  1. This sounds like a really fun idea, tracking down and reading all the books growing up is a memory I’m really fond of and I think it would be really cool to dig into them one by one and appreciate them. I still remember so much of the writing and they’re such gems. It’s a nice way to keep engaged with the fandom!

  2. This is so crazy and amazing, you're a blessing to this fandom! Thanks so much for putting your time and passion into this. Does this stuff include summaries of the movie, or just their novelizations? Or is this basically all the canon media except the movies?

Also, have you considered what this would all look like if it were printed in one giant anthology? I want to know how big that book would be :P

Good luck refining this collection, can't wait to sit down and read it all up and get the full, unabridged, unbroken Bionicle experience :D

  3. Thank you so much for the lovely comments, everyone, I really appreciate it!! I'm very glad everyone got out of it what I was trying to put in, and that I could share the trip with you all.

I'm also very grateful for getting the spotlight on the front page, it happened to be the same day that my account turned 10 years old! ^^

  4. I never read the main Deltora Quest books, however, I adored Dragons of Deltora and if it means there's a chance for that to be adapted I am all for it.

What's the rest of the series like? What part(s) would you most like to see adapted to the screen, or what kinda stuff do you think will get people who aren't familiar with the series excited if they see it in a trailer?

  5. My entry for the The Legend Continues contest. The Toa combine the two halves of the Mask of Time, and it engulfs them in visions of the past. They remember who they are, and are prepared for new adventures wherever the universe needs them. Making this was such a great experience; I've wanted to make something like this since the first cancellation in 2010, so I'm just really happy I had the opportunity. I managed to finish the final sketch entirely from memory and honestly I don't know if I should be proud or if that's sad :P

This is what I wanted to see in G2, the legacy of Bionicle. I hope you all enjoy it!

  6. Just to be sure, is there a specific size/dimension limit to the official entry image/file? Can it be as large as I want (within reason obviously) as long as the images embedded in the entry's topic adhere to the board limits?

  7. WOW!!!

This is incredible! I remember your work from ages ago and it's so amazing to see your creations getting better and better and better! The model looks so intricate and interesting, I love your unique take on the design and mechanisms and how well you executed it, it looks so feasible and weighty. The attention to detail is what really makes this, the little grooves and the edges, the rivets, the lines going around the ball joints. I'm ecstatic that you have the shoulder gears in there. I love how it looks like a proper humanoid robot, and yet so many bits and sections look almost exactly like the LEGO pieces they're based on! The muscles were done really well too, I'm also a big fan of those. I think the hexagon pattern you have on them is what sells it. Overall the textures are really impressive and very well chosen. Gives the render a lot of realism, helps add some great scale to her. Color choices are real nice too, the dark blue is so rich. I think it's your color pattern that helps the humanoid face work, it's hard to get that to not look super weird on a predominantly robotic Bionicle character. Really great job on that, she looks so natural and pleasant! Also, huge props for the water render!! I can't even wrap my head around how that was made, but it looks so much like the water effects from Mask of Light, which is so characteristic of Gali in my head. And there's so much going on with it! Gorgeous. I love your pose and composition overall, it really hits you like a freeze-frame (almost slow-motion, even!) of a great mid-action hero shot. Just excellent, magnificent work! Especially for one person!! Who also rigged it so well!! That's really hard to pull off and you should be really really proud of this piece.

My only qualms is with the lighting and rendering; the pure white light that's reflecting over most of the figure and water kind of gives this really artificial or fluorescent look, which stands out in a bad way in my opinion since the piece looks like it should be a more natural, outdoorsy, kind of atmospheric shot. You had the right idea with the yellowing light coming from the front, I think if you applied that sort of more subdued, colored light from other angles it would help. On the other hand, the really bright main lights leaving all these white streaks and subtle rim light and glares and glossiness all over the figure REALLY make her pop and feel three-dimensional, and it's really dynamic so it doesn't feel like a flat render of a 3D model. She's really jumping out of the screen. I think having a bit stronger shadows or atmospheric lighting or just like more lighting towards the top or something would push the dimension/perspective of it that extra 10%. One other thing is the aforementioned glossiness; I love the weathered look she has, but I feel like the spectacular is a bit patchy and the bump is too low or maybe just too vague. The surfaces look really flat/smooth, more discolored than actually dirty or pitted or scratched or anything; again there's a flipside to this, because it's not super noticeable and the really glossy bits work so well with the overall shininess for the robotic look. I just can't tell if it's supposed to be like a mix of metals and plastics, or if it's meant to be all metal with a paintjob? Either way, that's like a really minor nitpick 'cause I can see that realistic pitting in the shoulder armor where the yellow light hits, so it may just be a lighting thing. But really, the textures are so great otherwise and really bring Gali to life, and the render is very very good!

I love this, thanks so much for sharing this with us! Keep making things like these and developing your amazing talents! I so wish I could animate in Blender, but I can't, so I'm hoping someone else sees this and gives it a go! Maybe Tohkann: Toa of Arts can do something with it? :D :D

(Oh, and any chance we could see more angles of this incredible model? Maybe the wireframe, if you wanna show it off? :D)

  8. I personally see it more as the platform shrinking rather than dying. It's still got a lot going for it that other more popular places don't have, like the organization and how easy it is to host and keep up with and maintain conversations and find the content you wanna see and share things with an audience that for the most part is there for your content. It's less active, certainly, but I don't think it's losing all it has to offer and I think as long there's a good amount of users keeping things alive it'll stay that way. There's a lot of shared interests within the LEGO sphere that keeps people talking about something close to Bionicle, and shared interests outside that sphere that keep people going as well.

BZP is one of the absolute best, most enduring and close online communities I've ever known in my way too many years on the net and that strong community during its height is what set it up to endure for as long as it has and, hopefully, as long as it will.

There's also the LEGO conventions and how they're these big events multiple times a year for BZP members to organize here on the forum and then enjoy together, or make lasting connections and continue them here. It's a really cool thing that might not be as effective on other platforms, maybe? Let's not forget about the advertising :P

On the other hand, I've seen how a portion of BZPower activity and community migrated over to other platforms and in many cases merged with the bionicle fandom at large, and honestly? Maybe that's not so terrible. The spirit of BZPower will live on in the members it sustained, inspired, molded, and returned to the world with something special to spread to the rest of the fandom, and that definitely will go on and on. We're too big of nerds to let it die :P :D

  9. I'm thinking about how cool it would be if I didn't just lurk B-)

thinkin bout how gay i am

That made me think of just how diverse the members of this site are.  We've got anime addicts, a Muslim, an atheist, some Christians, some trans folks, a pair of lesbians, a gay guy, gender fluidity, and whatever EmperorWhenua is.
Really dealing with the whole box of crayons here.

youd be really surprised at how diverse this site actually is, its just that a lot of people might just not ever talk about a lot of that kind of stuff. idk if this is still how it is since ive been largely inactive as of late, but i know as recently as just a few years ago - especially before the server upgrade in 2011, when the site was really active - this site had a LOT of specifically conservative christian people. needless to say, it fostered a rather ... unpleasant environment, at least to me

i for one know like, a dozen trans women alone who are/were members of bzpower, myself included. i also happen to be a lesbian myself, if my original post was any indication

I totally agree with this sentiment, back in the day things were pretty different, and I wasn't always super eager to bring up aspects of my identity. In more recent years, a lot more members have been sorta more open about themselves and freely discussing the diversity in the userbase and different subjects attached to it - at least as far as I could tell. It's been wonderful getting to know everyone over the years, on and off of BZP itself; like Mercy said there's plenty of folks here and folks who've been here over the years that have more to them than you'd assume.

Just to add to your box of crayons, I'm Jewish, and bi! Everyone here has so much that makes them unique and contributes to making the BZPower community so wonderful and varied.

JJBA has suddenly become a huge part of my life, my friends are all over it and it seems like everyone else in my circles have been on it for a while, and I love it. What a wild ride, I have no idea how Araki comes up with this stuff. My partner and I just finished Stardust Crusaders and started Diamond is Unbreakable, I really love the new animation style and all these mysteries have me hooked. It's definitely one of the best anime/manga I've ever seen, so fantastic. Really curious about how they'll handle the live action movie o:

Did any of you pick up on any ambiguous similarities between JoJo and Bionicle? Because the other day my friends were talking about stands and something they mentioned reminded me of Bitil's mask power and then I offhandedly summed that up for them and capped it off with "but then they died in a giant electrical storm" and realized how bizarre that all sounded :P

  10. Can't wait to set aside the funds to buy the soundtrack proper! Like TheZOMBIEJ I'd also love a physical copy ( what are the chances they'll have it on vinyl? :P ). For now I'm listening to it on Spotify, and it's incredible! So clear and beautiful, definitely worth the unbelievable wait. So grateful to Nathan Furst for putting it together, he truly loves us  :inlove:

  11. I was so upset on learning the official Art Book was incredibly limited and not available to us -- so relieved and overjoyed that we get access to it this way! Absolutely gorgeous, such a beautiful collection of work that I'll certainly treasure as a memento of our little reboot :D

  12. WOW, this is phenomenal! Just like your last animation with Jala, this really captures the atmosphere and emotional weight of the scenes you're depicting -- you really used that music to your advantage! Gave me chills :D

I love your artistic license with the Matoro model, a lot of really interesting and inventive creative choices there, and really well executed too. I really hope you make more of these, because they really bring Bionicle to life again after all these years :) Great work! You've really got a talent for this!

I've been meaning to ask, what software did you use to make this?

  13. I love G2 because it's brought back Bionicle's spirit of fun and adventure. It is such a bright and exciting line, and there's so much to explore and vibrant characters that really bring everything to life. It's full of very interesting and creative design choices and it's brought so many new things to the table. G2 is new, and bold, and very light and approachable. In some ways, it feels more magical than G1 did even in the first few years. I hope many, many children out there are falling in love with it the way we all fell in love with the mysterious island of Mata Nui.

  14. What a neat article! Explains why the final product was as different from the original Ideas submission as it ended up, and the lineup of alternate Dalek models is cool. As I guessed, they went with two different outfits because of the Dimensions level pack and to incorporate two Doctors with one easy head switch. That's quite clever, I think. And of course, the reveal that Sam Johnson is an official Doctor's nephew is just really cute :)

Looking forward to picking this up soon!
