    Yeah.

It was really brief, but apparently the owners had just merged it with Brickshelf all those years ago instead of taking it offline but nobody had realized, and all you had to do was append something to the Brickshelf URL to access all of it.

    I miss Majhost.

Just watched someone (Coestar) play Oxenfree, and I have to say I am very impressed by it. Visually, I get the same impression as I get from FEZ: the base graphics are very simple, but what the game does with and to those graphics make it look very impressive. Story-wise it's a very interesting take on a supernatural plot, and I didn't really know what's going on until the end… and even then not entirely.

This isn't really a review because I didn't play it, but I found it interesting. So whether you play it or watch someone play it, check it out I guess.

Finally got around to seeing it a couple of days ago. And then again yesterday. And then again tonight.

(My Netflix trial runs out today, so had to get a few viewings in while I could.)

I'd looked up the story a while ago because I was kinda eh on whether or not I'd end up seeing it, so I mean it didn't exactly blow my mind in that respect, but even so the plot is intriguing. And pretty much everything about it was great, especially the character animation and voice work.

Only significant complaint would be the big obligatory pop song. I don't think the lyrics are that great.

Would recommend to anyone who hasn't seen it, though, especially if you already have Netflix or are going to get it.

Frontier was the first Digimon series I ever saw, at least in any significant or memorable way. Probably because of that it was my favorite, though Digimon Tamers just barely edged it out years later when I watched it. Frontier still wins for nostalgia though, which is probably the opposite to how the people who started with Adventure and Adventure 02 see it.

I also really like the theme song. To me it almost sounds like something you'd hear in BIONICLE.

That's the instrumental version up there, here it is with words:

Of the sort you'd see on action figures and such. They provide a better range of articulation on, for example, a knee than a single joint would.

I guess this could be that in LEGO form. Obviously it's possible to do something equivalent with two ball pieces or the super-short double socket piece, but thanks to the meshing gears this would only have one degree of freedom so the motion is smooth, rather than having to position the two pivots separately. The tradeoff is it probably isn't as easy to work into a limb and it has no friction. Oh well.

I saw the original one once, and the scene I remember most is the part where they're driving across the bridge discussing the apocalypse and one of the guys is like "this is too much doom and gloom" and turns on the radio to some epic drum machines.

So I was disappointed at the lack of big cheesy drum machines in the new Ghostbusters movie.

Other than that, though, I can't really think of any part of it I disliked.

Also, Holtzmann is the best character.

208 of my recently acquired Creeper head blocks.

(The other side being a Creeper face made of faces on a green backdrop vs. this Creeper face made of green on a backdrop of faces.)

I had entered a board game design into Hasbro's recent game contest, and this is what it'd look like and how it'd move. Didn't make it past submission phase (though they were nice enough to send an email to those not selected so we wouldn't be left in suspense) so I'm sharing it.

Basically the game is based on a planetary gear system where the outer annular gear is the board's base and the sun and planet gears make up most of the playing area, with the connections filled in on the rotating carrier.

Didn't have much of a plot worked out (probably the reason it wasn't chosen) because the contest deadline was the day after graduation (oh btw I graduated from college) and this wasn't a high priority, but basically you're in some kind of magic shifting dungeon and you need to get out by finding the four keys and getting to the exit. The four keys would be on spots in the middle of the planet gears, and the exit would be the center of the board.

The gimmick is that in some circumstances (around 1/10 of the die rolls) players would have the option to rotate the board, the motion of which you can see in the video. This would move the position of the planet gears and cause them to rotate, scrambling the paths. Players would stay on their spots, meaning they'd be moved too. There are four possible board orientations. Also the global orientation of the center technically never changes but it looks cool when it's turning so shut up.

Player motion would be two spaces per turn maximum (chances are about 50/50 one space or two) so there should be plenty of opportunity for "revolution".

As for the video, it's just a SolidWorks motion study of the basic gearing system, so it doesn't stop at any of the playable positions. Basically whenever the arrow on the middle circle is pointing "up" the board is in a playable position. The triangle cutouts were there initially to demonstrate how the system turns, and then the board decals I added later for the contest submission.

Maybe something will come of it some day. But I doubt it!

    Not really.

    Well, sorta.

Recorded a whole series of videos back when I did this (2013!) explaining much of the process and idea behind what I did. I doubt I'll ever put them out there, it's lots of dead air and ums and ahs and redundant or unimportant information. This is probably the one big thing worth sharing, which is the Arduino sketch I wrote to accompany the song "Disco Lights" by Alex S. and PinkiePieSwear from the big Balloon Party collaboration album. I liked it, but after running through it an uncountable number of times to correctly program the Arduino sequencing I got a bit sick of it.

But anyway, here's that sketch played out in as good a way as I could.

After working on this all year, I've reached the primer application stage, which is often the point where it starts to look like the finished product. This is exciting.

    Oh nooooo, I've started to work up a character concept based on that leg. ;__;

Oh well, I guess I'l just be wholly unsatisfied with myself until I actually build it or I get distracted by another idea.

    Ingredients:
    2 eggs
    1 russet potato
    shredded cheese
    2 pretzel buns
    onion

    Yields 2 sandwiches.

Clean and shred the potato. Don't bother peeling it.

Dice the onion. Use about half as much onion as you have potato shreds.

Beat both eggs, either separately or with some way to have them be two equal portions.

Place potato and onion in a hot pan (around medium temperature, depends on stove and burner size) and cook until potato becomes translucent.

Once cooked, remove from pan. Mix shredded cheese in with the potato and onion (amount depends on how much cheese you want).

Place pretzel buns in toaster (cut in half). Let these toast during the next steps, but make sure they don't burn.

Take half of the potato/onion/cheese mixture, form it into a vague patty shape, and place it in the pan, still on the same temperature.

Add a small amount of the beaten egg around the edges of the "patty", scraping it up against the edge with a spatula as it cooks to define the patty shape. Flip it over and do the same. Repeat until one egg is gone.

Cook patty (on both sides) until you are satisfied with how the egg looks.

Repeat cooking process for second half of potato/onion/cheese mix and second egg.

Place patties on toasted pretzel buns. Add more cheese if you feel like it.

    Enjoy.
