I completely missed the BBCC #50 voting! HOW COULD THIS BE?!?!?!

ARG. What a bummer. It just came and went, and I completely forgot about it! :annoyed2:

Hello everyone! I have now recieved the two entries from our Duelists. Thus, it is time to begin the voting!

Just as a reminder, the original challenge was this:
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Color:
~ Must contain three colors (primary color, secondary color, and armor color)

    Pieces:
~ Must use at least two Kanohi masks
~ Must use a visorak body piece
~ Must use at least three transparent pieces

    Theme:
~ Must build an OoMN member (you can make up one)
~ Must have a gear function
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That said, here are the entrants:

    Duelist Name: Arpy
    Entry Name: Shubiduwahp
    Entry Picture:

    More shots:
    showing off gear function
    from the front
    left side
    the rear

Notes (from Arpy): Thankfully, the rules didn't say the gear function had to be original, so I built the torso around a Toa Metru torso. As can be seen in link #1, the right arm can thus be turned. All the other requirements should be pretty obviously fulfilled.

So, um, yeah. Shubiduwahp here has a sword and an arm blade, as well as ultra-linear leapjets on his legs and the ability to fire lazers from his fingertips.

    Moving on to Draco's entry...

    Duelist Name: Draco Spilopterus
    Entry Name: Boxor v.2.43.11
    Entry Picture:

    More shots:
    visit the gallery

(From Draco): I hope the arms count enough as gear functions... And pay no attention the swapped pieces on one leg.

It is now time to begin the voting. Please choose one of the above MoCists that you wish to vote for, and say who you are voting for in a comment in this blog entry.

When voting, please keep these things in mind (in this order):
    - Does the MoC portray the challenge well?
    - Is the MoC creatively built and original?
    - Does it look cool/sleek/amazing?

The voting time begins now (Thursday, August 28th) and will end Sunday (August 31st).

    Current scores:
    Arpy: 9
    Draco: 4
    (Updated: 8/29/08, 6:56 AM CST)

You guys are now free to vote for the MoCist of your choice!

Hey guys, sorry I haven't updated my blog with the winner of my contest, but the winner is Arpy! I have just been rather busy lately, and have not had the time to do this. I will get the trophy up as soon as I can.

  5. GreenBioGuy
Greetings all! Here we have the challenge for the MoCist Duels Contest!

Draco and Arpy, I present to you your MoCing challenge. I need to remind you that there is only going to be one challenge, as opposed to last time, when there were three "rounds". This time, there will be only one.

Also, as a quick note, from now on, there will always be three sections to a challenge; the color, pieces, and theme.

Here are the criteria for your MoC:
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Color:
~ Must contain three colors (primary color, secondary color, and armor color)

    Pieces:
~ Must use at least two Kanohi masks
~ Must use a visorak body piece
~ Must use at least three transparent pieces

    Theme:
~ Must build an OoMN member (you can make up one)
~ Must have a gear function
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As you can see, the challenge is a bit more complex than the last contest! I did that on purpose, simply because we only have one challenge in this contest.

Ok, the two of you have from Thursday (Aug. 21st) to Wednesday (Aug. 27th). If you have any questions, post them here.

I look forward to what you two shall build!

    ~GBG~

Well everyone, I am pleased to announce that the two duelists for our BZP MoCist duels have been chosen! And those duelists are...

    Draco Cyanopterus
    vs.

    Arpy!

Unfortunately, I don't have the challenge thought up yet (and I want it to be very well thought of and sortof complex). Thus, you will have to wait until later this morning or early afternoon (CST).

Congratulations on being chosen, and I look forward to your MoCs! Until then...

    Updated: 8/20/08 10:41 AM (CST)

There are fourteen of you total, but only two of you shall walk compete as duelists! Which two? Well, you guys shall have to decide that for yourselves! Anybody is welcome to vote in this poll. The purpose of this poll is to choose the two members which shall compete in the MoCist Duel. You may vote for as many of the members as you wish, but remember that only two of them shall continue on.

In the case of a tie for 1st place, the two members that tied shall be the duelists. In the case of a tie for second, I guess that I shall just have to post up another shorter poll to choose between them, but it would only last for a day (unless you guys have any other suggestions).

Please place your votes here! You may vote for a maximum of four people and a minimum of two. I will post a separate blog post to keep up with scores. I will just keep up with polls here.

Edit: The polls run from 8/19 through the evening of 8/20.

No, sorry, this is not a post on the MoCist Duels. Rather, it is a request for some advice.

Namely, how do you make a titan sized MoC stand up for an extended period of time? I am currently in the process of working on a new MoC of mine, and it is very hard to pose. The tough part is that I have given him reverse ankles, and thus his center of balance is a bit off... I guess. So, calling all of you experienced MoCists out there, I need your advice!

I am writing this blog entry to bring to your attention the fact that anyone can enter my blog contest now, and not just those who have won BBCC's in the past. I hope that this way more people can enter (there needs to be more, there aren't any yet!). So what are you waiting for? Scroll on down to the two blog entries before this one to sign up!

Welcome to the second edition of...

Greetings everyone! I am pleased to present to you the second edition of the BZP MoCist Duels blog contest, brought to you by "The Emerald Apple" blog, and hosted by ~GreenBioGuy~.

I am sure that most of you remember the rules from last time, but here they are again, with a few modifications (the largest of which is that there is only one round, as opposed to three, like last time):

~ New Rule!!! ANYONE can enter! Why the change? I guess that I just want more of you involved. Of course, only two of you shall be the duelists!
~ I shall post a separate blog entry that you shall use to enter the contest.
~ To enter, simply write your display name and the name of the contest(s) that you have won, as well as what place you achieved in that contest, in the designated blog entry.
~ Entry time begins now, and ends on August 18th, 11:59 P.M. (Central Standard Time)
~ Once all eligible members have submitted their names, I shall post up a separate poll in which all members shall vote on the two members which they would like to see compete within the duel. The poll shall last from August 19 to August 21.
~ Once the two duelists have been chosen, I shall post up the duel challenge in a new blog entry.
~ Within the challenge I shall list the criteria for the MoCs that the duelists shall be building.
~ The duelists then have 72 hours, or three days, to complete their MoCs. Once they have completed said MoCs, they shall then PM them to me, along with any information that goes with them.
~ Once I have received the two MoCs, I shall post them together in a new poll, providing that they conform to the rules.
~ All members shall then vote on the MoC that they feel is coolest/fits the criteria the best/ is the most creative etc. This poll shall last for about three days.
~ The winner is the member whose entry got the most votes!
~ As a prize, the winner shall receive a digital trophy which he/she may place in their blog, and they shall also be recognized as a MoCist Duels Champion.

    Rules:

I am sure that you guys will conform to all of the basic rules just like in a BBC contest. Essentially, the rules here are the same as a BBC, including (unless otherwise noted) the rule for 25% maximum system pieces within the MoC. No cheating, flaming, complaining, etc. etc... Oh, and above all, you must have fun! I hope that this contest shall run smoothly, and that we shall all enjoy it enough to want to do it again!

Guys and Gals, I am wondering if I should change my user name. I really like the one that I have, but I thought that it would be good to have a simple one or two word name, like Tufi Piyufi, Darth Vader, Blue Diamond or Cajun. ~GreenBioGuy~ is neat, and it seems to roll off of the tongue, but it is also a bit complicated and long.

So, do you think that my name is good the way it is? Or would it be a good idea to switch to a more simple name that is more straight forward (and doesn't have any symbols in it)? I now that my name may be perfectly fine the way that it is, but it might be better if it were simpler. Oh, and I'm sure that you guys would get used to it soon.

If I change, I don't want something too drastically different. I would probably still have a name that had to do with green, and my theme would still be green. I want people to still be able to recognize me! Or, I could switch to some other them. I thought of "Falcon" or "jMan". The "jMan" comes from my real name and the fact that I really like Macintosh. Green Emerald is an option, as would be Green Apple (because I like Macs). I dunno. I'm just thinking out loud.

I am all for your input!

Well hello BZP people out there! I am shocked to see that it has been nearly a month since my last blog entry! I think that it is high time for an update!

Ok, let's see... to start off with, the main reason that I have not been blogging (or doing much else around here) is because a) I have been doing other more important things and B) I hit one of my BZP low spots (I go in spurts of being real active and then not).

I have just finished checking up on all of the news and reading the new serials. Very nice. I have also been voting in the S&T #4 this morning (just the MoC polls, I may have time to do the others some other time). I have also been keeping up with BBCC #50, and I am still patiently awaiting for all of the entries to be submitted (can someone remind me of when the voting begins?). Aside from S&T #4 and BBCC #50, are there any other big goings on that I should know about around here? Any really good blog contests or entries to read? Now I will tell you, I have been keeping up with all of my favorite blogs and such, and I have been reading the news consistently, I just haven't been commenting or posting that much. Oh, and I updated my avatar/banner theme. What do you think?

In terms of MoCing, prior to a week ago or so ago, I had not done much at all for at least a month. I never did get around to entering S&T #4 and the MoC that I was planning on entering into Bone's blog contest never did get finished. I had built the lower half of the creature (the legs and lower torso), but then I hit a serious MoCist's block. In other words, I couldn't get an idea for either the arms or the upper torso. So, as could be expected, he just sat in my WIP box for a month. And then about a week ago I got motivated again to start building again. Thus, I pulled out my WIP and started tinkering. Lo and behold, I now have a pretty good torso and upper arms. No, he's not done yet, but you can expect to see him up on the forums within the next week or two. He was going to be a winged wolf that could stand on it's hind legs, but that may change. Color scheme is black and silver.

As to sets, I am not buying them anymore. Simply put, I am now wanting to spend my money on things that are more worth my while. Sure, I may get an occasional canister set every now and again, but for the most part, I shall only get new sets if I win them.

But what about my real life? Well, the main thing that has happened lately is that I turned 16! Yay! I got a nice new desk and desk chair (one of those that spin around and roll of wheels!) I also got Brisingr (the third book in the Inheritance Cycle) for pre-order, the latest Redwall book for pre-order from the same location, and the new card game, Elementeo. It is quite fun and creative, and I would recommend it to any science/chemistry lovers.

I have also doing some work for my dad outside in the effort of paying him back for my new laptop that I got at the beginning of the summer. I'm almost there! Unfortunately, the weather has been horribly hot and humid, so... yeah. Not fun. However, fortunately, it rained the day before yesterday, and as a result the weather has cooled down significantly. You know, it's really bad when you get excited about 85 degree weather! I am looking forward to getting outside this afternoon...

As to what else I have been doing, I have two projects going on. The first is I am (or should be) working on a trilogy that I am writing. Mainly I am just doing outline and thinking on the plot and storyline. The other project has to do with starting a ministry that shall be raising money for water wells in Sudan Africa. If anyone would be praying for this, that would be great (I hope that doesn't violate any BZP rules... )

Pertaining to the subject of entertainment, I got the new LEGO Indiana Jones game a few weeks ago! And yes, it is truly a great game. The features and actions far out-strip LEGO Star Wars. The collectibles are a little more simple though (there are no gold bricks or the like). But besides that, I love the game. The story mode movies are quite funny, and the characters are just as good. So yeah, it's good.

I have also seen Batman: Dark Knight. To start off with, I give it six out of five start on acting and plot. This movie is targeted more towards a good storyline (a very complex one at that, which I love) than mind-blowing graphics and fighting scenes. The movie just might be my favorite one this summer. Sure, it's dark, but it really adds to the movie. Oh, and the Joker is like the ultimate bad-guy. The thing that makes him so bad is because he is not interested in money, power, or fame; but rather destruction and chaos, as a truly evil baddie should be. And as I said, the storyline is complex. It just keeps on going, but in a good way. So, if you haven't seen it yet, then I would encourage you to do so!

I shall wrap this up with asking you guys if you would be interested in my holding another MoCist Duels contest. This time, however, there would be only one round per duel. I am still unsatisfied with the result of the last one... Anyway, if enough of you want to do it, then I shall fire it up right away!

I also noticed that my blog rating has shot down significantly. It's 4.0 now. It used to be one of the higher rated ones amongst my favorite blogs list. Who did it? Jk... however, it would be nice to get it back up... (hint hint ) I guess that I deserve it, what with my recent absence of activity. Ah well...

I guess that's about all... Until next time!

    Darth Vader!

I would like to explain a few things first. I realize that it appeared as if the duelists were tied in the last round, but due to and oversight on my part, Roa didn't actually get the last vote, and thus, DV was one vote over Roa!

On that note, I would like to present to DV his trophy ...

There you go! Originally, the trophy was a little shinier and it was all circular, the corners were transparent. Sadly, the process of saving it as a .jpg sortof ruined it. I had saved it as a .bmp, which kept the transparency, but BZP wouldn't let me use that extension. If anyone has any tips for me on saving transparent images that BZP can use, then please let me know. DV, I am sorry, but it's the best I could do.

The purpose of the trophy is to place in your blog. If you are going to do that, then please place the following code into a new content blog (titled whatever you want) Here is the code:
    [center][url="http://www.bzpower.com/forum/index.php?automodule=blog&blogid=1071&showentry=33711"][img=http://www.majhost.com/gallery/greenbio362/Other/championtrophydv.png][/url][/center]

(It links to the original MoCist Duels blog entry.) You don't have to use this, but I would really appreciate it if you did!

This was a very close contest, and was alot more exciting that way!

In the beginning, I was actually planning on reviewing all of the entries in detail, but I ran out of time and wasn't able to. Sorry.

I would like to thank all of you who participated; without you, this would have been impossible. I am planning on having another contest (another duel) starting in August. In the meantime, I want to know what you guys thought of the contest. Here are some questions that I would appreciate if you took the time to answer (specifically the duelists):

    - Did you enjoy the contest?
    - Would you like to see it take place again?
    - What did you like/dislike about the contest?
    - What would you have changed?
    - How was my hosting of the contest?
    - How did I do on the trophy?
    - Do you have any suggestions for future contests?

Congrats DV! I enjoyed watching you and Roa duel! It was quite fun!

Also, I am sorry for making you have to build more Roa. Even though we didn't finish the tie-breaker, here is Roa's MoC anyway:

    A quote from Roa:

    More pics:
    back view
    belly view
    unfurling wings
    back view with wings extended

Whew! I guess that wraps it up folks! And now, due to the fact that my stomach is growling for breakfast, I shall sign off for now!

Edit: I changed the trophy to .png

  15. GreenBioGuy
Ok peoples, due to the fact that our Duelists are tied for the Champion status, I have decided to do a mini tie-breaker challenge.

Duelists, your mini challenge is this:
You must build a MoC that uses no more than 20 pieces. You can build whatever you like, just don't go over that limit. Pegs/bushings/axles do not count into the number limit.

You now have until Sunday evening to send in your MoC, but the sooner the better. The actual voting shall last for one day (Monday).

So, get MoCin'! I smell chibiness...

Sorry, DV just brought to my attention that the last vote in the third round was invalid, due to it's being submitted too late. I apologize.

    ~GBG~
  16. GreenBioGuy
Well guys, the voting for the MoCist Duels contest is over, and our duelists are tied! How do you suggest I break the tie? Make the voting go on for a day longer? I am open to all suggestions!

Oh, and I would like to thank all of you who have voted in the contest, I have gotten alot more participation than I was expecting!

    ~GBG~

Greetings, BZPower fans! As you might guess from the title, I have received the entries for the final round of our MoCist Duels contest! So without further ado, let's begin!

To start with, here is the original challenge:
    ---------------------------------------------------

~ Your MoC must be a re-vamp of one of the Toa Nuva Phantoka (Lewa, Kopaka, or Pohatu)
~ Your MoC may not be a Makuta Phantoka
~ Your MoC must use the original Phantoka mask as the Toa's mask
~ It must be obvious that your MoC is a re-vamp of one of the Toa, but at the same time, it needs to be heavily re-vamped

    ---------------------------------------------------

Like usual, the member who got their MoC in first is presented first. Thus, Roa shall start us off!
Duelist Name: Roa McToa (for real this time!)
    Entry name: Kopaka Nuva
    A quote from Roa:

    Moving on to DV's entry...

When voting, please keep these things in mind (in this order):
    - Does the MoC portray the challenge well?

    - Does it look cool/sleek/amazing?

The voting time begins now (Tuesday, July 1st) and shall end Friday (July 4th). I shall post up the duel results and present the Duelist Champion with their trophy on Saturday. B)

New to the BZP MoCist Duels Contest? Check out the main blog entry here.
  18. GreenBioGuy
I got my Brickmaster in today. I must say, I enjoyed the whole enchilada quite nicely.

The magazine itself was nice. There are a few pages dedicated to Bionicle, talking about the Mistika and whatnot. The new Agents comics are neat, and rather entertaining as well. The Batman comic was ok... Also featured is a two page... thingy... on the Star Wars: The Clone Wars LEGO minifigures, coming out later on in the summer apparently. The minifigs looks pretty good, especially the clones. Captain Rex has quite a few new minifig accessories on him. B) I was dissapointed in the lack of contests, there are only two. Ah well.

The Bionicle comic was quite excellent, in opinion. It was well laid out, spending equal time on all three toa and makuta. Tahu and Gali are beginning to grow on me (Onua... not so much), and the Makuta are beginning to look like a real problem

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «Takanuva is back! And... I wonder what the Codrex is? The Brickmaster exclusive set is my favorite part of the lot. It was the exclusive Indiana Jones set! While the set looks cool (I have an Indy minifig now!) it is also built well. There are some smart building technics to be found, and... of course, there is all of that dark green!

So overall, I really liked this month's Brickmaster edition of the LEGO magazine.

Well mates, it's on to the final round of the duel! Currently our two duelists are tied at one round apiece, and I look forward to this last epic battle! However, before we move on, please join me in congratulating the winner of our last round...

    Darth Vader! Yay!

And now moving on to the challenge...

    Challenge number three:
    ---------------------------------------------------

~ Your MoC must be a re-vamp of one of the Toa Nuva Phantoka (Lewa, Kopaka, or Pohatu)
~ Your MoC may not be a Makuta Phantoka
~ Your MoC must use the original Phantoka mask as the Toa's mask
~ It must be obvious that your MoC is a re-vamp of one of the Toa, but at the same time, it needs to be heavily re-vamped

    ---------------------------------------------------

The two of you have 72 hours to build your MoCs and PM them to me. In other words, until Monday evening.

There ya go guys! I am going to start on the trophy in just a little bit... I look forward to what you shall have to present! *hopes that one of the duelists shall build Lewa*

Welcome to the first edition of...

Hello BZPower members! I am pleased to present to you the first edition of the BZP MoCist Duels blog contest, brought to you by the "Emerald Bricks" blog, and hosted by ~GreenBioGuy~.

Here is how the contest shall be conducted:

~ ONLY those members which have placed 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in a BBC contest or have won an official LEGO Building challenge may enter.
~ I shall post a seperate blog entry that you shall use to enter the contest.
~ To enter, simply write your display name and the name of the contest(s) that you have won, as well as what place you achieved in that contest, in the designated blog entry.
~ Entry time begins now, and ends on June 12, 11:59 P.M. (Central Standard Time)
~ Once all eligable members have submited their names, I shall post up a seperate poll in which all members shall vote on the two members which they would like to see compete within the duel. The poll shall last from June 13 to June 15.
~ Once the two duelists have been chosen, I shall post up the first challenge, and thus the first round, in a blog entry.
~ Within the challenge I shall list the criteria for the MoCs that the duelists shall be building.
~ The duelists then have 72 hours, or three days, to complete their MoCs. Once they have completed said MoCs, they shall then PM them to me, along with any information that goes with them.
~ Once I have recieved the two MoCs, I shall post them together in a new poll, providing that they conform to the rules.
~ All members shall then vote on the MoC that they feel is coolest/fits the criteria the best/ is the most creative etc. This poll shall last for about three days.
~ The winner of the poll shall be the winner of the first round, and we shall then move on to the second round, which shall be conducted exactly like the first, with the exception of the criteria for the MoC being different in this new round.
~ The winner of the duel is the member which has won the most of the three rounds.
~ As a prize, the winner shall recieve a digital trophy which he/she may place in their blog, and they shall also be recognized as the MoCist Duel Champion.

    Rules:

Seeing as we shall have mostly more advanced and experienced MoCists in this contest, I am sure that they shall conform to all of the basic rules just like in a BBC contest. Essentially, the rules here are the same as a BBC, including (unless otherwise noted) the rule for 25% maximum system pieces within the MoC. No cheating, flamming, complaining, etc. etc... Oh, and above all, you must have fun! I hope that this contest shall run smoothly, and that we shall all enjoy it enough to want to do it again!
