    Deal with it.

    Okay?

Edit: Someone just bumped my blog rating down by .1.

I think it was Arpy. Nevermind. Arpy's losing again. Not that this is a competition. The war begins now.

After more than a decade of being frustrated by this game, I've finally finished it.

A number of years ago I got past the championship but hadn't collected all the crystals and so was stuck in the last little bit. Sometime in the last year or two, I replayed the first half or so of the game, and just today beat Le-Koro and Po-Koro and finished the rest. Admittedly I did this by upping my Kohlii skills using the "Edit State" function, but I beat them legitimately years ago, so I can honestly say I've completed the game as it was meant to be played.

    This is very satisfying.

24 hours ago I was... What was I doing? Packing up my MOCs or something.

Now I'm home sick. Timing couldn't have been better. I think it must have been Rene (EW), he was sitting next to me at dinner.

Oh, man. BrickCon was so awesome. Especially the people. I don't think I even have to name you guys, you know who you are.

I'll get a proper entry up later today or tomorrow, but for now I should really get back to building that UCS Imperial Shuttle.

Oh, and congrats once again to Jason (xccj) on winning that amazing... Thing. I think I'll let him tell you what it is. And thanks to Matt (CzaR) for the awesome deals on rare stuff! Pics later.

My one regret was that I didn't get pictures of even half the stuff that was there - I only covered Bionicle, Model Team, Space, and Mecha. But I think I at least saw most of the stuff I didn't get pics of.

For now I'll just leave you with a few random pics. These will all be of only people, since CzaR already posted pics of all the best MOCs. If anyone objects to having their picture or real first name online just let me know and I shall edit this entry accordingly:

xccj and most of Razlak's hair.

Waiting in line at the Lego store with Micah (Arenthas, currently known as -Kevin-) and Trisha (Kayru).

Trying to stay awake at midnight. Still about thirty feet from even entering the store. I'm the guy off to the side with the hat.

Some awesome pictures of Micah. He was in all the good ones.

A wild Steve Witt appears! He totally would have gone out for dinner with us on Saturday but you know how those crazy people from Lego can be.

I think this is one of my favourites - Micah, Steven (Swert, who has absolutely no sense of humour) and Rene (wearing my hat).

    Riley (Razlak) photobombing Rene.

Micah looking intense, with Jason, Micah's brother, and Steven in the background. The large white blob is Riley's shirt.

Riley and Micah photobombing Connor (Kopakanui). And now some from dinner on Saturday night:

Trisha (right) and her friend Stephanie, with a massive plate of nachos.

Connor with Steven in the background. I think that's Jason's hand off to the right.

Jason, with parts of Steven, Riley, and Connor off to the sides.

    Rene.

Me on the way home. This was actually taken while at the border, which took about and hour and a half to get through.

And that will be all for now.

    Well, well. Where to start.

I don't really feel like doing the full report, like I did with BrickCon, but I'll start by saying that BF was twice as awesome as BC, and that's saying something because BC was also a blast.

I managed to get some seriously awesome deals at the Scatch & Dent - 50% off a Trade Federation MTT, and 50% off - that's right - a Death Star II.

As pictured in the previous entry, I also got my hands on two incredibly rare masks - a gold/opaque Strakk helmet and a red/transparent Hau Nuva. Kelly had a huge bag of misprints and prototypes, which he gave to Andrew (Black Six) who let Shilo (Omicron) choose two to keep. Luckily I saw them from over at the Dirty Brickster and thought I knew what they were up to. Andrew was thinking about not letting my have any (), but Shilo was awesome and convinced Andrew. Shilo got a neon-pink Tarix helmet and something else, and Roa got a trans-neon green and black Bitil mask, a black Miru with orange markings on the forehead, and a red and green Rannu helmet. There were also doubles of all of Bunda's stuff, dark grey-ish/opaque/trans-black Gresh weapons, a few speckled gunmetal masks and pieces, and black and white Mirus with blue and orange forehead markings. But most of awesome of all (except perhaps that pink Tarix helmet) was three Gelu masks - they were all purple, black, and grey, but the purple was metalic and they were all different. Shilo, Roa, and I would have gotten one each, but the rule was that we couldn't choose any unreleased pieces.

Anyways, I also got Best Small Bionicle for my Gahok revamp, which was completely custom except for the head, and had a posable neck.

That's all for now, I'll post some more tomorrow.

OH WAIT and Shilo has something to show BZP. There'll be a topic for it in BBC in the near future.

Oh yeah, and there was a OH WAIT NOT ALLOWED TO TALK ABOUT IT NOT BZP APPROPRIATE KK

So I figure this needs its own separate entry.

Basically, I ran into CzaR about five minutes after I arrived at BrickCon and promptly bought it from him for the BZP discount of $55. Now, this may seem a bit steep, but considering Flintsmith only made four of these (and who knows where the other three are) it's actually a great deal. So, thank you once again Matt!

Here's a pic CzaR took of it next to his trans-purple Kaukau, also a Flintsmith custom, which he sold to Razlak at BCon09:

And some lovely Tohunga displaying them:

Ya rly. So wish me a happy birthday, or something. K?

Oh, and three of my friends at school gave me fourteen birthday beats each. 'Twas a day of pain and anguish.

Edit: And yesterday another one of my friends gave me another fourteen. Then for some reason she felt the need to repeat the gesture.

First of all, this bit of genius courtesy of Avohkah Tamer featuring Sumiki and Lady Kopaka has be shared again:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=omT4z6xDL0Q

Next, shoutouts to Trisha, Pat, Maddison, Andrew, Ben, Susannah, Vance, Christie, Corvin, Jess, Jamieson, David, Nate, Thomas, Pablo, Scott, Andrew, Yanni, Danny and more people that I'm trying desperately not to leave out but probably failing. You are all so wonderful.

One of the greatest things to happen during BrickFair: Sumiki calling me "famous." His words, not mine. I'm honoured.

Furthermore, my material acquisitions over the five days of the con (aside from the usual free BrickFair goodies) consisted of no more than two LEGO pieces, but they were particularly special pieces - TLH picked up an extra SDCC Scorpio mask for me recently, and I now finally own a Metru blue Matatu, which is a piece I've been wanting to have for almost ten years, and of which no more than twelve exist. Thanks Maddison!

My convention plans for the next year - if finances allow, that is - include BrickCon in Seattle in less than two months' time, BrickCan in my hometown of Vancouver in April (finally one that I won't have to go through customs for), BricksCascade in Portland in June, and hopefully BrickFair VA again next August.

    Until next time, lovelies.

Alright, let's get right to it.

First off, I didn't travel with my dad this time. Rather, Razlak and his mother were kind enough to take me down with them, so a huge thank-you to them.

Razlak's mom picked us up at school at shortly after three or Friday, from where we went straight to Seattle. We arrived over an hour late due to traffic coming out of Vancouver and coming into Seattle. Our ETA had been something like 6:00, but we got there right after the Friday Keynote session had ended.

Once we arrived at the convention centre, we quickly set up our stuff, ran into CzaR (who sold me a metallic purple Akaku - a Flintsmith custom - for just $55) and his family, and then ran off to the Rainier Room to see if we could catch the last bit of the keynote session. We got there just as they were opening the doors to let everyone out. After waiting outside the doors to intercept xccj and whoever might be with him, we decide to head back to the centre and try to catch them there. After walking about ten feet Jason (xccj) steps out from a small crowd of people and is all like hey it's the Rileys (since Razlak and I are both named Riley. No relation.).

Within that small group we met EW, Kayru, Arenthas/Arkov (currently going as -Kevin-), Swert, kopakanui, and Kayru's friend Stephanie. After much hand-shaking, we decide to head back to the convention centre, where Razlak and I were finally able to pick up our Brickbadges and goody bags (they had been locked up when we first arrived). Then we all went to the Lego Store, where I managed to snag the UCS Imperial Shuttle and Republic Swamp Speeder both at 50% off, as well as a large Pick a Brick cup. The line-up was at least 65 feet long, so it took me like an hour to get through, but luckily Arkov and Kayru were right behind me, so it was actually pretty fun chatting with them. Razlak unfortunately took a little longer than me, so I had to wait an extra 45 minutes. Oh well. We got back to the hotel at about 1:45 in the morning.

The next day we arrived at the convention at about 9:00, where we waited and waited for Jason and Rene (EW) to arrive. During the public hours we went out for lunch, reviewed the Skopio set, and had the BZP meet-n-greet, during which Swert, Kayru, and Kraahlix, who was there for the public hours, were in some sort of BS01 interview thing, so they were absent for the BZP group shot. We were none too happy about this, of course, so Rene grabbed an AK-47, Inferna Firesword (also there for the public hours, with her amazing copper bronze Kirop) grabbed a grende, and I grabbed a massive dagger, and we went hunting for them. Rene managed to keep a straight face for most of the time, but Lauren and I were laughing our heads off. We did end up finding and executing them, and shortly after made some tentative arrangements for dinner. I can't really remember what happened then, but we got back from dinner just in time for the awards ceremony. Arkov won a trophy for most unappreciated MOCist and CzaR won for best overall. I can't remember who won for best small or large though. I was the first BZPer to win a door prize, which ended up being one of the smaller Space Police sets. I also caught a shirt that was thrown into the audience by jumping a foot and a half and snatching it out of the air. I then did almost the same thing again with an identical shirt, which Rene stole from me. Jason then won his massive LU thing, which I'll let him reveal, and Kayru won the Adventures of Clutch Powers on DVD, which she didn't want. She had to leave right after the awards ceremony though so I represented her in the Dirty Brickster in an attempt to get rid of the DVD.

Sunday was the last day of the con. We got there at about 9:30, just in time for the Wacky Races. I got videos of almost all the entries, so I'll try to upload at least a few. The public hours were a little less eventful than the previous day, but I did get a bunch of awesome videos of BZPers killing each other with Arkov's weapons. The closing ceremonies started at 4:00. I only was able to catch the last bit of them though as I was busy packing up, but I know that Micah managed to win a large Indiana Jones set in the door prize draws. After helping Jason transport his big win to Rene's car, which was a bit of a fiasco (but I hear it did survive the trip), we had a group hug in the middle of the sidewalk which included Rene, Jason, Swert, Razlak, and myself. After rushing back inside to avoid the squadron of police cars that had been called to the scene to apprehend us, we had another group hug including Micah, Connor, Razlak, and myself, wished farewell to whoever else was in the vicinity, and headed back to the car and back up to Vancouver.

AND DON'T YOU GO ALL TL;DR ON ME

Just some quick shoutouts to people:

xccj - It was great hanging out with you again man. I'm so envious of your big win, and I hope you have fun with it. We totally have to have that fight next time we see each other. Hope to see you at BrickFest.
EW - Dude, you're awesome. Can't wait to see you at Fest. It was great running around the hall with you and Inferna hunting down those crazy BS01 people. And I don't think I would have preferred to wander through a grocery store looking for water for twenty minutes with anyone else.
Razlak - I had a blast traveling with you. Although next time, try to be a little quicker at the Lego Store! Oh, and no Muse next time.
Arkov - I think you're probably the most insane person I've ever met. I hope you can make it to the Con next year! Well, you kinda have to, we'll have that collab build to bring!
Kayru - I don't think I ever spoke with you online, but it was great getting to know you, and it was fun representing you at the Dirty Brickster. The review was awesome, I can't wait to see it. Hope to see you next year, and make sure to bring your fedora again!
kopakanui - My fellow British Columbian! It was great to see you again, and I look forward to being in the VLC with you! If I ever get around to joining, that is. and you totally need to be more active on BZP.
CzaR - Man, you're the best vendor BrickCon has ever seen. Thank you so much for the amazing deals you gave us, and I hope you can make it to BrickFest! Congrats on winning that trophy, you deserved it.
Swert - It was great meeting you. You totally have to attend again next year! I'll get those videos of you and Arkov and EW killing each other uploaded ASAP!
Inferna Firesword - Your bronze Kirop was simply amazing, as was hunting down BS01ers with you and EW! Next year you should really attend the whole convention!
Kraahlix - We didn't really talk much, but it was great meeting you!
Binkmeister - We totally got that guy to make an announcement telling you your friends were looking for you. Unfortunately you had gone by that time. Come on over the the Bionicle table and say hi next time!

NASA has scheduled a press conference for tomorrow morning at 9:00am PDT, and you should all watch it. The announcement has to do with a new Kepler discovery. Kepler is a space telescope that is responsible for finding over a thousand confirmed extrasolar planets, or planets orbiting other stars. The new findings will very likely be the most Earth-like planet found to date.

The press conference can be watched live here:

    http://www.ustream.tv/channel/9407922

Best-case scenario? Kepler has found an Earth-like planet whose atmosphere has a high concentration of dioxygen, or O2, which did not exist on Earth until the evolution of photosynthesis. Since O2 is not produced in stellar reactions (elemental oxygen is, but not molecular oxygen) or in large quantities by other known natural processes, the presence of the molecule on another planet would be a strong indicator of life.

I've gotten back into Lego recently. I had forgotten - along with what an incredible strain on one's bank account this hobby can be - how much fun this stuff is!
I was always interested in rare and unusual Bionicle sets and collectibles and have gotten a few things recently that fall into that category. I thought I'd post some pictures here of my more interesting new acquisitions.

Still sealed, including the plastic wrap; here's the back.

Green Nuva weapons, probably late-stage prototypes used to test the new moulds. These show up for sale on BrickLink every now and then.

Bohrak Va polybags that seem to have been only available in Korea. I recently learned that these actually came in the boxed Kabaya sets, which were sold in both Korea and Japan.
    More coming soon!

So we've got this really stupid math project on proofs of the Pythagorean Theorem. We're in groups of two and each group has been assigned a proof. Then we have to make a big poster that includes a model and explanation of the proof, a biography of whoever invented the proof, and what Pythagorus' obituary might have been.

Didn't I tell you it was stupid?

Anyways, my partner was sick the class after it was assigned and I was to lazy to do any work on it and it's due tomorrow and we just started today and it's 11:30 pm and I'm incredibly tired.

I also need a decent Mac paint program but the only decent one I've found can't open for some reason. It's the fifth I've tried. I need to find one tonight because I need it for the model.

I could of course just go to bed and get up really really really early tomorrow but that would probably be an even worse idea.

kk I should probably go back to working now.

    Goodnight.

    So. BrickCon.

Probably the best year so far.

Let's see. Went down with George Costanza and his folks again - huge thank you once again to them for everything. Got to see the old crowd again plus some new people - Roa, Kakaru, kopakanui, xccj, Swert, EmperorWhenua, Toa Velox, and Binkmeister. Great to see everyone and looking forward to next year, and hopefully BrickFair as well.

I should probably get on with uploading my pics. In the meantime,
here's one of Binky's. Back row, left to right: EW, Swert, me, kopakanui, George Costanza/Mylo Xyloto, Kakaru (unseen except for part of his head), Kakaru's girlfriend Ashley. Front row, left to right: xccj, random guy, random guy, Kakaru's sister Katie, Toa Velox.

And the silly new forum won't let me put spaces between lines. Silly new forums are silly.

    NEEDS ADVICE KK

    *Ahem*

    Purple flames, or no?

Check gallery when public for moar pictures.

If the purple flames go, then so do the Exo-Robot arms. And the fibre optic cable, of course. If the flames stay, the cable will probably be cut or I'll use lightsabre blades.

More bricks will be added when I get to BrickFest, too.

And yes, Arpy, you have permission to file a lawsuit if you think it's too similar to your BrickCon badge.

Back - Without flightpack - Flightpack

Just a little something I cobbled together. Supposed be a revamp of a previous MOC, which was originally an experiment using a Kakama as a chestplate, but then it turned out as something completely different. Still looking for one more dark orange Kakama, as you can see.

That was slightly underwhelming, but cool nonetheless.

The new Kepler discovery was exactly what I and most others expected it to be - the most habitable exoplanet found to date, but with no signs of life.

The planet, Kepler-452b, is the only planet found so far in the Kepler-452 system, 1400 light years from Earth. It was discovered using the transit method, where the apparent brightness of a distant star decreases slightly (usually by about one part in 10,000) when an orbiting planet passes between it and Earth. If this happens at regular intervals, then further methods of analysis are used to determine whether it is in fact a planet (since the same effect can be caused by binary star systems and other phenomena).

Kepler-452b has a mass of 5±2 Earth masses, a radius 60% larger than Earth and a corresponding surface gravity of about 2g (with an error margin related to the error margins for mass and size, but I'm too lazy to calculate that). Its orbit is 5% larger in radius than that of Earth and lasts 385 Earth days, but its star is older and thus more active, and so the planet receives 10% more solar radiation than Earth. This would cause an Earth-size planet at the same location to be undergoing a runaway greenhouse effect, similar to Venus, but Kepler-452b's larger mass means that won't happen for another 500 million years or so (if our observations are correct; there's a possibility we're slightly off somewhere, and it is indeed happening now).

Currently, the technology for analysis of atmospheric composition of exoplanets doesn't exist. It's not beyond our current capabilities - we just haven't built a big enough telescope yet. Thus, we have no idea what the atmosphere of Kepler-452b is made of. If future findings show it to have dioxygen and/or methane in significant quantities, it will be an excellent candidate for life as we know it.

Good job if you know who Carlos Santana is. Bad job if you don't.

He's one of the world's greatest guitarists.

Anyways, he was in Vancouver last night. My dad and I went to his concert. Wow.

    He was really good.
