  1.

I think Lewa looks pretty solid. The lime-on-gray is probably the weakest point in the set - wish they had used Bright Green instead.

    Thanks for the review!

Do you mean on the torso shell printing? Because he doesn't use lime anywhere else in his build...

Personally, I don't mind the lime—he had the same colors (lime and yellow) on his chest print this year, and it didn't detract from his look.

He uses lime green Bohrok eyes.

Those are trans bright green, I think it's just the lighting makes them look more yellowish than they are.

  2. My DVR screwed up and didn't record When It Rains back when it aired, and for one reason or another I never bothered catching up (busy or something). Guess I was trying to do that thing where I just wait for a bunch of episodes to pile up before watching it all at once, but this time it was just two more episodes so...yeah, I dunno.

But yeah, just caught up on the episodes I missed. Man, I fricking love Peridot. Her development is coming along nicely and the whole thing has been well done. Lots of new information about the gems and the Homeworld, and good development for both her and the Crystal Gems. I hope it continues as beautifully for the rest of the season, and I really really hope she ends up sticking around as part of the cast from now on. Fingers crossed.

Caught up more or less just in time, I suppose, since it's coming back in a bit over a week. Exciting.

Though I never got the Mask of Creation personally (Mask Maker vs. Skull Grinder wasn't sent to me for free like this thing, so)

    What's this about?

This is about LEGO sending out review copies of sets.

But the set has been out for months now, the reviewer could have bought one. If you're a fan and want to support Lego, why wouldn't you?

Not everyone has the money or interest to do so. Or they may have other priorities. It's kind of a weird question you're making.

  4. Yeah...I think this is probably my least favorite set of 2016. Maybe my least favorite set of the reboot so far period? I just don't really like anything about it aside from Kopaka's cool weapons. I hate his mask, his color scheme is a mess, there just isn't anything going on with him that is appealing. Melum is...well, Melum is. He's not particularly bad or anything, just a creature, but a pretty hollow feeling one for whatever reason. I wish at least the "unity piece" was gold to give him a more consistent color scheme. He's so small that the silver does stand out quite a bit and it feels rather out of place. The combined form doesn't do anything for me at all. Just...this set. Meeeeehhhhhh.

  5. Man, seriously? That one big playset comes with ghost Cole and Nya in her new outfit, but the two smallest sets that also come with those characters have a human Cole and Nya in her 2015 duds for no discernable reason. So if you want the new stuff you have to buy the bigger set. That's actually pretty ###### from Lego's part.

I'm not sure if I'm gonna be buyiing any of these. I would have definitely picked up the smallest two if they came with the right minifigures, actually I was planning to pick up the one with the bikes because it was a cheaper option to getting Nya than tthe Bounty before I saw she was in another set with an actually new design, so I'm not into it anymore. I like Jay's dragon for the most part but I don't really like its ear things. The island looks nice, and I'd like to buy it, but eh. It's probably slightly outside my price range and too big for my displays right now, so I'm unsure.

The wave as a lot looks pretty great, but I guess I'll have to see.

  6. Currently I just don't see the need for it. It's not like the main Lego Discussion forum (where most of that discussion currently goes) is overflowing with activity or anything like that.

Yeah, pretty much this. Just because we're losing a subforum with little to no activity doesn't mean we need to get a new one.

  7. They're ugly, ugly masks. I like the Miru and the Hau to an extent, but the rest are all awul. I marked the Kaukau down as the worst, but it could easily have been the Kakama or Pakari.

I know people had their issues with the 2008 versions of these masks, but every time I see someone complain that they don't look like the 2002 versions I can't help but disagree very very strongly. I think the fact that they don't look like that is one of the better things about them, honestly. Because again. These things are pretty hideous.

  8. What is bad is that the "exclusive" mask included is just Ekimu's mask. I can imagine some people may buy the book based on the mask and be very disappointed when it is not actually "exclusive" as advertised...

I can't. We've know it's the protector mask for ages now,, and we've known that activity books never have exclusive stuff for even longer. Simply looking it up would yield that information. There's really no reason for anyone to have expected any more, and thus no reason to be disappointed.

  9. I don't mind either. They look fine, especially the cool gold masks. It would have been great if we also had options for them in a single color (either of them). But I don't mind it.

I will say, when we got the first blurry images of the set I was really hoping the Toa's masks were just blended with clear rather than silver. I think I would have liked that more, but oh well.

  10. I honestly do not like this set. I don't like the weird shoulder armor (the skeleton shell looks too flat to really do anything there). I don't like how the gap between the chest and the arms with the glatorian neck looks. I don't like the huge mechanical off-color feet. Besides the fact that they share some colors and a similar mask, I really can't see much continuity between this and the 2015 version. This one is just too lanky (and frankly I feel he could use some solid purple). Seeing better pictures of it makes me like the mask more, but that's about it. This definitely isn't a set I'm going to be getting. In any case, very nice and thorough review, though I do wish we had some mid-build pictures in the text review, or at least one shot of the set built without the armor shells.

  11. Edit: I just have to add this picture here, what in darn blazes is lego thinking with randomly creating yellow 3 length pins? I knew light gray was a good strategy in 2003-2004 and onwards but now a prototype variety of yellow pins being used for pins in leg building sticking out like bruises!

I dont like their strategy one bit, these pins look like something mega blocks would do.

Far as I can tell only Lewa and his creature (moskitox? probably moskitox.) have those. Tahu and Kopaka definitely has gray ones, and I don't see any yellow anywhere else. It's certainly random, but I don't think it looks out of place on the Jungle sets.

  12. I have...mixed opinions of these. Most of the masks are really cool, but some of the builds leave me wondering. With Pohatu as the image loaded I went from "wow that mask looks really cool" to "wait what the ###### is with those arms." Really just...mixed opinions. Lewa is cool but I miss the orange. Gali is one of the better ones, she has a nice color scheme and an awesome weapon. Gold mask looks pretty terrible on her though. Pohatu's mask is great, and the color scheme is decent, but man does he really just not look that good. There's some nice things going on with Onua, but I don't like his mask or his feet or his shoulders or...eh, he's ok. Weapon is cool. Kopaka is a load of eh. Tahu I thought would be my favorite and...yeah, I guess so. The fact that he has so little solid red is a definite flaw (though I'm sure the render only makes it look worse) and he has way too many different kinds or armor, but I love his colors. Red and blue are an underappreciated combo, and it looks great on him. Could use some on his arms though...

I don't care about any of the creatures, the same head thing kills it for me. I guess Akida is cool though.

Umarak has a cool head and stuff, but the legs are a mess and I just can't seem to get excited about him. Not super big on the Mask of Control either.

All in all, not terribly excited about these, and I doubt I'm gonna be buying a lot. I'm more than satisfied with the 2015 Toa, so none of these really grab my attention too much. I'll probably be getting Tahu, maybe Gali, and the maybe-est maybes of all for Pohatu. But that's it.

The technic colors here are weird, though, as an aside. Lewa indeed has yellow 3m axles, but from what I can tell that's exclusive to him (Tahu has gray, for sure). And it sure looks like Gali has black 2m axles. Kind of odd.

Oh yeah, and I'm not a fan of the fact that we seem to have downgraded to having just two eye colors. That's not good.

  13. Ok so, update on my ongoing anime (and other) activity...

Started Azumanga Daioh, little more than halfway through. Pretty good. Azumanga Daioh the manga was always fun, and the anime is little different. Love Osaka a lot in this (Tomo is no less annoying, fittingly enough, I guess).

Finished Digimon Frontier. Last arc was surprisingly good, and the last handful of episodes just really nice in general. Not a bad series all in all, but not amazing.

I finished reading Tokyo Ghoul, it was pretty good. Man, was Root A just a chunk of terrible. They took so much random stuff from the manga devoid of context and just...botched it all up. It deserved so much better. It was really pretty good. And it actually made some sense as opposed to not.

Finished the first season of Hidamari Sketch (pretty good) and now I'm watching x 365. It's also pretty good. Same old good, laid back humor.

Also started watching Futari wa Precure. Despite a bit of a mixed start, by episode 11, with more focus on the two of them instead of just Nagisa, it's shaping up to be pretty decent. Mepple's still a little jerk though.

And lastly I watched School-Live! In short, it was awesome. Loved this series. Delusions and sadness, plenty of twists, what more could one possibly want. Good frigging stuff.

Anyway, I got volume 5 of Index yesterday. It mostly just reminds me that I have yet to find the time to read volume 4, so I should...do that. I also got the first volume of Accelerator, so that should be interesting. Got a couple of other volumes of manga but I just haven't had time to check any of it out yet. Index should probably come first...

  14. My least favorite thing about the movies is that they always hijacked the important parts out of any given year, which meant everything else in the year both didn't really matter and often left an incomplete picture of everything that happened (and in the worst cases the stuff in the movie didn't really fit with what came before it). The comics from movie years are the worst.
