  1. Hey y'all.

Remember the Wall of History page on Bionicle.com? It originally showcased all the MNOLG cutscenes and webisodes, but sometime after 2003—I wanna say late '04 or '05—they were replaced with short videos summarizing the storylines of the first few years. These videos weren't much more than text over pictures, but I'd like to see them again. They had some very dramatic music.

Anyone know where I can find them?

  2. Agreed on Onua's height, though at least his mask and shield were in-character. I'd have given him Pohatu Phantoka's build, which is appropriately short and strong... Pohatu would probably get something unique, emphasizing his lower body strength. I've never felt like Pohatu is the type to have unbelievably broad shoulders.

Now that you mention it, Pohatu Phantoka´s broad shoulders are incredibly out of character, too, as he had the narrowest shoulders of all Toa with his reverted torso. What you said about Pohatu´s lower strength is not true, though. Actually, he would be stronger than Onua if it weren´t for his Pakari.-Gata signoff.jpg
Nah, I meant lower body strength as opposed to upper body strength. Pohatu had them legs, you know.

  4. Earth. It's under us pretty much at all times, so I'd rarely be without it, and it's probably the most constructive element. I'd save a lot of time and money on home improvement and landscaping. And if you ever need to defend yourself, you just suck someone into the ground where they stand. Unlike fire and some other elements, it's easy to defend yourself without killing anyone—just suck them up neck-deep, and there's no such thing as "excessive force."

  5. Hey, Journey of Takanuva's biggest fan here. JoT ends with the Spectral Hau opening a portal for Takanuva and giving him a word of advice:"It is the way you must travel, but beware—you may find that not everything is what it seems on your way. Remember, good and evil can be found in the deeds of others, not in their appearance."That sounds to me like a pretty obvious warning about Dark Mirror, but it's basically irrelevant for The Kingdom. That and the fact that Takanuva has his power lance already in JoT leads me to think that it went Kingdom > JoT > Dark Mirror, even if that's not the official explanation. It's official in my headcanon, at least.

  6. I never said they shouldn't have become Toa or that they weren't serious characters to start with. But it's hard to deny that the Inika had a very different design aesthetic than the Metru, who were quite neutral in appearance—the Inika were far more threatening. Kongu had his deranged, grimacing, half-eaten-away mask, Hahli had her narrow, sinister eyes, Nuparu looked like a nightmare version of Mr. T, and so on. They weren't a very friendly or noble-looking bunch compared with other Toa we've had. Their Mahri designs were much more in-character.

  7. Wow, this is outstanding!I agree with ET that a Kaukau would be a great addition to Ga-Koro... Perhaps a gold one would work. Those gold Kanohi were never too vibrant, so it could probably pass for stone. Shouldn't Ta-Koro be inside a volcanic cave, however?

  8. The Piraka all had wonderfully expressive faces, which suited their characters well. Reidak looked brutal and course, but somewhat intelligent; Zaktan looked totally alien, almost witch-like; Vezok looked animalistic in his rage... And so on.Not to mention that they basically had Tiki heads, which added to the fact that they were posing as Toa. It's a callback to the Polynesian aesthetic of 2001, which is a detail that I don't think gets much recognition. I love that everything they did was basically a twisted parody of the Toa Mata.

  9. For those of you who have been here a while (or not), what's the history of your avatar? Mine is from the movie "Metropolis," but it's really just a placeholder. I used to have a different avatar, which I've had some variation of since 2003:

    logoglow2.gif

    I got the

original version from a guy whose claim to fame was making "Anti-Dark" versions of the images you gave him (Areo Crunch, if any of you remember him); the basis for my avatar was my BBC #10 entry, but it's impossible to really see in there. I still don't know which parts are which.

Around 2008, I stuck it in the circular

loading screen from the MNOLG and added a little sparkly .gif action, and believe me, I was looking wicked-rad. Unfortunately, it doesn't look good on the new boards because avatars have these little borders around them now. So admins, get on that, I suppose. No more oppression under the cruel borders of our avatars!

  10. I just looked through everything here so far and it is awesome. Especially loved to hear that Rock Raiders and Bionicle were both inspired by the same thing -- two of my favorite lines ever. I wonder if this means Makuta and the Rock Monsters were taken from the same inspiration, loosely? Also two of my fave enemies ever.

Don't forget the Vatuka, which is basically a classic Rock Monster. And there were lots of Rocker Raiders-esque energy crystals in 2001 media, particularly video games—we had lightstones, heatstones, those Vuata Maca crystals. It actually doesn't surprise me that there was a connection early on.Also:moli2.jpgIt blows my mind to think that this symbol from the MNOLG and Toa CD probably represents Mata Nui laying across a planet. I always visualized it as him holding a circle open, but this image reveals that the circle is actually a sphere. I can't handle this. And another interesting detail that I discovered a few years back, when we were still theorizing about these things: "Mangai" is Maori for mouth, and "Ihu" is Maori for nose. I love that they left those hints for us, even if they weren't able to use Maori names after that first year.
  11. I'm gonna have to go with Krika. He's a fantastic-looking set, but after spilling out the contents of the canister and eagerly putting him together, I was underwhelmed. It took, what, two minutes to build him? Not that I'm looking for a great build with a canister set, but there's gotta be something. After all that enthusiasm, realizing how simple his build was was like slamming on the brakes and lurching forward into my seat belt. Just unsubstantial. Also, I'm gonna have to list Onua, one of my favorite Toa of all time, because he wasn't silver like the picture on the can.

  12. As a kid, my sister would often play "Venus in Furs" by the Velvet Underground. I understand what it's about now (it's pretty inappropriate), but at the time it seemed like a good song for BIONICLE.I am tired, I am wearyI could sleep for a thousand yearsA thousand dreams that would awake meDifferent colors made of tears

Look, it's the story of Mata Nui! But like,

    this Mata Nui
