your support would be greatly appreciated.

RPG Contest #23 has begun. So here's my schedule for the next two weeks regarding Day Run:

March 2-4 - Finish editing and enter Day Run.
March 10 - Broken Unity rewrite begins.
At some point in the next three weeks - A continuation of "One" will be posted.

Also, some exciting news! Yesterday my school district had a Junior Career Convention, where we basically learned a bunch of stuff relating to getting jobs. I talked to one of the speakers there and he told me that he would get me in touch with a columnist/novelist in Eugene, OR -- which means that some sort of writing based job could very well be in my near future!

Nothing's set in stone at the moment, however. But still; something is bound to come out of this.

Hey, all. I'm looking for opinions on what all I can condense/change/reword/fix/you name it for Day Run. With three days left before the RPG Contest entry period starts, I'm looking to get this done as soon as possible so that I can jump on adapting it for the contest theme once I get the chance.

    The current draft is below.

  11. Parugi
So I just heard from an anonymous source that the theme for the next RPG contest is going to be crime scene investigation. As in, investigating a major murder is going to have to be a central plot point.

If you are in Day Run, then you realize the implications of this.

HINT: I can't enter Day Run, because that's not a central plot point in its story! DX

Now, if you're like me, then you are unhappy about this. Believe me... so am I. I just said that. But never fear! To honor Day Run and its eventual epic, I'm still entering this contest -- with a NEW entry!

Behold; I give you the very first sneak peek of

It was an unusually cold day in the streets of Ta-Koro. At least, that's what it felt like to Detective Tahu as he approached a taped-off section of the road; on days like today, even the Mangai could freeze solid. Still, chilled by the shock of another murder or not, the Toa had a job to do. The presence of a dozen other beings, all of them probing the area or deceased for evidence, was a testament to that.

As he stepped over the tape, he scanned the area for the victim. Spotting him, Detective Gali gave a slight nod, which Tahu returned. Finding the body, he quickly approached it, noting the presence of Pohatu. The Toa of Stone held a camera in his hands, and was busy taking pictures for later reference.

"Pohatu," Tahu said shortly, nodding at his comrade. Pohatu looked at the new arrival, returning the nod. "What've we got here?"

"Name's Kapura," Pohatu said quietly, taking another photograph. "Vakama's right-hand. Witnesses say he was delivering a message when he got attacked, but he didn't seem to try to fight back. The message is nowhere to be found."

"So it's aggravated assault." Pohatu nodded. Tahu stooped down, carefully examining the Matoran through the lenses of his sunglasses. He noted a couple of wounds in Kapura's stomach, bloodied and bruised. "I don't suppose they saw the killing blow?"

"The general verdict seems to be that the victim was impaled with a trident-like tool," Pohatu replied. Tahu was silent. "Judging from what we've uncovered, it seems the killer had some sort of interest in the letter."

"Which explains why it's gone. Though why the victim didn't try to fight him off or run away..." Tahu trailed off, standing up again. "Either our guy took the letter..." The Toa of Fire pulled off his sunglasses. "Or Kapura forked it over."

    YEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAA

So, there you go! Expect to see the first full draft of this baby up in a week or so. =)
  12. Parugi
    Two days late. Oh well.

Anyway, as I said in my last entry, I need to modify and streamline Day Run's opening post for the RPG contest next month. Frankly, it's a bit cluttered right now, and I'm not entirely sure that some of the stuff still in it needs to be there. At the moment, I'm planning on shortening some of the longer sections and updating information with the Factions section to be more up to date, but aside from that, I'm not sure what all I should modify.

So, that in mind, I'm looking for peoples' suggestions on what sections/rules/other things need to be edited. As well, I want to ask for your opinions -- if you played the game or observed it to a point where you have a legitimate gripe with the way I've run things, I would like to know what you all think I could do better as Day Run's GM if it comes back. Basically, how can I improve the game and the way I run it?

    Thanks in advance. =)
  13. Parugi
    Activity has increased.

    I am happy.

As a result, here's a thought to anyone reading this who has not yet joined: If you have not seen ROTR yet, give it a look and consider joining it. We always welcome new players, and there's no doubt that we need the extra body -- currently there are only six or so active members, and while they are doing a fantastic job of continuing the story, more people would make things way more awesome.

Regardless, I'm glad to see things are picking up again.

In other news, I got my driving permit today! So exciting!

    UPDATE --- 1/24/12

Here's a handy little recap for anyone who was in the RPG in the last few months but has lost track of what's happening:

And I'd also like to welcome back Umbra of Doom! Since he has been gone for a while! And such!
  14. Parugi
So, after being set back by about 11000 due to lack of a computer that I could spend hours on at a time at my mom's house, I'm finally mostly almost caught up with NaNo again. Only 6000 words behind. That's not bad, is it?
    ... is it? D:

Regardless, things are coming along nicely. At this point I've introduced a lot of the new characters to the story -- some of them are probably going to be familiar to players in Day Run, to an extent, though I'll keep the specifics to myself. Once again I really like how the story is going so far, and I think things should go along more smoothly than they did in the original version.

Unfortunately, I've been a bit... lazy in my writing of these first few chapters, mainly because I'm writing it for NaNo and quality isn't exactly a huge concern at the moment, though it's most evident in the last couple of chapters that I wrote. Never fear, however -- I'm going to go back and edit them before I come anywhere close to posting them, so they'll be as super as the prologue and stuff by the time anyone here sees them.

Also, on a slightly unrelated topic, I've been drawing quite a few pictures of scenes from Day Run for the past few weeks, mostly since I have to draw for my art class and those scenes conveniently came to mind. So yeah; as things start to pick up in the RPG and those events and scenes become relevant, I'll start posting them.

Before that, however, I have a couple of pictures that I'll be posting fairly soon, most likely. One is a picture of a Breaker from Night Ride, which I drew back in September and is fairly super special awesome (also the first good drawing of mine in a now-fairly short list of drawings.) The other is a picture of Dalmia that a friend of mine is drawing, since I currently lack the ability to draw pictures of humanoids. I would have MOCed him, but he's basically impossible to build due to how he looks, so... yeah.

Anyway, those are just a few updates. I'm glad to see BZP back on-line, and role-plays and stuff are going smoothly... for the most part. More on that later.
  15. Parugi
Evidently Day Run was siphoning all of my effort out of Rise of the Rockets.

Either that... or my ability to write great posts suddenly and randomly came back yesterday. But frankly, I don't think the corresponding awesomeness appearing again the day before Day Run shuts down is a coincidence... :3
  16. Parugi
    Looks like it's done.

All right; well, if I do say so myself, based off of that last link the story cut off in a decent spot, so I'm not terribly sad. Once again, it was great playing with everyone for the last year; here's hoping we can get another season in March.

And if not -- there's always the epic.
  17. Parugi
So today has been in interesting day in Day Run. i think now is as good a time as any to go on that break, until it's either continued via RPG or epic...

    Questions and points raised here:
The Construct -- the Searcher -- has settled in the Barrens
Alan and Kairan are both injured, as well as an untold number of others
Elithes, Illuxio and Dalmia seem to be primed for a massive battle in the eastern Barrens
The Director seems to have some untold plans for the Day Run
Lyxek is unusually happy about the results of the Construct's actions...
Rhindon has sensed... something... that is out of the ordinary, only partially related to the Searcher
The Dark Hunters are all on their way to finding the Rose
On top of that... An ocean of Feranaki trapped underground? How did the horde get so large when it had been thinned so much?
Tarius seems to be dead... but is he? And what was that light that rose from where he died...?
Just what the heck is even going on!? What is the true purpose of this war? What is the relation between the Director and Lyxek? Who built the Director? What is Dalmia actually up to? Who is Lyccir? What happened during the Forgotten Period?
    Who or what is Rhashahk?

    ...
Yeah, definitely a great place to cut things off for a while.
  18. Parugi
We all know what it's like when a favorite TV show or series of some other kind gets canceled before it can be concluded. We all know that that kind of thing stinks and it shouldn't happen. It's a terrible, terrible fate that has been shared by countless stories, few of which have gotten the chance to reemerge after the fact and finish what they had started.

Well, my dear friends, now is one of those times. Day Run: The Garden has made it into the RPG Contest final poll. It's off to a bad start. Mine included, it has three votes. This saddens me, and like those TV shows, it will sadden the players if it does not get a chance to finish.

I'm repeating an old message here, one that I've been preaching for the past couple of weeks. The story is almost finished; we are so close to finding out what ties everything in the Day Run storyline together -- what is the connection between Lyxek and the Director? What is the Collector, really? Who, exactly, is Rhashahk? And what in the devil's name is the deal with that rose?

All of that is in jeopardy. And we need your help to save it. Yours is the vote that could make or break Day Run's continued existence. Please; if you have extra time, submit a vote for entry #8 over in the final poll. If it wins, another story will have concluded, and a lot of people will be very happy as a result. If not... then this story may very well never see a conclusion.

    Thank you for your time.

    UPDATE

At this point I would like to thank everyone who has either voted for Day Run or made a blog entry of their own to raise awareness for it; you guys rock!

At any rate, it's a close race, and it still needs votes to solidify a win. So, if you don't mind and have the time to do so, you should totes vote for Day Run in the contest -- along with whatever other two you want to vote for.

There are only two days left of voting, though, so hurry fast!

    UPDATE
Bumping again because Day Run has fallen behind.

Once again, if you haven't voted, please consider giving a vote to Day Run. It's one vote behind right now and the story is starting to go into some very interesting places. And, really, there's nothing to lose by voting for it, so if you are willing, please come and support us -- you'll make a number of people happy!

    mmm.....

so RPG Contest #22 voting is going to begin soon. I'm not sure if I'm actually nervous or not at the prospect of losing -- which, given the number of extremely good entries this time around, is a very real possibility.

So... eh. Not sure what I'm trying to say here. I suppose, I'm not necessarily going to mind if I lose this time -- and, frankly, I almost feel a little hopeful that I do. I really feel like the downtime did some serious damage not only to ROTR and Day Run, in terms of both activity and story progression/coherency, but to myself as a GM.

Looking back, the way I've run my RPGs has deteriorated exponentially ever since the forums came back, compared to how I used to run both games. I feel like both stories have become a lot less about the players and more about me trying to get things to go the way I want them to -- heck, Day Run can't even go anywhere half the time due to me being unable to post.

I don't know. I'm starting to feel more and more like I'd not a good RPG GM. Either that, or I'm experiencing some serious GM fatigue. =/
  20. Parugi
    Hi.

    Breaker
    The Coeur d'Ombre
    The Construct
    The Rose

So there are a few. Expect more to come as time goes on.

And yes, the Breaker is technically from Night Ride. But who cares?

So... I posted that short story I was talking about. It's called "One" and it can be found here.

Once again, I issue this warning: It has spoilers for what -might- come to be in the RPG. If you want to read it, though, then go ahead; I can't stop you.

Also, yes, I decided not to enter it in the SS contest. Oh well. Maybe next time.

So, tomorrow will be December 2nd, which means that the Short Story contest is going to close to new entrants. While that's all well and good, it means I'm going to have to work -very- hard tomorrow on editing my entry if I'm going to get to enter -- which, hopefully, I will.

Regardless of whether I get to or not, tomorrow is the start of a weekend (after school, anyway,) and I have a ton of stuff that I'm going to do on here to celebrate. This includes, but may not be limited to:
-Uploading several drawings of characters and scenes from Day Run, some of them things that people have seen at this point, some that you haven't. Obviously, because of that latter point, I will not be uploading all of them onto here, though they will get added as time goes on and more gets revealed.

-Again, the posting of Absolute Power, regardless of whether I get to enter it or not.

-Renewed activity and updates to important stuff in Island of Pain, RotR (which really needs some hugs and new members; I highly encourage people to join it ^-^,) the BZPRPG and, most importantly, possibly, Day Run -- which,. as things stand, there's already quite a big thing or two going on, which may or may not have been influenced by NGE... ;P

-Potentially the official posting of the rewritten Broken Unity. At this point,. the prologue is ready; I'm still debating on whether I should add onto the first few chapters, though. I do, however, absolutely need to rewrite parts of some of them.

And that's all I can think of. But yeah, it should be interesting both on and off BZP; we're putting our Christmas tree up tomorrow (our first real one in my memory... :-O) and we're having a party in my Art class, so it'll be fun. ^-^

I'm entering. While I just started working on my entry, I've got a lot done.

For players of Day Run -- you should find it interesting, since it gives insight into some of the events that occurred in Illuxio's dimension before his universe died... kind of.
